Weird thing with the gamepass. When I go from the windows store app, in the preview it says 1€, when clicking it goes to 9,99€

A heads up: we now have a Digital Pinball thread thanks to bobnowhere :

I hope fellow fans of the genre can drop by, so we can have a small community of pinball fans here on MC. :cat-heart-blob:

---

Now, we only need threads about Shmups, and FMV games, to have my interests pretty much fully covered. :grimacing-face:

Anyone up for doing threads about any of the above?
I promise I'll follow and participate in both. :giggle:

Holy shit, PC gamepass is only 4€!?!?

That's amazing. If the new store actually works i'm very willing to use it.

Take a fucking note Sweeney

Question:
So, I've never bought a game directly from. Uplay, opting to buy through Steam instead.

But currently I'm pondering what to do going forward. I'm currently eyeing Watch_Dogs 2 but thinking about whether I should wait for the Steam Summer Seal instead of buying directly from UPlay.

What do you guys do/think?

The same as on desktop: Use Firefox with ublock origin. At least that's what I do (and have done for many years).

When Firefox addons were broken for a day or so some time back I was flabbergasted at the amount of shitty advertising on the internet. It's unusable.
Sadly I am not using Firefox on the phone.

Personally, fuck renting games. I don't like to rent. But that's just me. I'm just a bit surprised how manY people are cool with renting.
I have no issues with it as an option. For example I want to play Metro Exodus so Gamepass is by far the best way. Sure even Spencer said the biggest surprise was they saw people buying more games and not less, having the opportunity to try loads of games out can lead to you buying ones you really like. No different from renting films really.

It's a paradigm shift that won't sit well with everyone, but we don't think of Netflix as 'renting' TV and movies.

Admittedly, directly comparing games (and how we consume them) with other forms of entertainment is problematic, but once upon a time my DVD collection was my pride and joy - those discs are now boxed in the garage, and I haven't bought one for several years now. Digital adoption we're all comfortable with these days, so perhaps 'renting' games is the logical (or inevitable) next step?

In this specific case, $5/month makes this something of a no-brainer, I reckon - even if one has reservations about the model.

The fact is, the majority of people paid $60 to play a brand new game, whether they left it unfinished or finished it, they very rarely go back to it.

Renting is a good thing so that people don't waste their money like that.

I'm probably still going to get MCC on Steam since I know I'll revisit the game every other year.

Gears 5 on the other hand I'll just play it once and I'm done with it. That's just insane value for $5 and makes me kinda doubt that the price will remain that low.

I honestly expect them to do something similar to what EA is doing with Origin Access with two different subscriptions. I doubt Gears 5, the next Halo and all other major franchises will be available at launch on the 4,99 Gamepass, my guess is that you'll need Game Pass Ultimate to play those on day one.

Personally, I agree. But I think the option existing might not be a bad thing. I doubt many developers will want to make their games "renting-only". And if they aren't, but still also offer them as part of a subscription, then actually buying games becomes something like a "premium" option, where you have some expectation of providing an enticing package beyond what you get by renting.

Renting is a good thing so that people don't waste their money like that.
See, I feel the 5er/month is wasted money. Not a lot of wasted money, but that's how they get you to waste your money. A 5er for nothing; if you cancel, you have nothing.
Maybe I'm feeling this way because I still care about games. The Netflix comparison above made me think about my stance about it and I came to the conclusion that I only have the sub for things I don't really care about (and for the kids). Movies I care about I still buy to watch via br player on the projector.

And I don't want to have the feeling that I have to finish something in some arbitrary timeframe or else I have to rent it for another month.

I keep on buying. I don't rent.

That's wrong. Within that month for $5, you get to play lots of games you could manage. You get that experience.

Compare it to the $60 you spent for one game that you might finish (or not). You only get that one game experience once. Especially for digital since you can't resell it.

We just see that differently. For me, every buck spent renting something (games, house, Appartement, Car) is wasted.

Can some help me out with something?
I would like to purchase the 2 Ghostbusters VR titles on Steam:

EDIT: Since these don't appear to be displaying correctly, it's "Ghostbusters VR: Showdown" and "Ghostbusters VR: Now Hiring".

The thing is, despite both pages showing here in Europe, they don't have any prices, so I can't buy them.
Checking the Steamdb, it seems they only configured prices to the US, and a couple of other countries.

Is there any option for someone from Europe to get this?
I mean, can a person from the US buy and gift the games to me (or is this impossible, because of the lack of European price)? Are keys sold anywhere outside of Steam?

If these can be gifted by a person from the US to someone from Europe, is anyone up to buying them for me, and naturally I would pay back using Paypal, or any other way.

thanks. :)

Hm, don't think that one can gift those games to you Funktion. I had the same issue with Ninja Blade that doesn't have a price in my country and when a friend from US tried to gift it to me he couldn't because the product isn't available in my country, or something like that. I also did a quick search and couldn't find any third-party selling those games even.

Digital purchases from sites like Steam are glorified long term rentals btw.

It depends on a lot of factors.

Say you stay at a place for 1 week, it is better to rent the place, rather than buying and selling.

You go abroad and need a car for a few days, it is usually more convenient to rent it there, rather to buy/sell one there, or to bring your own.

Similarly, with Steam games, you have a license to download it and play it. If the game is not DRM-free, you do not own it. You won't be able to sell it. You won't be able to give it to a friend or to your kids. Even if it is DRM-free, you might not be able to play it in the future on new operating systems. In most cases, you will play the game over a short time-frame and then never start it again, so you would get the same experience/value (and that is all that matters) with a rental.

Any chances the new client will be made available during Summer Sale? I'm not a super fashionable person, but Steam has the same UI since mammoths were walking among us and Tim Sweeney was considered a nice guy.

i'd say - very slim ... if those are the screenshots from the current closed beta ... it sure looks like it's gonna be a while before it's even considered for open beta :(

Honestly, I haven't heard anyone speaking positively about Sims 4 since it was released, my friends, who are big fans of 2 and 3, quickly abandoned it and never came back, so I figured it was still an awful mess and never give it a chance.

I'm sorry if the language I used offended anyone, that wasn't my intention.
Oh no, I'm sorry. I wasn't upset with your original post in the slightest. If it came across as me piling on then I want to apologize.

And to be fair Sims 4 was a bit of a mess at release, still fun, but a little buggy and missing some stuff that previous games had at release. Nowadays after patches and dlcs it's arguably the best one in the series.

I don't see anything wrong with it. I have many games on my Steam library that I played through once, or played for a few hours and didn't like enough to keep going. If I could have rented them instead of buying them outright I would have saved money. Games that I'm likely to be playing for months I will buy outright. To be honest I don't see any downsides.
