On Star Trek:

Love TNG, it's my favorite TV show of all time, but some episodes have flaws.
But I'd also rank the other series like: DS9, Voyager, TOS. And I still enjoy some episodes of TOS a LOT. Like that Harry Mudd one with the androids is amazing. That's better than some TNG episodes.

Never got around to really watching much Enterprise but it doesn't seem terrible.

Picard is literally a crime against humanity, but I'm thinking jail time would be sufficient punishment, no need for hangings.

I feel like this should say "Use the Force Gary" for some reason.

Also PS about the Super Sentai stuff.

I think this was the main one that I would watch

And I think this was the last version that I would watch before I stopped watching the series

Also I think that there was a series that Japan didn't get. I can't remember the game but this one country had it specifically made for them or something.

Also had I kept watching the series I would have eventually gotten to see this. I like the OP

I can't remember if this is a double post so sorry about that. I just don't recall posting this before and it's still saved in my text box

Also speaking of Star Trek, isn't one of Gabe's 3 favorite games an OG Star Trek game? And it's one of the reasons he got into programming to begin with?

Are they still using footage from Super Sentai in Power Rangers? I only watched the original series back in the old days. The newer iterations were never broadcast here

Shogun 2.

But I may be biased because it is the last Total War I liked. Don't get me wrong, the Warhammer games are great, but I didn't get the urge to play dozens of hours in it.

After 100h I finally beat Pathfinder Kingmaker...

I was so desperate to get through the last few zones I changed the difficulty to the lowest level and rushed the main story. Still took 4h to get through them. So much filler and trash mob fights...:weary-face:

It's the most wonderful time OF THE WEEEEEEEK :cat-heart-blob:

It's back, it's here, it's the weekly top sellers list and to my surprise..... it hasn't changed that much.

Fall Guys is still the king with 2 places of the list, game is really popular and trend doesn't seem to be changing soon-ish.

HZD keeps the second place like last week, it's good news because that means the game has been selling well but also got a lot of refund petitions so, while the engagement has been good, the retention hasn't been, expected due to the mixed port, let's hope that changes soon.

Risk of Rain 2 is back as early access is over and 1.0 is out, game was announced to sold over 3 Million copies on Steam, so yeah, I think we can safely say it's a success story.

MS keeps doing good banking with 2 games on the top 10

GTA V and BF V returned to the top 10 this week, expected given the sales

Avengers went in, expected given the beta.

Among Us is a very interesting one and that's why I wanted to talk about it in last place,

Released in Nov 2018, the game got a popularity push in the last week as a group of streamers played co-op to this title, not only it made into a very good position of this top 10 but also peaked a new record in the CCU Nº with almost 33k

Never underestimate the power of streamers/influencers. I did many times and shame on me because of it. It's amazing news to be honest. A game from 2018 having a second youth if that were not enough and just because of streamers.

For those that have been paying attention in Steam did you notice the game in any place other than the top sellers list?

Wasn't that leaked already?

I think that they are. Or at least I am not sure if they are still doing it in the last 5 years or so, but they have at least been using the same footage I think for 20+ years now. I guess it just makes it cheaper to make the show that way.

I miss the old German silly football manager games like "Anstoss" or "Kurt"
Late reaction...

You may be delighted to hear that there are currently two "Anstoss" adjacent projects in the works.
One with the Anstoss license (german): Anstoss 2022
And one from the original creator Gerald Köhler (german): "Anstoß"-Vater Gerald Köhler über die legendäre Fußballmanager-Reihe und sein neues Projekt - derStandard.de

For now I will temper my expectations, but maybe we will be lucky and at least one of the two games will be a good game.

Building my VN degenerate library on Steam today. I imported all of them in physical copies from Japan and these only account for 1/3 of my collection

While having a physical library really feels good, some of them have DRM like requiring internet authentication or inputting serial code. Luckily, both only need to be done once. Now I have added them onto steam, I can access them with the click of a button. Most importantly. seeing that they are placed side-by-side with vertical banners makes me happy. Here is the list of what they are:

First Row
  • Ayakashibito
  • Chou Dengeki Stryker (Available on Steam)
  • Kikouyoku Senki Tenkuu no Yumina
  • Kikouyoku Senki Tenkuu no Yumina FD -ForeverDreams-
  • PriministAr
  • Schwarzesmarken: Junkyousha-tachi

Second Row
  • Schwarzesmarken: Kouketsu no Monshou
  • Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo (KS funded)
  • Te to Te Try On!
  • Tenmom Dokei no Aria
  • Tokyo NECRO
  • Yoake Mae yori Ruri Iro na -Brighter than Dawning Blue-

The only one I have completed is Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo, and that is eight years ago! Utterly fantastic, I still remember the main twists and tons of scenes after all these years. You people really need to play it when it hits Steam.

Now, I should be tackling them one-by-one in near future. Maybe interchanging from slice of life to battle story to avoid burnout. Tenmom Dokei no Aria is a low-priced title so I may start with it first.

Oooo im looking forward to a new GPU. Apparently Nvidia will be announcing in the next few weeks...

Im not looking forward to having to drain down my water loop. I put a waterblock on my current card which i dont think ill bother doing again, i dont overclock, just did it for noise reduction.

Do any of you bother with water for your builds if you dont overclock?

I stopped bothering with water 4 PCs ago or so. It's certainly been a while.
If my GPU is too loud in summer in some game I reduce the power limit by a few % (and live with the even fewer % performance reduction that entails).
Boring approach, I know, my younger self would be appalled ;)

Since I use it for work and play, water cooling just add unnecessary risk, hassle and maintenance. I just slap on the biggest noctua cooler that fits my case and be done with it. In other words, I'm just too poor to get a custom water loop setup.

