Children of Morta –website

We have some pretty exciting news for you! Making its way to Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC, Children of Morta has just received pricing across all platforms. Developed by Dead Mage and published by 11 bit studios, Children of Morta will be available digitally for $21.99 USD and €21.99 later this summer!

Children of Morta is a story-driven action RPG game about an extraordinary family of heroes. Lead the Bergons, with all their flaws and virtues, against the forthcoming Corruption. Will you be able to sacrifice everything to save the ones you care for?

IT RUNS IN THE FAMILY.
Children of Morta sets its story in a distant land but copes with themes closer to our daily lives that one would expect. It is a story of simple emotions we all know so well and value more than sometimes we dare to admit: love and hope, longing and uncertainty, ultimately loss and sacrifice we are willing to make to save the ones we care the most for.
Embark on the adventure of an extraordinary family of heroes. With the Corruption spreading through the land, guardians of the Mountain Morta have to stand up against the ancient evil. But... it's not a story about saving the universe. It’s a story about a valiant family standing together while the world around them is being devoured by darkness.

FEATURES:
  • rogue-lite with a strong story line
  • 6 unique playable characters
  • emotional tale focused on a family of heroes
  • diverse set of skills and attributes
  • passive and active items modifying each run
  • multiple dungeons set in different biomes
  • rich world full of history and magic
  • uncommon hand-painted pixel art style
FAMILY TIES
The Bergson family is prepped and ready for the forthcoming fray. Discover and experience each character’s unique fighting style along with their personalities. Witness their emotions run high as they struggle to help one another return peace to the land. Witness the growth of a family.
INHERITED TALENTS
Each family member has a different background and expertise, shaping them into a diverse group of Guardians. Some prefer close combat, crushing their enemies with magnificent hammers or slashing away with a keen sword or dagger. Others perform at a distance with skillful bow use or extraordinary spells. Discover the distinct playstyle of each member and select the one that suits you!
ANCESTRAL WISDOM
Grandma Margaret and Uncle Ben - the seer and blacksmith of the family. Armed with knowledge passed down through generations of Bergsons, they are here to assist you. You can rely on their ancient knowledge about the way of Rea, the spirit of Morta land. Use their skills to upgrade the family's gear and boost main attributes. Be sure to take advantage of your ancestor’s wisdom!
MYSTICAL MOUNTAIN
To the villagers and residents of Rea, the mountain is everything. Full of history, legends and magic, it is a symbol and source of life, health, and prosperity. Delve into the mountain itself - unravel the mysteries inside. Unearth what the Corruption is and why it has come to this seemingly peaceful place.
EVER-CHANGING WORLD
The world is touched by Corruption - constantly changing. Every forest, dungeon, or temple you explore and skirmish through will never be the same, guaranteeing a unique experience each play session.
UNIQUE ART STYLE
A combination of hand painted pixel art and frame-by-frame animations partnered with modern lighting techniques come to life to create the beautifully dangerous world of Children of Morta!

Weird that they didn't bother sending an update through Kickstarter.
They haven't done one since December.

It's a bit idiotic that kickstarter backers have to discover the release date elsewhere, after months of silence.

Anyway, the betas were a lot of fun, the game looks beautiful, and I can't wait to play the final version. (y)

Wait, this is what the team behind Garshasp (my secret favourite character action game - when it didn't BSOD my computer) have been doing?
It even has the same voice over as Garshasp's narrator.
I didn't know this existed and now I'm super excited! I even don't mind the art style (that I usually dislike)

I still continue to receive no Kickstarter updates on this game. :(

The game is a lot of fun, but the developer has been disappointing with their communications.
Yeah is this 72 hour update available to backers for only 72 hours? Does my demo update automatically? Or did it already? I don't get it. I guess I don't care that much though, it was fun to try but I want to try the release version next.

Edit: yeah it's updating normally. Games PC was offline! mrfixit.

Looking forward to it!

Earlier versions of the game were quite fun, so I'm hoping the final game delivers.

Scratch that, screw the developers.
Launch day has come, and they not only didn't bother posting an update regarding Kickstarter rewards, but also they have been actively ignoring any of my attempts on Steam, twitter, Kickstarter, ..., about reward delivery, among other things.

Plenty of people wondering where's their game keys, and all they get is silence from the developer.

I'm getting too old of this shit.

Gaming in 2019:
-chase down rewards from crowdfunding campaigns (some never materialize), while crossing my fingers no last-minute exclusivity contract is signed;
-retailer exclusive content;
-pre-order exclusive content;
-time-limited content and events;
-micro-transactions;
-loot boxes;
-whinny kids with a microphone yelling insults and slurs on multiplayer games;

Sorry for venting, but it's clearly too much to ask that these developers use some common decency, and interact with the people who helped fund their games, before they got a publisher on board.

For the sake of my sanity, I think I'll just stop buying new games, and spend the rest of my days replaying Deus Ex, Lands of Lore, Arcanum, ... :giggle:

I'm sorry to hear that about kickstarter rewards... On the other hand, the game itself looks very interesting, potentially up my alley. I love this kind of art style that so powerfully stimulates the imagination. I'm also looking at Garshasp and... There's a "Wtf is..." of it.

That hits hard.

Another Kickstarter acting funny about rewards, huh? Shame.
Since then, they posted a small update saying the game has launched.
And... that's pretty much it. :)

People found out they haven't even started working on most rewards through... someone posting an email reply they received on the Steam forums. :confused:

Don't get me wrong, the game shows a lot of promise, and early versions I played were very fun (although, there were some significant bugs with the launch version that last time I checked, still weren't fixed; you couldn't even properly save on slot 1).
But, the communication from this developer has been awful, and by now, and considering similar situations, I'm wondering if any of the promised content, or digital rewards, will materialize.
It's ridiculous, really. Pre-orders of the game, at least on GOG, supposedly got the soundtrack. My tier also included, among other things, the soundtrack. I don't have it, nor have I received any info about it. :cautious:

Children of Morta’s first free content update is now live! Shrine of Challenge opens its gates for fearless heroes!

he Bergson family fought the Corruption without a glimpse of respite but their journey is far from over. Shrine of Challenge marks the first stop at a new, exciting branch in the story. Along with new fight rules and enemies, all-new items come to help the fearless heroes purge their homeland of evil.

Are you up for the challenge?

Shrine of Challenge update contains:
- Hard Mode with increased enemies damage and health, and bigger XP rewards
- New Enemies: Dark Blade and Mech Constructor
- New UI with larger HUD option
