Traveler, stay awhile and listen...

Darkness stirs beneath Tristram. An ancient evil sweeps across the land, plunging it into civil war and terrorizing the populace. A mad king, his missing son, and a mysterious archbishop are all pieces of the puzzle you need to hack through. You have journeyed to the source of this evil. The town of Tristram - now inhabited only by a handful of survivors, broken and twisted by the madness that has befallen them. A cathedral stands there, built over the ruins of an ancient monastery. Eerie lights and ungodly sounds are heard echoing through its abandoned halls, and that is where you shall venture.

Embark, if you dare, on a quest to destroy The Prime Evil…

  • Experience the legendary action/RPG that influenced an entire genre.
  • Storm Diablo's halls as either a Warrior, a Sorcerer or a Rogue - each with unique skills and abilities.
  • Unite to destroy Diablo - up to 4 players can band together via Internet, network, or play head-to-head via TCP/IP.
  • Unprecedented replayability - over 200 different monsters inhabit Diablo's ever-changing labyrinth. Equip epic items to conquer fearsome bosses and their minions.
  • A spine-chilling story - experience the horror of a world held in the grasp of The Lord of Terror.
Ahhh, fresh meat!

Travelers looking for the authentic Diablo experience can play the game as it was in 1996, with period-appropriate 20 FPS SVGA graphics, and the ability to matchmake through the classic version of Blizzard’s Battle.net® online-gaming service.
For those wanting something a bit more modern, Blizzard and GOG.COM have collaborated on an updated version of the game tuned for today’s gaming PCs, which includes out-of-the-box Windows 10 compatibility, a host of bug fixes and high-resolution support.

  • The most voted game on the GOG.com wishlist, finally trapped in a DRM-free soulstone!
  • Return to the beginning of this dark saga, now in digital format for the first time ever.
  • Better value than Wirt's wares, guaranteed.

Isn't this the first time a blizzard game is available somewhere outside of bnet?

Also, I think it's one of the few that's not actually available on bnet either?

Yo, that's legit awesome.
Diablo 2 probably soon too.
:kissing-face-with-closed-eyes:
Am I petty for wanting to pay $20 to GOG for Diablo 2+Expansion than buying it off bnet for EUR 20?
Released on GOG before on Battle.net :D
Praise be to GOG
:wd_praise:
For their constant work at providing all these PC Gaming classics for a new generation.

Now this is quite unexpected! But sure why not, we've seen others doing the same, like EA even though they have Origin and such. Wonder how well Diablo holds up? Ah good memories, staying home from school and just playing Diablo.:D

Oh, don't let Diablo through your Firewall or exclude it from AV scans. Someone in Era quoted an interview where they stated that this release is "As-Is" from 1996 so enabling Battle.Net or Diablo to access the network would open you up to all sorts of modern nasties that will flood through the gates.

Weird deal, why not in Blizzard's thing (and with a remaster treatment like Starcraft 1 or even Warcraft 3)? Weird to not have the expansion either. Still cool!

Does the DirectX version use new assets or support higher gameplay framerates?
No. While you can change how those visuals are scaled to your screen you are still going to be playing with the original SVGA graphics at 20FPS.

The expansion was done by another team at Sierra, not Blizzard, and it has always been treated as the "bastard child" of the series, so it's no surprise it isn't included.

In all honesty, it lacks polish, and it's a bit of an incoherent mess, compared to the main game.
It's a bit hard to find now, so I'm glad I still have my copy around. ;)

Oh that's awesome! I tried playing the old Blizzard games, but it was very difficult to set up on my first try. Thank goodness GoG is streamlining this process.

Bought it, but I'm very disappointed that there's no support for widescreen nor higher refresh rates, also the mouse movement is very jerky and the game still locks it in the skill menu on toggle. Hopefully whenever Blizzard decides to re-release Diablo 2 it will have a better uplift.

I dunno if they would remaster these games properly, especially D2 (which they still somewhat supported with patches recently but nothing so fancied up as higher resolution, I occasionally fire it up and it's fine, at least it runs in windowed mode too which I like for older games (though I think I had to use a wrapper for the cut scenes and graphics options to work properly in windowed mode - edit: yup, GLIDE3-to-OpenGL-Wrapper Version 1.4e), as they could believe it would conflict with Diablo 4 perhaps, especially if they're scared they will once again falter and not make something universally considered better. Warcraft 3 has no real competitor and it's even been years since StarCraft 2 and there's no StarCraft 3 in sight to think it would take sales from either so they do their best.

After they made record profits and still had to lay off 800+ people, I guess this is way an emergency option to keep the company afloat. Thank goodness for Bobby.

They're just leaving money on the table; Diablo 2 is very highly regarded and I still occasionally fire it up so that I don't lose my stash plus it still has what can be considered a healthy player base for a game its age,

Downunder.
My Friday is off to a good start. I think I still have my copy of Hellfire too somewhere. Hopefully you can install Hellfire on top of the GOG version?
