Bloodstained - Ritual of the Night

Funded on Kickstarter: here

Bloodstained is an exploration-focused, side-scroller action RPG packing all of the best features you've come to know and love from the Metroidvania genre into a single, content-packed game.

Play as Miriam, an orphan scarred by an alchemist’s curse which slowly crystallizes her body. In order to save herself, and indeed, all of humanity, she must battle her way through a demon-infested castle summoned by Gebel, her old friend whose body and mind has become more crystal than flesh.

WHAT'S IN THE GAME?

A game soundtrack by genre and industry veteran Michiru Yamane, performed by a full live orchestra ensemble.

Addictingly tight and satisfying gameplay alongside a rich new story in the gothic dark fantasy style of Koji Igarashi, the celebrated godfather of "Igavania" games.

Story cut scenes and NPC interactions fully voice acted by a star-studded cast, including actors like David Hayter, Ray Chase and Erica Lindbeck to name just a few. (Seriously, we have a lot of voice acting star power in this game, it's kinda nuts...)

Three playable characters, two of which have yet to be revealed...

Literally a metric ton of weapons and spells, which you can upgrade, level up and visually customize.

Beautiful 2.5D graphics: 3D models crafted with a lot of love and care on a 2D game environment. That means lots of cool tricks that "regular" 2D can't do...

Igavania is back! With the support of the Bloodstained community, 505 Games and ArtPlay have taken the extra time and care to ensure we’re doing things RIGHT. Check out some before and after comparisons in this new video to see all the hard work we’ve poured into Bloodstained over the last year.

Oh and there are some dates in there or something too... Release date is live! Bloodstained launches on PC (Steam/GoG), PS4 and Xbox One June 18, 2019, and June 25, 2019 on Switch.

Ops, I posted about it on the Steam monthly topic, I didn't see your post prudis . :giggle:

Anyway, looking forward to the final game! I love Igavanias, and enjoyed the early demos, so it will be great to play another Castlevania game (even if it really isn't called Castlevania any more). :cat-heart-blob:

It's gonna have to be a significant improvement from the Kickstarter Preview last year that played stiffly, and bombarded us with dialogue form characters.

It's been 20 years (!!!) since SOTN, and the buy-in was instant with Alucard. Son of Dracula? Cool. His powers make sense.

This is another game where humans are using magic/alchemy to channel the powers of demons; one goes crazy and the other saves humanity from them?

Cliche.

It was tracking at a 6.5/7.0 last year. I expect...demand...that this game be better.

I am 100% getting this but I have never been a fan of 2.5D graphics personally, I just feel 2D looks so much better in action.

Looks fairly good, I like it.
I'm not too worried about the gameplay, the old demo felt very Castlevania with its strengths and weknesses (movement speed is too slow for me, but identical to SotN, so...), I only hope that it has good pacing and good level design.
That certainly wasn't always the case in the franchise, Order of Ecclesia is a great game... but 90% of the levels suck ass.

I just realized we are less than a month away from the game's launch.

So, who else is really looking forward to it?
I was used to getting an Igavania game every year/year and a half, and it's been almost 11 long years since Order of Ecclesia (which I really enjoyed, by the way).
I'm really in the mood for a new one.

According to comments on Kickstarter, backers may be getting a big update with info later today.

I'm really anxious about this. If it's good, I'll be there day one. SotN is one of my all time favorites, so anything that comes even close is a must play. For now, I'm holding off until extensive impressions are out though.

The price for the game will be $39.99. A bit higher than the kickstarter price which was $28
There will also be a backer exclusive dlc for sale: "Iga’s Back Pack", which contains Iga Boss and Swordwhip and probably something else. It will cost $9.99

Backers had to pay $60, in order to get exclusive DLC that wouldn't be available outside of the campaign. Then, they opened pre-orders (for months), and said this would be the last chance to get that content, it would not be sold later on. They even sent out a "final warning" message. Again, it was sold for $60.

Now, they are making this available to everyone, and when you take into consideration the retail price ($39.99) + the DLC price ($9.99), it amounts to less than $50, while backers paid $60, years in advance, to get the same thing.