Yeah i dont think ill bother with water in the future. It was fun (bit stressful) putting a water loop together, the first one i did i forgot to put a drain point in so draining it down at my next upgrade was a real challenge. Im on my 2nd loop and have both cpu and gpu cooled. Its nice and quiet and gives me peace of mind (my flat gets really hot) but im thinking some good fans will probably be fine.

Does it actually work for noise reduction? My interpretation was that since you usually roof mount the radiator fans, it ends up effectively noisier but cooler than a closed system with less airflow. I bet a company could make huge noise gains by having a separate muffled radiator component.

For me, I'm far too worried about the potential point of failure in a leak or worrying about pump failures and all that to even buy an AIO.

I've seen people complaining that Fall Guys already bored them.

Like, chill out a bit? Play other games? It's barely been two weeks since release and people are already demanding more content. No wonder why people get crunched to death. The same thing happened to Animal Crossing, people put a bajillion hours in the first month and now they're critizicing the game lmao

I think i had some crappy fans so they were pretty loud. The water loop i have is really quiet but yeah i think if i just get some better fans it would probably do the job.

Never had any issue with leaks. Once i did the loop i havent fiddled with it for about 2 years.

There is no reason for a watercooled system to be louder (unless the pump is noisy) and you have more options to get it quiet since you can expand your cooling system. Even under heavy load these overkill looking systems people like to show off can get away with running fans at low rpm and you don't hear a thing (or coil whine).

That said, at stock speeds (or bigger coolers for medium range components) you can get the same with air cooling and it's just easier.

I know leaks are rare, but I have incredibly poor hardware luck. I've managed to get multiple devices / components (in my lifetime) with 1 in a billion chance defects. Absolutely unheard of stuff.

Like for me I wouldn't get a normal leak, I'd get a water molecule in my RAM which would disable a security policy and install a backdoor in my PC.

Sorry for bringing this up again. So with the Fortnite thing they tried to mention 1984, a world where the government (Big Brother is watching you and if you speak out of place they will get rid of you). That sort of a thing does exist but ya I don't see how Apple has anything to do with that other than spying on people??? I mean they don't just ban people and send them to jail. Even when the government asks Apple to unlock phone so that they can use them as evidence in court, Apple refused for a while (I don't know why their current stand on the issue is however.

I guess the cult like status that Apple has been known for, for a number of years sort of counts? People doing stuff without questioning or learning more about stuff (ignorance is bliss).

The Soviet Union and China lived through some of the 1984 stuff didn't they?

But at least in the US more or less aren't we living something closer to Brave New World + Cyberpunk stuff (I won't mention Blade Runner since I don't see how Replicants have anything to do with modern day times) where it's big corporations that run the countries and dictate what people should think? I don't really understand Cyberpunk that much other than it's a dystopian society where big money rules the land and not so much the government and the will of the people and all of that.

By the way what do all of you do on hot days to relieve heat? I don't have AC in my house and thought to look into possible options like an electronic fan or something.

When I’m undecided I usually just start one of the choices to see if I’m in the mood for that game, if I am I stick with it, otherwise after 30 min - 1h of playing around I try the next one

PC-tan In the UK we just moan about the heat for the two weeks a year where it's unbearable. :sweaty-blob:
Over the last few years tt's becoming more popular for people to get portable AC/Humidifier units they can wheel out and put wherever they need it tho.

The original background for a lot of Cyberpunk (William Gibson, Cyberpunk, Shadowrun, Jack Womak for example) was that corporations are so big and powerful that they are effectively operating as nation states. They wage proxy wars against each other, families all work for the same Corporation, they transcend national borders and laws, everything is a battle against other corporations for resources and influence. The term Zaibatsu was co-opted and expanded for these entities. Max Headroom tv series shows another example of this but with TV Corporations holding the power through aggressive and addictive advertising and choosing what topics and views to cover or ideologies to build tv shows around to sway public opinion.

As for the 1984 parallels for society i think it's just the one most people are aware of but to me it's more a mix of 1984 with monitoring and pushed ideologies and Brave New World where the populace are kept distracted by shows and events so they don't notice or keep interest in what is going on. The classic "Bread and Circuses". You won't go out and protest injustice if your favourite show or event is on and you might miss it. That's my broad and simple take on it.

Currently playing Call of Cthulhu and there's some animation jank, it looks amazing at times but dreadful at others, there's a couple of segments that are annoying for 5 minutes (Shambler) but nothing that outstays it's welcome and the RPG mechanics are simplified but interesting offering changes to the ways you can achieve things. I picked it up for about £8 so i'm quite happy with it so far.

I'm totally not late, but out of all scifi shows I've watched I enjoyed Farscape and Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis probably the most. Plus Firefly.
Just the right balance of humor and space shit to my tastes. I should re-watch Farscape one of these days, it's been too long.

Also here's a short TNG video I cut a long time ago.

Also, I never use the Favorites category in Steam.

Does conglomerate = zaibatsu?

I first learned of that word from Killing Bites
Yup, Cyberpunk takes it to an extreme tho because Dystopia.
I'd say that Jack Womack's "DryCo" series of books are not exactly Cyber as such but revolve around dystopian social and economic commentary of mega-corps over nations people and culture. He has a tricksy style of writing at first but they're great books. Hmm, with Cyberpunk 2077 coming soon there should probably be a Post Meta Cyberpunk and similar things thread. I could certainly do with rereading a lot of my old books again for sure.
