If Disco Elysium were to win something called Fresh Indie Game Presented by Subway then that's almost performance art in and of itself.
Well, the game actually allows you to be both Marxist, but also play as an ultra neoliberal (or be a fascist or worst of all .. a centrist), so I feel this fits the game in either way.

The Death Stranding awards.
Everything surrounding this game, and any game Kojima has ever been involved with tbh, is so surreal and nonsensical.

Fresh Indie Game Presented by Subway
ZA/UM for Disco Elysium
Nomada Studiof or Gris
DeadToast Entertainment for My Friend Pedro
Mobius Digital for Outer Wilds
Mega Crit for Slay the Spire
House House for Untitled Goose Game
I know it's a subjective thing but there are better games released this year than most of what's being presented here. Katana Zero or The Messenger are much better games than My Friend Pedro, Gris feels like it's filling the "arty" game quota at the cost of things like Baba Is You or Mordhau. Not that it really matters because the true winner will either be Disco Elysium or Slay the Spire, any other winner will just be a travesty.

Best Esports Player
Kyle ‘Bugha’ Giersdorf(Immortals, Fortnite)
Lee ‘Faker’ Sang-hyeok(SK Telecom, League of Legends)
Luka ‘Perkz’ Perkovic(G2 Esports, League of Legends)
Oleksandr ‘S1mple’ Kostyliev(Natus Vincere, CSGO)
Jay ‘Sinatraa’ Won(SF Shock, Overwatch)
OG wins and completely dominates TI9, their 2nd win a row, and don't get a single nomination? ok then.

Either way, the only true value of this show will be to find out what surprises egs has in store for us.

I hope Valve blows people minds away.

Also, the amount of people saying/thinking it will be Index exclusive is incredible and shows how little people know. SteamVR is an open VR platform. If you have a VIVE or Rift you are good to go.

I mean, this is what it was always going to come to with Valve's VR games.

As long as they are not announced people will complain about lacking VR games, when they are announced people will complain about the fact that they announced VR games.

Unavoidable with current internet culture really.

lol
Even I expected it to run or played using any VR headset type, not just Index.
I am curious if they'll rlease it on PSVR as well.

I have no real connection or interest to Half-Life and haven't even tried VR yet (though I'm interested), but the HLVR announcement makes me want to jump into it.
Probably in 2 years though, next year I'll probably upgrade my CPU and then the year afterwards could be VR (and at that time "high-end" VR might be a bit cheaper already :) )

Journalists and their hate boner for Valve, name a more iconic duo
Jason complained about Valve sending their employees on vacation to Hawaii (maybe also on cruise, but not sure) every year.

What disgusting company taking care about their employees health and social life.

I know the Jane from Campo Santo (can't remember her name) openly praised Valve for benefits towards maternity leave, how open Valve is to have a family culture there and so on.

The reaction to a VR Half-Life has been embarrassing on so many levels. It hasn’t even been shown and we have zero confirmed details beyond a title. Yet it’s open season for everyone to write a derisive response? Especially the media?
Honestly, between Epic, Death Stranding reception (both in good and bad reviews) and now the Valve VR game, this year has demonstrated time and time again how the vast majority (not everyone but the vast majority) of so-called gaming journalists are more often than not closer to the average fan (without the consumer point of view, which makes it even worse and more pointless) than actual journalists.

Edit: Oh, oh, let me add PS5 SSDs to the list.

I find the disappointment in the new HL game being VR only understandable, it's a new game in a series that people have been wanting for over a decade locked into a more restrictive form of gaming (by restrictive I don't mean the game itself, but stuff outside of the game).

It's not just having to buy a VR headset (and whatever else that may be needed), and needing a good enough PC to handle high framerate. Space for the setup is also needed for most cases, right?
Also, something more personal (though I don't think I'm the only one who thinks this), I really don't like the idea of losing awareness of what is happening outside.

Media aren't really much above the level of gamefaqs trolls, proven time and time again.

Jumping on meme bandwagons like that instead of offering some crtical thinking and objective analysis. PC- focused media like RPS barely mentioning VR in general, ever, as more than a passing thought on the level of a non-gaming newspaper's clickbaity misinformed games section that makes you cringe. Etc.

It's absurd, especially when they can get most of this shit for free but can't even bother getting off their ass,

It's embarassing The Game Awards only have a token VR category like an after thought. I guess Kojima has to make a VR game for that to change, lol.

Oculus/Valve probably have to take initiative and give them free shit out of the blue and still risk they won't open the box or just sell it on ebay or whatever.

You should try VR (like some of the better Quest games if you can find a place or friend to demo it for you with proper settings and the tutorials to get you into it rather than throw you into some uncomfortable experience with all the wrong settings, then think of the possibilities on PC games), disappointment will turn to excitement. Even if it wasn't a VR game it could exclude many people by virtue of the minimum specs alone but not many would complain about that. 2x1.5m is all the space you need for most games (less for others like all the cockpit seated games, more for a tiny minority), ie, take your desk chair off to the side instead of right in front of the PC and voila, for most people. Understandably this won't apply to everyone just as PC gaming itself doesn't work for everyone, it happens.

Valve wants to innovate and not make yet another first person shooter like the dozens out there already. VR is the best and easiest way to innovate to due to how fresh and new the technology still is.

Man what the fuck.

I really hope Valve will serve some crow tommorrow.

Lol Jason got the monkey paw thing from me.

I'm with Jason, I'm not going to Stan for any large and wealthy corp.

It isn't hard to understand why people are disappointed that the newest HL game isn't getting broad HW support and the response isn't "embarrassing".

All that having been said, Jason has said some questionable things.

Yeah, that's understandable too, but still, some people here are downplaying how much of an inconvenience VR can be (it's considerably more inconvenient than mainstream gaming formats), and so I'm saying that the disappointment is understandable.

It's not about "stanning" for Valve, but being open about that a HL VR game could be incredible and innovative instead of going something ala "lol vr".

Valve is not obligated to make HLA a non-VR game or have a non-VR mode (which will just make the VR game worse). Valve is doing what they think is best for the Half-Life series and what they are interested in.

If someone doesn't wanna get a VR headset, they won't be able to play it. If they wanna play it, get a VR headset. Their choice.

It's easy to understand why people are disappointed that the newest HL game isn't getting broad HW support and the response isn't embarrassing, I agree and feel the same.

It's not easy to understand why supposed industry journalists have jumped on that bandwagon when they're actually supposed to only say "Valve is going to announce something, let's see what it is". Why don't they question every single announcement from every single company before even knowing what they're talking about?

Sure, let's handwave anyone excited for VR games as a fanboy of a single company, it can't be because that shit is cool to them, nope.

And we can't have people enjoying things we wanna dismiss out of the blue whether we've experienced them or not cos we have principles, we're no fanboys!

What brand GPU/CPU/mouse/keyboard/console/AC/oven/fridge does anyone have, just to know what fanboys I'm talking to rn, yeah?