It's because of crap like this I rarely back anything any more.
One ends up frequently paying far more, to get the same thing, most of the times later than everyone else. I had campaigns where I had to wait a week for a steam game key, while anyone could simply go to the Steam store, and buy the game.
Sadly, once these developers get their money, all that backer's appreciation and gratitude goes out the window.

As for Bloodstained, I'm really looking forward to it, but 505 Games coming on board was the worse thing that could have happened.
Based on surveys, they are planning to sell plenty of cosmetic/weapons DLCs. Yes, on a Metroidvania game. They still think they are selling another Payday 2.

ugh, this is really shaking my confidence in Indivisible, since they're publishing that too. I was already hoping it won't get sequestered onto EGS, now this.

You didn't see the survey? You would have loved it. Among the proposed DLCs/microtransactions were, like I mentioned, new weapons, but also plenty of costumes for the main character, including bikinis, sexy costumes, pirate costumes, and so on.

Yeah, that's what I wanted for a new Igavania: bikinis and sexy costumes. It just makes sense to wander around a castle, with a bikini and thong. :sneaky:
Again, sadly I expected this as soon as 505 Games came on board. They are experts in nickel and dimming DLCs.

yeah they fucked it up real good. i mean, the game could still be good and all. but they fucked over their supporters and they are not happy seeing the comments on the update and the kickstarter itself.

This post didn't age very well at all. :crying-face:
Why not?

I'm sure the game will be fun, and the price is (at least here) mostly decent.
Just know that there's a big chance there will be plenty of (ridiculous) cosmetics sold. If you don't care about those, again I'm sure the game will be fun, and worth a purchase.

The only thing that sucks here is that a company (505 Games) came on board after the Kickstarter campaign, and made a number of disappointing decisions for backers, among making the retail copies a better deal than the Kickstarter copies.
But, if you weren't a backer, that's good news to you. :)

Yeah, this is a lesson on why NOT to Kickstarter.
Sadly, I learned my lesson long ago, and now, I rarely back things, and when I do, it's always games that are about to launch, and whose early priced tiers are ridiculously cheap.

I got tired of getting things last, not getting promised rewards, or... not getting anything at all. :p

More I see about this, more I regret not backing and now I'll pay the price.
Nah, you did good. Take it from a guy that backed the game.

Those buying the game at launch will be able to get everything, for less, than actual backers. It's a bit ridiculous, but it's true.
And, if you are planning to get a physical copy for a console, you'll probably be able to get a copy with better packaging than backers are getting, and for significantly less.

I mean.. After Not-So-Mighty No. 9, how could I?
Glad to hear there's some saving grace for us "late-backers" too, most likely getting on PC since I hope the game can run at 4K on RTX 2070.

Yeah, I don't like what they've done to KS backers. I'll be upset too if I backed this and not getting prioritised over normal customers. I also don't like that the regional pricing sucks in my region. Hopefully, GMG has a decent discount closer to the launch date.

As soon as 505 Games came on board, I expected this crap. :)
Wait until they start releasing cosmetic DLCs/micro-transactions like bikinis, sexy clothes, and more. You think I'm kidding, but these were on a survey 505 Games sent out about the game.
Yes, cosmetics and weapons as paid content for a... metroidvania. o_O

But, more than upset, all this makes me is much less likely to back any more crowdfunding campaigns.
I backed plenty, but only few were genuinely worthwhile. After the campaign ends, pretty much no one cares about the backers.

This year has been particularly great: I backed Phoenix Point, they decided to shove an EGS key down my throat (I refunded it). I backed the Star Trek DS 9 documentary by the original producer of the series, and the Blu-Ray disc I'm getting will have less special features than one of the commercial, retail releases (despite paying far more for my copy). And now this. :p

This has been a really strong message that I should start saving my money, instead if throwing it at developers/creators who apparently think of crowdfunding campaigns as a way of exploiting fans, and not much more.

I'm really excited for this to come out, but slightly concerned about the fact that I chose the switch version when I kickstarted. 30fps isn't something that bothers me at all, but I see people talking about performance issues on the other consoles so I have to assume those will be present or worse on switch.
