I played MHW for the first time in 6 months like an hour ago and this thread goes up.

I think its a sign that I need to spend more time with it.

Yeah I am also going to be making a thread for World specifically. This is just a general thread where any from the series can be discussed. Also kind of want to add more to this but I am beat after find release dates and having to omit majority of the Japanese spin offs.

Thanks for making this thread! Great job! :)

I'll probably hang out in the World one more once it goes up, but it's pretty interesting to see how far the series has come.

The Witcher stuff finally got added to PC and it's pretty well done. Capcom put far more work into it than I was expecting.

I hope the Witcher quest is not too hard :surrenderblob:
Without spoiling too much I can say that they give you plenty of different ways to survive. It's still not a cakewalk by any means, but it's not on the level of the Final Fantasy crossover.

Have you done the Ancient Leshen version? Is it easier or harder than Extremoth? I don't want to go through that hell again...

I finished the regular version earlier today and it was pretty vanilla.

Not yet. So yeah, to be fair I guess I can't say all of the Witcher stuff is on the easier side.

I never completed Extreme Behemoth either since I mostly solo. The only friend I play with rarely has a lot of time to play so I'm still helping him through low rank stuff.

I don't recommend it. Spent an entire day with a crew of people who I met through SOS trying to defeat the thing. After we completed it, most of my enthusiasm for the game evaporated. I think they really overdid it with that quest. Haven't been keeping up with any of the events until today. And I still feel exhausted with the game!

Ha! Yeah, I can understand that. I stupidly attempted it solo and quickly learned that nope this ain't happening. Even if I managed to find others to help it would just end in frustration.

I want the layered armor from Extreme Behemoth, but not that bad.

The Ciri layered armor looks hella cool though. I really want it. Did some reading and A. Leshen shouldn't be as bad. I've got a wide range build ready to go from Extremoth, so I think I'm ready to give it a shot once it hits. But if it's too hard, it's too hard. I won't lose sleep over it this time :')

That's good to hear! I did see mentions of it being possible solo though incredibly difficult. I might have to go back and check out some guides when the time comes.

And you weren't kidding, that Ciri layered set is really good! I continue to be impressed with the effort that was put into this content. Also means I might have to break down and find a group if it doesn't seem impossible.

I actually just came to Metacouncil after quitting MHW in disgust at the Leshen root attack hitbox. People complain about Dark Souls 2 hitboxes, but I don't think that was ever remotely this bad.

Yep, no matter how far away you are it never seems to be enough.

The Souls games definitely had their share though. Even Sekiro still suffered from it a bit. It was mostly three specific enemies so thankfully not too common.

Monster Hunter 3/Tri is still my most favorite. I was sad to see Iceborne doesn't at all do away with lots of stuff I disliked in World but instead seems to double down on it all. Oh well. Hope they keep experimenting on story/progression/itemization formula in sequels like they did since Tri until something works for me.

Witcher event was fun, didn't find the new monster hard at all, in fact I died once to the stupid Galaraka hunter and that was it.

Also could finish all sidequests so I got an attack gem and a cool title for my guild card :heroblob:

Congrats! (y)

I made the same mistake with the chief my first time. I underestimated how much damage he could actually do.. and I forgot to boost my HP and stamina beforehand which didn't help. :disappointed-face:

Did you use the default SNS? What was your tactic for 4th phase with pukei? Though I couldn't see a lifebar and pukei kept glitching everywhere. Sometimes not doing anything.

Yep, I never used SnS but got the hang of it pretty quickly. No particular strat for the last phase, just focus on killing the little Jagras as soon as they appear so they don't hurt Pukei.

You have a lifebar for him in the same spot the Palico usually is. Sometimes it got stuck on ledges for me and just took damage from Leshen uselessly :weary-face:. But in the end it was about taking care of the Jagras asap and then focus on stunlocking Leshen as much as possible, which is kinda easy to do with fire plus the shield slam move from SnS

Yes no life bar for pukei for me. Half the time it just stood still and stared into space.

Are you talking about the leap attack plus shield bash on the way down or the default just shield bash?

I assume the first, that one where you step back, charge your blade then move forward, jump into the air and come down with a slam.

gif is missing the come down but right click when you are in the air basically.

Yeah I was slashing hoping for more mounts as it does more mount charge.

Though I think if the pukei didn't bug out I got it. Hope to try to bust it's antlers though. Nothing broke no matter how much I was on him.

