Ghost Recon Breakpoint on Xbox One, PS4, PC | Ubisoft (US)
https://store.ubi.com/us/tom-clancys-ghost-recon-breakpoint/5cc81f5f6b54a4cd3c0e9cff.html

Publisher Ubisoft and developer Ubisoft Paris have announced Ghost Recon: Breakpoint for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC . It will launch on October 4

World and Story

Welcome to Auroa

Somewhere in the South Pacific lies the remote Auroa Archipelago, a vast land of diverse biomes that range from lush rainforests to snowy peaks. Now, it’s home to Skell Technology, an enigmatic technology giant. Initially interested in a remote testing site for its autonomous drones, the Silicon Valley company eventually turned Auroa into its “World 2.0,” a high-tech, high-security utopia of sustainable eco-cities and robotics research.

Seamless Open-World Co-Op

Explore a diverse and mysterious open world ranging from barren deserts and dramatic fjords to futurist cities and arctic peaks. Featuring 11 unique biomes and home to Skell Technologies this remote Archipelago will challenge the Ghosts like never before. Use the environment to you advantage as you disappear into a jungle canopy to evade your foes or jump into a vehicle and charge into battle by air, land and sea. A seamless co-op experience means your squadmates can jump in and out at any time.

Fight Your Brothers In Arms Turned Rogue

Face your deadliest enemy yet, The Wolves, former Ghosts who have betrayed their country. Led by the charismatic Colonel Cole D. Walker they have taken control of Auroa for an unknown purpose. Now in control of Auroa’s powerful drone technology The Wolves and their allies will hunt you mercilessly across Auroa.

Game Details

Military Survival

Experience life as a Ghost, an elite US Special Operations soldier, as you fight back from behind enemy lines on the toughest mission of your career.

  • Injury System – Now when your Ghost takes damage they may also become injured. These injuries will slow you down and reduce your combat effectiveness requiring additional time and resources to heal your Ghost back up to peak fighting condition.
  • Terrain and Stamina – Traversing the world of Auroa will push your Ghost to their limits. Steep slopes will make you slip and fall, traversing water will slow you down, and snow will plow in your wake. Properly managing your stamina will be essential to surviving and fighting back.
  • The Bivouac – Trapped behind enemy lines The Bivouac is a temporary camp where you and your fellow Ghosts will rest and prepare for the next mission. Clean your weapons, change classes, craft items, upgrade gear, and more then select desired time of day and weather before venturing back out.
  • Buddy Carry – Leave no man behind. When an ally is down and needs help instead of giving medical attention in the middle of a firefight you can quickly sling them over your shoulder and move to safety to get them back on their feet.
Stealth

Use all your training and skills to infiltrate or evade your enemies as they hunt you without mercy.

  • Prone Blending – As a Ghost you can disappear into your environment making you nearly invisible to your enemies. Use this feature to setup an ambush or avoid detection when cover is not available.
  • Advanced Enemy AI – The Wolves and their allies are experienced elite soldiers and will communicate amongst themselves to hunt you down if detected. With a wide variety of AI archetypes and behaviors no two encounters will be the same.
  • Adaptive Cover – An innovative cover system will automatically adapt your Ghost’s body position to match available cover and execute advanced tactics such as leaning to aim around corners.
Customize Your Ghost

Create a unique Ghost to look and play your way. With multiple classes and deep systems featuring thousands of options for both functional and cosmetic customization no two Ghosts will look and play the same. Weapons, gear, and equipment are craftable, customizable, and upgradeable using items and resources you’ll find across Auroa.

Game Modes and Progression

A Full Featured Game

The world of Auroa can be explored either solo or along side friends with Ghost Recon’s best in class seamless jump in jump out co-op. There are no restrictions on when teammates can join you and all progression is maintained across the squad.

Take on the Wolves in the main story or explore Auroa together to complete the many diverse side activities the open world has to offer.

Ghost Recon: Breakpoint will also feature competitive PvP multiplayer where your squad can test their skill against other Ghosts in short high-action game modes.

Common Progression

In Ghost Recon: Breakpoint your unique Ghost will be your persistent character across all game modes and activities. Whether you are playing in solo, co-op, or multiplayer everything you accomplish or earn will contribute to your character’s progression. All functional and cosmetic customization carries over allowing you to play your way.

