With Steam Deck I'm guessing that part of the delay may be software stuff?

So there are 3 different scenarios.

Scenario 1: Valve noticed that there would not be a lot of Steam Decks ready (let's say that they only had 500 units that they were able to produce and at least 3k Is what they had planned to release as the first way (I think there are what 3 regions? So the first wave would be less than 10k units? It's possible that part of the delay was that that they found an issue late into the game and wanted to swap out a part or something. So of the Steam Decks that they have now they plan to send those to devs. Something else about the lack of availability would also be RMA stuff for when stuff gets broken on the first batch of models.

Scenario 2: there still is a ways to go before they can get a good software support on the system. Initial testing were good but as they have been contacting devs about what games do and do not meet the certified criteria, this may actually be the reason and also the main reason why we are seeing "UPDATES" in certain games (some of it is on the Steam side but you still have devs that are doing stuff to support the Steam Deck).

Scenario 3 is sort of a mix of both 1 and 2 where they just want to send as many Steam Decks as they can to devs, but if that's the case what's the real difference between a mass production Deck and a Dev Kit one? Are they converting some of the mass production ones into devs kit ones after all? We have already mentioned how big name devs have gotten a Steam Deck and it's even possible that more and more of them have decided to support the device (which takes time).

In a nutshell it would look a lot better if when you looked at your Steam library on the Steam Deck and seeing a bunch of green check marks. And fixing stuff isn't something that is just done overnight and maybe even 2 months is not enough time to get the game patched to support Steam Input and also have UI options that make it easy to read on the Steam Deck.
I assume it's primarily about delays in production being so bad that it would only be a paper launch if they stuck to the December date, so to be more transparent they pushed things back.

Valve is pretty open about these things as opposed to most other companies, and if the felt the software wasn't ready, they'd just outright say it.

Yup, they can't get the components to their factories in time to meet the planned shipping date so they've had to move the dates.
The global supply chain is a mess at the moment all the way up and down the chain. Factories can't get materials required to make the components so they can't get them out to manufacturers who then can't get shipping. Where components are available spare capacity has been bought by heavy industry like aviation, mobile and auto sectors.

One of the projects i have backed on kickstarter said that if they had not started production 6 months before they launched the kickstarter then they would have been delayed by a year and showed notices from their suppliers showing that one component has a 48 week lead time and another component has a 56 week lead time. Shit's fucked.

Of course the extra time is handy for Valve to keep working on the software but i don't think that has anything to do with the delay.

I wonder if this WinStore update would let you add Win 10 games to Steam, and maybe launch them on Deck ?

Wow, if MS is really finally ditching the Windows Store, that's probably going to be a big boost for Gamepass PC numbers.

So many questions. Are they going to ditch the Microsoft Store even as the place to buy the games, or have some integration? Do the games available now need to be updated? And can games now be updated without going through certification?

Still, huge progress. But I think there is a somewhat decent chance that will end with some really stupid solution like they do with the "EA Desktop" integration.

If the games files truly are out of their encrypted folders, then I don't see why not. For the Deck you would probably still need some third-party utility to download them like there is for EGS, but at least now it is possible to make one.

That is, assuming the somewhat vague article is correct and Microsoft actually does not screw everything up, and those are big assumptions.

Some quick observations about Marvel Avengers.
I'm more and more convinced that the exclusive deal obliterated word of mouth and goodwill about this game. Not that it's that good really, but it's not the trash fire some people make it out to be. It's, yeah, more or less 'beat them all Destiny' (huge lack of mission diversity in goal and environments, though).
Mediocre as it is, I think as a comic buff they have found my kryptonite. Playing super heroes in a modern 3d engine. This is not great, this is repetitive, and I... can't stop playing, ffs. I am Captain America and these AIM scientists need a lesson :coffee-blob:

So, anyone know if 2042 is any good? Already decided to pass on CoD given that Halo is out in a month.

But in regards to the more large-scale FPS, does it look like I'm better just sticking with Hell Let Loose and Squad this year too?

that would require a lot of work to unpack and decrypt all of them games from UWP/Appx containers ..... on one hand i wold love it (as it would be a way to save FH3 and few others) on other hand i doubt they will do that

GTA3 drops to 35FPS on PS5, people: it's not that bad, stop being outraged!

It's MS, they will find a way to f-up something.
Where's the doubt sticker when I need it?
:doubtblob:
There it is.
G-Darius was a personal favorite during the PS1 days.
Oh shit G-Darius!! I always wanted to try that!

But I mean when was the last time people played some of those GTA's? They weren't like amazing anyway to go back to after you got used to 4/5
I replayed Vice City and San Andreas during lockdown last year :p

It did. The idiots waited the week of release to announce it and caused a ton of outrage.

Oh wow, Microsoft finally doing the actual bare minimum?

They'll find a way to cock it up.

How great: I just tested positive for Covid-19, despite the insane amount of precautions I always had. :confounded-face:
That Johnson & Johnson vaccine sure is great. Take a group of 10 people who work every day. Two were vaccinated with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, myself included, which is a single take (sadly, we didn''t have a choice in vaccines). The others took better options, in two takes.
Guess what? The people who took the Johnson & Johnson vaccine are both infected, while the others are negative, and fine.

Anyway, on a completely random note, I was rather pissed and this video came up and brought me to tears, so I have to share it.
A great showcase of all the cutting edge stuff Nintendo does with its hardware. :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Dunno if you keep up with Vtubers, but Shishiro Botan played the BETA for 2042 and liked it so much she kept playing after Streams to the point she apologized on Twitter over it.

It looked insanely fun the whole time.

Going by the Microsoft video, we will "soon" have the option to choose the folder to install games, but then they add the qualifier that "for many games of Xbox games pass, you will have to your game files". Not all, but "many".

So... I'm guessing the end result may be that you get to choose another folder to have completed locked files that you have no access to. Exciting! :p

I'm sorry for that :( on the bright side, J&J does still provide protection for further complications so it should be easier to get through it. Best wishes :)

Also, if I were the Labo piano designer I'd be delighted that John Carpenter called my invention 'shit'.

I thought for sure that Forspoken was EGS exclusive but then i thought, havnt it only been Nomura games from Square enix that have been timed exclusive on EGS so far? I gotta be missing one or some non nomura game from Square enix that probably was exclusive, it is easy for those games to disappear.