Such a hard time deciding what weapon to use, first time it was easy since Long Sword is such an badass choice but now playing again on PC I don't think I want to go for the exact same experience..
Dual Swords, Lance, Insect Glaive, SnS.. even the Bowguns look fun.

I've tried nearly every weapon just to change things up occasionally or to challenge myself. Still need to try out the two lances and the hammer.

Bowguns are a lot of fun. Either laying down a bunch of mines with a LBG or basically becoming a long range tank with a shield mod on a HBG, the downside to them is that they can be pretty costly or grindy early on depending on the type or quality of ammo you want to use. I didn't start trying them out until I was into high rank and already had a bunch of materials saved up.

Dual blades and insect glaive are great if you want to do a bunch of crazy stuff and be incredibly mobile as a melee fighter. The glaive especially so.

Yea broke antlers. Still summons 8 jagras. This quest was lackluster to begin with, now its just plain boring and buggy. I went from full HP to 0 because Leshen and the jagras hit me at same time. Lifepowders barely heal pukei so by the time I got back (because slow ass Geralt) it was dead. I was only able to break the antlers when he went to that place with jagras through a cave were you naturally find jagras.

Wait, where is the Ciri layered armour? MHW thread won't go up for a few days. Today is my long day at work, but its friday. Then I got sometime before mother's day here >.>
Ancient Leshen reward, event quest goes up on the 17th IIRC.

They explicitly said "this winter" which until proven otherwise is a 2019 in my eyes.

Plus they said in the spring update video that "We released the base game on PC 6 months after console, but this time we're aiming for this winter" which makes really makes it seem like they're targeting November/December for PC.

I'm personally setting expectations low and if it comes out earlier, I'll be pleasantly surprised :p

What do you all think of the $40 price point? Broadly speaking it seems a bit steep in terms of a DLC pack, but as a fan I'm okay with it?. That's about the same as the Ultimate editions for the older games. Hopefully we'll be able to find it for 10-20% cheaper as a pre-purchase offer somewhere.

It's already been 5 months since I played World. I'm kinda done with it after 100 hours.
Will probably jump back into it with Iceborne though, if I can nab it with some discounts from somewhere.

I'm totally clueless regarding how MH expansions are usually handled. Will you need to be at a certain Hunter Rank to access the new area(s)?

Considering they didn't do expansions before I would assume you need the base game. I think they may somehow work it out that you don't need to be pretty high hunter rank.

Before it's just dlc in terms of events. New stuff was basically a new game with an import save function of it was on the same device.

*On mobile using meta is kind of really rough to use. It's triggering me..heh. Random scrolling when trying to type and so on.

The story in the MH games has been there since the beginning, they just never made it the point of the games:

You need to be rank 16 to play Iceborne, Which essentially just means complete the main story.

That's more like optional lore/setting than story and I've not read much of it. I didn't say previous games didn't have any, they all did to a small extent, it's just that I prefered the unobtrusive presentation pre-World and for me especially 3's setup with the village survival stuff which was there but once again very unobtrusive and not in your face, unlike World's story, without making everything too character and cinematic focused like say, DMC is. There were barely any cut scenes beyond brief monster intros but you still got a hint of progression every so often with an overall goal and the twist or whatever at the end in a manner that was still brief and you didn't need to skip past stuff and then be unaware of what's happening even if you didn't care for it.

3 had a bit more story than previous games in the solo campaign but I found it kept a great balance without making it overbearing like World was to me, it still kept true to the series overall feel where the story wasn't in focus and it was unobtrusive but provided just enough justification and context (and of course without making it all about the survival of the world or whatever, it was just a village and its people's hardships). And then there was the online mode which was essentially a separate second campaign, again like previous games (though still soloable if you prefer) and it had even less story to wade through and was even more gameplay focused. I liked it that way and with all the usual side stuff like the farm and the introduction of the free hunting system with Moga forest,

It was great. I thought World veered too far from that. I wish it had been essentially Tri-2 instead (bring back underwater hunts, I don't get people's dislike).

Feels like I got replies thinking I want too much story when I was saying the opposite, World went too far in that direction, so I've reworded this a bit.

I don't remember a Monster Hunter game (apart from my first one -- Tri) where I didn't button through the story. Just does not interest me one bit. Give me a new monster to go after and I'm content.