Raids, Endgame, and Post-Launch

Day one is only the beginning for Ghost Recon: Breakpoint. Every four months new seasonal post-launch content will be added to the game including new story content, special events, new weapons, gear, and equipment, new challenging game modes and missions, and for the first time ever in the Ghost Recon franchise – Raids.

Blacklist 2 come ooooon.

Or a real Ghost Recon like the old FPS games.

Or a Rainbow Six with a tactical action campaign to go through.

Or anything they probably aren't going to make ever again these days that I like :(

If it's multiplayer, I'm not interested. If it's not, I still have 500 other Tom Clancy games on Steam that I need to beat before getting to this new one, but at least it has a chance to catch my interest.

The game looks pretty good. One of my problems with Wildlands was how abuseable the AI was. How weightless combat encounters felt because you could just revive the AI, or have the AI revive you. I'm not expecting a return to classic Rainbow Six/Ghost Recon gameplay or anything, but this looks like a much harder edged game that takes criticisms of its predecessor to heart. They seem to have massively improved stealth.

It's a fantastic looking game, too.

I've got 80+ hours so far in Wildlands the Campaign with my buddy doing Co-Op that's with dicking around and doing it on the hardest difficulty and not having bought any of the extra content so we're both pretty interested in the newly announced game as it looks basically like a 2.0 version of the game.
As long as it just adds to it and doesn't take away anything it will be cool

Looks okay, I just wish Ubi would start making more than Tom Clancy games.
Imagine if this was Terminator: Breakpoint instead. Similar gameplay, but you are in the early days of the great war, behind enemy lines. You are still being hunted, by Skynet and early Terminators.

Oh yeah. I am very much enjoying Division 2 - it's a very well crafted game but the setting is boring. I know Tom Clancy's stuff is in the "near future" but damn I would enjoy a full-on scifi version of this game. Just what... Anthem should be :-(

Games like The Division and Ghost Recon Wildlands have essentially nothing to do with Tom Clancy. If Ubisoft were able, they'd brand everything from Rayman to Far Cry with the Tom Clancy name because it has brand recognition and brand recognition is king.

I watched the gameplay. I assumed it'd be like Wildlands and I was right. Wildlands was a 5 hour game and done. Grabbed that for like $15 which was $5 too much. This is just another big open world gun shoot squad game.

Zzzzzzzzzzz....

Learned my lesson though with Ubisoft games.

I'd argue it's quite different to Wildlands in a few important ways. They've gotten rid of AI squadmates, for example. Where Wildlands was a squad shooter, Breakpoint has a more isolationist bent. Sure, it has drop-in co-op with a paper-thin narrative justification, but the core narrative focus of Breakpoint seems to be of surviving in hostile territory after every other member of your squad is killed. Stealth seems to be quite radically overhauled. The health system seems rather different since you now have to manage injuries. (Also hunger, thirst, etc.) Wildlands, at least vanilla Wildlands, was an extremely run-and-gun experience. This seems to be significantly more methodical and making some vague overtures towards classic games in the series. If you get shot, you're not gonna get revived by the AI. You're going to die.

Two immediate question:
  1. Didn't R6: Lone Wolf already do this, and is forever remembered as the black sheep of the series?
  2. WHY IS THIS A EVEN GHOST RECON GAME?
Booo. There's zero need for this game to be always online (other than Ubi being dickheads).
Especially since this is a single-player game.

because ubi is going to keep milking Clancy's corpse for as long as humanly possible ... they're gonna suck every single cent worth of branding from it until there's nothing left
Then why not make it a spin-off franchise? "Ubisoft now presenting a new entry into the Tom Clancy series, The Lone Wolf: Breakpoint. This second entry in the spin-off series focusses on lone soldiers sent on covert missions that are too complciated for units, such as the Ghosts, to get involved in." Or, they could have it properly retain the Ghost Recon name by keeping the squads, but reintroduce perma-death into the series. That once a character dies, they're gone forever. And, the player could be a part of it as well that when the player dies, they have to restart as a new Ghost. And, there is a very limited pool of Ghosts that you can call on (About 10-20 characters, at most).

they probably want to sell people cosmetic shit ... so permadeath wouldn't work because they'd have to give the new character everything people paid for ... or something like that

Oh, yes, one of the annoyances about today's games. The extras that you used to unlock by playing the game, and getting good at the game, you now have to buy.

