Pentiment I won't even entertain. If this is the best obsidian can do then let's just hold the funeral for the company now.
You should really stop chasing AAA nonsense like Final Fantasy and open yourself up to interesting, smaller titles more. (I wanted to write "indie" there, but not really applicable when Obsidian is a Microsoft first party).

And while I agree that Durance is a highlight, I loved many of its other characters, like Aloth and Eder.

Tyranny neglected once again... :crying-face:
I mean, I kinda quit that one. I think the setting of "evil won" just isn't super interesting to me personally. I believe coming from PoE (I had finished PoE2 a bit earlier, I think), it also just felt overall a lot less refined.

I told myself I wouldn't buy EA for Avowed, but I had a shitty, stressful week and I have Monday off and I want to play it now.

I love Eder. He is up there with Garrus as best-bro in videogames.

There is nothing interesting about pentiment or I would have played it. I didn't become an obsidian fan to play things like grounded or pentiment. Avowed is closer to what I expect from them but next time they have to make it good instead lol.

I tried the Elden Ring Network Test. I only played the original game so far.

I thought the new game was cool. Definitely very different than other Fromsoft games.

I hope you all get to try it at some point

Finished Daybreak 2 Prologue, and really liking the gimmick for this one. Falcom basically turned it into something like 999, complete with timeline UI to jump around when you hit a "dead end".
And finally Falcom made this one into a proper JRPG where you can fish. Still hard to believe they actually shipped a Trails game without this critical feature. Smh

Wait, what, you couldn't fish in Daybreak 1?
What the everloving fuck?!

I'm replaying RTCW on PC and also in VR on Quest 3 and it's still such a good game (actually it's not that long ago I replayed it on PC again but it's still fun). Someone on the VR discord just informed me there's more single player content I never knew about even though I had searched for it a bit cos I love the game's style and mechanics and felt like it was such a shame there was never more of it.. Anyway it's this, it even got an update be4 the end of the year.

They utilize Enemy Territory maps and other content to make a new campaign with survival and zombie modes on top. It looks well made, I will definitely play.

The original was unparalleled back in the day, you'd think it'd be a half baked jack of all trades with all they did with it but no, every aspect was so well done, the military bits would rival any MOH or COD, there was even stealth potential (you could lean!) and the levels had varied objectives and mechanics like the alarm systems while the supernatural stuff in the latter half took it to Doom and Quake territory. Enemy Territory then took the class based PVP crown on top.
Since the above apparently requires RealRTCW I delved into that as well for the first time (the game was fun to replay vanilla so I didn't care) and it improves the game in tangible yet fitting and tasteful ways. The optional hub visit inbetween campaign chapters (not after every level) is quite cool. It just got a new update:

Not sure how reliable this is, but Marc Laidlaw said that Viktor Antonov (art director behind Half-Life 2 and Dishonored) died:

Viktor was actually involved in a lot of games beyond Half-Life and Dishonored. He worked on Wolfenstein: The New Order, Kingpink, Redneck Rampage, etc.

Also, he was co-leading a new studio that was working on a game since 2022:

I remember seeing him in the HL2 documentary just a few months back. 53 is way too early. Rest in peace.

Daybreak 1 was their first game on their new in-house engine.
You can really tell that they had to cut a lot of non-essentials to get it out in time (which are now being reintroduced over the subsequent games).

It's particularly obvious when you go directly from Reverie (the last game of a massive series on more or less the same tech stack, with an absolutely huge amount of side content, minigames, etc.) to Daybreak 1.

I was able to finish 1 run of the Elden Ring Rouge like game

I can definitely see it being fun for some.

The difference this time is that we were able to actually get to the end and were able to beat the final boss for the night.

There's crimes against design and there's crimes against design.

I bought Civilization VII yesterday and played 3 hours of it before going to bed. It's good, but a little buggy. As I went into the next age, the game throw me back into the main menu and gave me an error plus my game was not saved.

Connor Drake, Operation: Harsh Doorstop's lead developer, who goes by the online monicker BlueDrake42, posted a "warning" on X last week (via GamesRadar) to "every content creator", in light of an imminent update to his game. "If you have taken over $10,000 USD in payments from studios we compete with in the last 12 months and you don't disclose that in any 'review', you create about our game, then you and I will have legal problems."

