Achievements rarity is fixed

Hi everyone,

We've enabled the new system, so those achievements that got reset should be back to where they were before. There may be some numbers that changed very slightly with the new calculation - Team Fortress 2 in particular has a few achievements that are about .1% higher now.

The numbers displayed on the showcase and profiles should update immediately. Numbers displayed in the library may take a little longer to update.

I come bringing Gujian 3 screenshots to defuse the situation~
Ok ok I'll put it on my wishlist already.

But seriously, everything posted about this looks surprisingly good.

(And I just saw that it's really cheap too)

it's a mod, yes ... but it's actually really REALLY good (just look at the user reviews)
It really is!
Given current events I do want to mention that the same people made Portal Stories: VR which is also really good!
"Remote play together is exciting because netcoding is a bitch"
Well, honestly, I can see the point.

yeah, also that .... but VR or no VR - everyone should play it ... it's as close to an ACTUAL expansion we're ever going to get for Portal 2

it's THAT good

I haven't ever really cared for Valve's games so I don't imagine tomorrow will do anything for me. But that's not VR related, just that I never got into their games.
A wise man once said: "A person who doesn't like Portal is a person upon whom one's trust shan't be placed." Do you or do you not want to be trusted, Derrick? Think about it, and answer well.

Portal 2's probably the game I enjoyed the most from them but I'm not really a big puzzle guy so I wouldn't say I loved the game. It was fine, just not something I spent a lot of time with after I finished it. Valve and Blizzard (besides WoW) were always companies that were massive on PC but just never really did much for me. I do like strategy games, but not the type Blizzard made with warcraft and starcraft. I'm more into paradox stuff and total war.
Nice save, man. But I'm on your case if Valve ever releases Portal 2 Ep. 1 :angry-face:

Wait, Operencia released end of March. And now the wait for Steam release is already nearly over?

Is it weird that I'm extra excited for this Half-Life game because I have that friends and family sub? I really like free stuff. It's a problem. I've also been waiting a very long time for it to be used (I kinda ignored artifact).
Where are our free Index' though? Does stingy Gaben not appreciate his friends and family?

Soon enough Steam will be full of these posts as plenty devs must be surprised to see that the moneybag didn't last for a whole year, and they are miles from selling all copies Tim bought.

All the talk about Gujian 3 got me to add it as well, it's on sale but it's showing a historical low of ~$8 from a couple weeks ago, was that a mistake or legit sale price?

The Operencia folks changed the wording in that post. It first said "days and weeks" till release, but it's been removed.

Still, I don't see the point of publishing that blog post when the EGS exclusivity isn't over until march.

yeah, it's so weird ...

Hades gets a store page 3 months before the end ... this one 5 months ... and that Bioshock ripoff one 8 months

really paints a pretty grim picture for egs

I am very excited about Half-Life: Alyx and I'm not going to be able to play it for a long time. I'm excited to see what can be achieved through this new medium and eventually the technology will either catch on and become mainstream (and thus cheap) or it will be sold in bargain bins (so it will be even cheaper). Either way, I will get to play it.

Thinking about how finalflame on Era said that there a second announcement should not be too far off from HL:A. If it is true I wonder what it could be. My two guesses (hopes rather) would be either a Left 4 Dead that supports VR and "normal" desktops. That I could see working and L4D to me seems like a franchise where they can be more iterative. Or that Dota Diablo-like that I believe was once reported on.

Personally I hope it is the latter.
"Oh and one last thing..."

"Rise and shine, Mr Freeman."

It's not going to be that since finalflame suggested it would be a hardware thing, but... can you imagine?

I'm sorry, but no. That's stupid.

It would be one thing if this type of attitude was applied consistently through the industry, but it's not.

Whenever e.g. Sony farts, "game journalists" will praise the everloving crap out of it.
When Valve does anything (often a really good thing for consumers, or the medium, or the industry) the first response is more often than not derision, or sometimes grudging acknowledgement.

I've tried for a long time to understand this and I think I figured out what it boils down to. Console companies and large publishers spend a lot of money on review events, conferences, and similar fluff. They write huge press releases and send them out for regurgitation by media. They buy traditional advertising, and lots of it. Overall, they (i) make game journalists feel like they matter, and (ii) sometimes also pay their bills.

Valve, on the other and, doesn't do huge marketing events. They don't fly out journalists and "personalities" for exclusive events on a regular basis. When they have something to announce or a statement to make then they just put it up where gamers can read it. They also don't (or, at least, far more rarely) make up elaborate lies to explain how they do things, or why they made specific decisions.

And that's what you see reflected in the media landscape.
Oh no, Durante is a gamergater! #cancelled

I'm joking, of course. I am of the exact same opinion and the double standards are plainly obvious.

Hehehehehe

Don't think you're supposed to do anything after finishing the Portal games, unless you wanna check out some of the better fan levels and stuff. It's not a replayable game, you already know the solutions that are fun to figure out the first time and everything after all. So you played it like most people, lol :)
Honestly even though you know the puzzles I still love revisiting and replaying Portal 1 and 2. Probably my favorite Valve games. Both of them have some crazy good mods and custom levels though.