And, they wonder why "over 90% of PC gamers are pirates" (Archive)?

yup ... they truly don't care

PC has always been just an additional platform where they can make some cash but aren't really too bothered if they don't ... so they don't really give a fuck how they're treating PC players ... as long as we're paying them - they'll (begrudgingly) keep releasing those (mostly) shitty ports (loaded with 74 layers of DRM because fuck you, you filthy pirates) ... but once their profits from the PC market are down - you can be absolutely sure they'll be gone in the blink of an eye

Yeah, sadly they get most of their money on Xbox and whatver. I wonder why they don't pressure MS to get them a lower dev cut :p

they probably already do

but if not - because they have no leverage ... what are they going to do if MS/Sony refuse? not sell on Xbox/Playstation? lol ... they can't just launch their own store on consoles

But in all seriousness, I'm disappointed since Ubisoft is/was one of my favorite publishers. I think they were on their best 'behaviour' when Vivendi was on their asses threatening to buy them.

same ... i really like their games .... but not enough to just bend over and take it whenever they decide to fuck me over like that

I think they were on their best 'behaviour' when Vivendi was on their asses threatening to buy them.
yup, it was pretty much the ONLY time they weren't being complete assholes towards PC players (but even then they just couldn't help themselves and were pumping their games full of DRM and making regional pricing progressively worse for everyone)

not sell on Xbox/Playstation?
I'm not sure if you're aware, but the game industry is tearing itself apart right now, thanks in no small part to moments of brilliance such as Sony's new censorship policies (Archive), that don't actually exist (Archive), but do as it judges on a "case by case" basis (Archive). And, while everyone used to think that this would exclusively effect Japanese titles, turns out Ubisoft is getting hounded as well and they're furious (Archive):

The UbiPlay console. It plays Ubisoft games :D
Why do you think Ubisoft was part of the Stadia reveal? And the beta test?

But in all seriousness, I'm disappointed since Ubisoft is/was one of my favorite publishers. I think they were on their best 'behaviour' when Vivendi was on their asses threatening to buy them.
Speaking of which, do you think Tencent has a part in this? Given their stake in Ubisoft (Archive), that is.

I have to object to that assertion. Ubisoft's PC ports are generally among the best in the industry. They're one of the few publishers that does it right. They rework interface design and controls to take advantage of mouse and keyboard, they have extensive customization, and they keep fixing PC-specific issues post-release.

No, Assassin's Creed: Odyssey is a fantastic port. It's exactly the kind of port I'm talking about. The interface was redesigned, it has excellent double tap movement options, and they've continued to refine menus to work better with a mouse post-release. (Improved scrolling and such.) This is how PC ports should be done.

it's also the only game (along with AssOranges and Wash_Doge 2) that can't run at 60fps at 900p (even with everything set to low) on an i7-4770k

I replayed Watch_Dogs 2 recently and it ran completely fine on an i5+1060. In the Assassin's Creed games, performance tends to buckle in cities due to CPU load. That doesn't make them "rubbish ports". It just makes them extremely demanding games.

By contrast, running fast doesn't make a game a "good port". Metal Gear Solid V, for instance, is a sub-par PC port with phantom input bugs, ambient occlusion that breaks if you alt-tab, non-existent mouse control in menus, an extremely clunky gamepad-oriented interface that makes simple tasks such as whistling more difficult than it should be, and so on. Despite this, you see a lot of people claim that the game is "well optimized" and a great port because their entire metric seems to be whether the game runs fast.

The meaningful metric of a good PC port is that the game feels as though it were designed for PC. It looks like a PC game and feels like a PC game. For example, the original Deus Ex is a PC game. It ran like absolute dogshit in 2000. But it was a PC game. Its dogshit performance had zero bearing on its status as a PC game and as a good game. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided has interface problems that immediately mark it as a console game awkwardly ported to PC. Clunky narrow weapon wheels. An augmentation system clearly designed for a D-Pad, with no labels telling you which 1/2/3/4 key maps to which augmentation. Stuff like that. Mankind Divided doesn't feel like a PC game, and that makes it a poor PC port.

Instead of focusing on glaring design problems, a lot of PC gamers decided that Mankind Divided was a "bad port" because it was demanding and stuttered like crazy on certain hardware configurations. This has become increasingly common. There's this idea that "good PC port" means "never drops below 60fps in benchmarks". By that logic STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl is a "lazy console port". The original Crysis is a "garbage port" and so on. There's a conflation of two or more distinct issues. There are plenty of native PC games that are extremely demanding either because they're ambitious or because they're poorly designed. That doesn't make them "bad ports".