Drake says he's "tired" of watching such content creators "get paid off to do hit pieces on games that don't fork out cash for you", and says they aren't "independent journalists" but "a paid contractor for our competitor".

This person sounds like a fucking asshole.

The time loop mechanic is nothing new, but we're so starved for a shake-up, we eat it all up and asked for more. :flare_lmao:

But seriously, it's one of the best openers since Zero. I was afraid they'll come back to in medias res opener again.

I'll play daybreak games after kai and whatever is its sequel are out in english, meaning I'll play daybreak after a longass time!

Would make for a fun legal case if they could actually prove devs are paying money to creators to do hit pieces lol.

But I don't think it is possible to prove something unless creators themselves reveal contracts.

But really...big enough content creators don't need money to do hit pieces because the hit pieces themselves bring in views and money. This is just the vulture hot take business that modern day streaming is. Unfortunately.. its both entertaining and ugly.

There's a lot of attention on avowed right now as being a completely sauceless game but I've been playing a rpg on the other side of the genre lately that fits this definition perfectly...visions of mana.

I've played countless jrpgs over my life and this is certainly going to be one of them. There's nothing overly terrible about it (well, the dialogue is flirting with that line) but it does absolutely nothing noteworthy or memorable at all. This is the type of game where in a few years you completely forget it existed let alone that you played it.

This is a cross-post from the Backlog Blitz thread so I can help spread the word/remind people of Dungeons of Hinterberg!

Finished Dungeons of Hinterberg. I played it on Tough Mode and completed all the side content and achievements. Had I played this game last year, it would’ve most likely made it to my top games list.

I enjoyed the game from start to finish, and it’s overall a very pleasant experience, albeit a bit simple when it comes to puzzles. The dungeon puzzles are on the easier side, and the game never gets too complex with its puzzle design. However, each dungeon is unique and plays out differently. I also really like how the two sets of magical powers (which are used for puzzles and environmental problem-solving) are unique to each of the four worlds, which keeps the experience fresh. The art style is excellent, and the music largely fits the theme it’s going for, with some standout tracks.

Of course, there’s a bit more to the game than just the dungeons, and that’s where the lite-Persona-esque elements come into play. You basically have a relationship system where ranking up with each of the 16 individuals unlocks all kinds of perks that enhance Luisa’s combat prowess and the world around you. The writing is actually pretty decent, too!

If you're looking for a relaxing and pleasant game to play, I highly recommend this one.

Been MIA from here from a while as I've focused more on Switch and PS5 but my Steam Deck is getting more love these days :)

Also, I'm very lttp on this but I'm playing Death Stranding DC (PS5) right now and for a game that people seem to either love or hate I am ironically rather mixed on as I see why people like this game but also definitely why people hate it.
I'm about 8hrs in and still on Chapter 2 and I'm aware people say to wait until Chapter 3 so I'm reserving full judgment until then.

But right now if I had to give it a grade I'd say 7/10?
The intrigue of the story and the world-building is what's carrying me mostly right now, but that's kinda concerning in of itself as many wouldn't say that's one of the game's strengths, so I feel like I'm slightly waiting for the other shoe to drop in that regard.
The traversal stuff is the meat and potatoes of the game obviously and it's fine I don’t honestly have much to say about it (at least I went in knowing that unlike many seemed to on launch) but I can already see this getting repetitive or played out long before the end, that's my fear. Let's just see what Chapter 3 brings.
Besides that the game is surprisingly menu heavy and confusingly so too.

PS: Still can't help but be curious what DS2 will bring though, knowing Kojima it'll be something completely different again and not like DS1.

Based on all the trailers it looks to be a big expansion on more of the same.

Kojima needs to improve the boss fights for sure tho. The first got too repetitive and bullet spongy. He needs to dig into the creativity from the MGS series but seeing how DS isn't about action heroes he is probably stuck in that world.

Even if he can't deliver something new we still get Delta this year. And MGS3 still to this day has the best lineup of boss fights in any game ever. imo.

Based on that insane 10 minute trailer a year ago it looks like more diverse environments as well as weather situations like landslides and flash floods.

Story's not going to make a damn bit of sense but they got me on board with troy baker cosplaying as the crow with a lightning bolt shooting guitar.