You are free to talk about the game, just leave the complaints that it is VR only out of it.
Also, I'm already out of it, don't need a little comment telling me what I can and can't discuss on a board that does not have moderators and where everyone is supposed to be equal.

Regarding VR and valve, I'm completely done with valve's game dev arm if they lock L4D and Portal behind a VR set. If that makes me a Nathan Grayson, so fucking be it. I'm not going to cheer valve on in their quest to make a VR setup a requirement and that's just going to create constant battles. I don't support their VR only push and no one wants to hear that.

Honestly, I thought one of the strengths of PC gaming was that you don't need the newest and best and yet, its really fucking difficult to try to be part of a PC gaming community on this low end. Most of Meta is understanding of these issues, hell, there is even a thread on regional pricing that is super useful! MetaVR, not so fucking much.

Peace out Metacouncil.

I think most people who like VR do understand that not everyone can get into it. That's perfectly fine.

The issue is that it seems like you (and some others) are actively angry when Valve makes a flagship VR game. What this means for people who like VR is that you don't want them to get these types of games. I hope you see how that might cause friction.

Also, you are being really over-dramatic in your post. Valve isn't on some "quest to make a VR setup a requirement", that's just silly. Valve hasn't released a single VR game so far (just a collection of experiments), while they have released 2 traditional flat-screen games this year and have another one upcoming soon (In The Valley of Gods).

75% last week, mistake that got fixed right before I wanted to buy.
Ah OK, thanks. I like to know what actual price point I should base my decisions on so that helps. I still haven't played Code Vein so should do that before hopping into the next shiny action game.

Edit: I totally do not understand that argument against Valve making VR games. That's like saying Riot Games is trying to push everyone into tabletop gaming when the first non-League game they made was a board game, or now a digital CCG. They're thematically related but completely isolated projects.

Valve aren't stupid, if they wanted to push VR as a requirement they would have made a budget headset instead of a luxury one. When Nintendo put a new Mario game on the DS no one claimed they were trying to make the DS required. Well, that's probably not true, there's a lot of people in the world, but still.

Jkm23 Really sad to see you turning against people on this forum because you're enraged for Valve's decision to make the new HL game VR only.

I don't own a VR set, but I can see what Valve is trying to do here: giving people a reason to adopt VR. It's the chicken or the egg situation: people won't buy VR as long as there aren't plenty of high quality games, but devs won't bother to make VR games as long as only a minority of people has a VR set. If VR wants to succeed, companies like Valve need to support it.

Yea there is only 3 VR games I really want to play right now. Games that I wouldn't hesitate to buy the second I get a headset.

Half-Life, No Mans Sky and Boneworks. And maybe Elite Dangerous as a distant fourth.
Elite is my favourite VR experience so far. There is nothing quite like standing up out of your pilots chair, walking to the window of your spaceship and staring out as the galaxy drifts by.

I have wishlisted it, but found no real lets play of it.

I have a question: starting from Dark Souls to Factorio, how deep and extensive is the base building stuff? What is the ratio between fighting and building?

Valve seems to motivate devs with moneyhatted games to put up a store page asap.
In fact, yes, page up asap always help to build community as they have wrote on the dev personal documents, only thing they advice you to not to do is pre-orders as if it's far away it might end up buried.

Although I think your last take was not really true (most of us who are MetaVR really understand the issue as we have exposed in numerous times) it's really sad news you are leaving, I really hope we see you again in the future in good terms, hope everything goes fine :(

I have a PSVR, and at least that has enough games now that I'm more than eager to recommend it. Beat Saber, WipEout Omega Collection, RE7, Moss, Rez Infinite, Thumper, FireWall Zero Hour, Astrobot, etc.

VR has come a LONG way.

I mean, every game would be unplayable like that, not just fighting games. Obviously you need superb internet to stream.

But the service needs to be able to serve you too, lol. If it can't on such a limited scale launch then yeah, what are they thinking?

I'll say that I don't think streaming as an option is a bad thing. When I was reviewing MHW Iceborne on PS4 a good 25-30 hours of that was over remote play, and honestly? It wasn't all that bad, at all. I also genuinely thought that Project Stream was decent when I tested it, back before it became Stadia.

HOWEVER...

My internet is really good. REALLY good. 450Mb/s down, 30Mb/s up. Most folks can't match that, and while it's great as an option if you can manage it, I definitely don't want all my games locked to streaming.

Well it's sad to see you leave. Good luck wherever you go,
Same here. Wasn't on meta all day, seems I missed a lot of things.

About HL VR, I don't own a VR set and I'm not planning to get one soon. I don't expect anything from Valve when it comes to develop games, I loved previous HL games but they can do whatever they want, even games I don't want, I won't get mad because there"s a fcking lot of other games to play.

I saw this a few times in the last months "Valve isn't making anymore games, wtf". Well, they don't have any obligation to anyone, if they don't want to make games... free country. And if they want to do VR games, good for them, I'm happy for people who wants VR games and I hope it'll be good.

On a personal point of view, I'm more excited by the announcement for this new Wolfeye Studio from former Arkane people going to make immersive sims.
