Earlier than ever before. Introducing F1 2019 – coming June 2019
We are very happy to announce that F1® 2019, the official videogame of the 2019 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP™, is coming a full two months earlier into the F1® season and will launch worldwide on Friday 28th June 2019! To whet your appetite (just a little…) and celebrate today’s announcement we’ve released a trailer, which showcases some of the game’s brand new look and feel.

For those of you who might know the F1® calendar off by heart, this will, of course, mean that game will be released during the Austrian Grand Prix weekend and, unlike previous iterations, ahead of the British, German and Hungarian Grands Prix.

F1® 2019 has been in development here at Codemasters for nearly two years, making it the most ambitious release in the franchise history and launches on PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, the Xbox One family of devices including the Xbox One X and Windows PC (DVD and via Steam).

That’s not all though! Working in partnership with F1®, for the first time ever, you’ll be able to get behind the wheel of a 2019 regulation car specifically designed in collaboration with F1®’s technical team, headed up by Ross Brawn and Pat Symonds. The car, which will be available in Multiplayer, adheres to the 2019 regulations and comes with a range of livery designs offering you a new level of personalisation. We’ll be looking at this in more detail in the near future, but for now, you can take a look at these right here:

The 2019 F1® Team liveries will also feature on the car in early marketing materials, but will be replaced by the final Team cars ahead of the games release.

We know that you love the F1® racing franchise, and we want to build on the success of previous iterations and deliver to you an experience that rivals the quality and production values of the real-life sport and includes several new game features which will be revealed in the coming months (so make sure you do keep it here for more!)

“We are absolutely delighted to be able to release F1® 2019 earlier in the Formula 1® Season, so that the game can be played and enjoyed at the same time that the real-world championship picture is starting to form,” said Paul Jeal, F1® Franchise Director at Codemasters. “Our close relationship with Formula 1® has played a major part in achieving this key objective for the franchise. That in addition to our near two-year development cycle, has allowed us to develop some exciting new features and other firsts for the franchise that we can’t wait to share with our community in the coming months.”

“The exciting collaboration with Ross Brawn and Pat Symonds has created new levels of player personalisation in F1® 2019 through the inclusion of the new regulation car,” said Lee Mather, F1® 2019 Game Director at Codemasters. “With the continued growth of the F1® series, it’s great to give players more control and new levels of car and driver customisation and we can’t wait to talk more about this alongside the new multiplayer features in the coming months.”

Already preordered (via cdkeys), because I'm a sucker for these games

I hope for a bit of a graphic boost this year, some of the tracks keep using the same assets.

I've always wanted to play these, and came close to buy F1 2018 when it was on sale, but I admit I got a bit intimidated because I'm more used to Forza Horizon.

Really excited for this game! F1 has become one of my favorite sports, and the games are really good. Codemasters has been working on this game for two years, so hopefully we see some good updates, and a lot of bug fixes. F2 will be awesome! I'm hoping for a deep career mode where you start in F2 and work your way up to F1.

Yeah, before I got F1 2016, my only video game racing experience was arcade racers. Oh man it took forever how to drive well in F1. You actually have to brake and slow down before taking a corner! You can't just drift through it. But once you get the hang of it, it's incredibly satisfying. Even more so when you turn off most assists (the only assist I use is medium traction control) and you set lap times comparable to real life.

Perfect, love to see the improvements already.

I hope that since they spent 2 years on this version CM got most of the kinks out. Generally they release the game with a bunch of minor and major bugs.

I think the Senna vs Prost thing looks pretty cool! It would be cool if they added some classic tracks for this rivalry mode thing. But I'm still excited to try it out. I'm also pretty excited for the new career mode working your way from F2 to F1. I actually think it will help me get used to the F1 career mode quite a bit. I sometimes psyche myself out, so it will be nice to get used to the new game in a lower stakes league before moving up to F1 .

How deep the career mode in these games? Can you work your way up and through the different teams?
Yep! Depending on how well you drive, your reputation goes up or down with the other teams. And then in the off-season you’ll get offers to move to other teams.

The main focus of career mode is getting resource points to put into the car to make it better.

Yeah, I'll be interested in seeing how they integrate F2 into the career mode, especially considering how car development isn't really a thing in F2 nor F3.

This game's career mode is pretty good, and they started adding to it last year with reporter interviews that do quite a bit. A bad answer and you can have your own team lose morale and have parts delayed because of it.

Always wanted to try these games out. Are they more sim or do they have some arcade elements?
It leans more sim, but the games have a ton of assists you can enable to ease you into the game. I came to the F1 games from playing arcade racers, and it took a while to get used to, like braking before taking a turn. I was so used to drifting in games like Burnout. But once you get a feel for how to play, it's so satisfying.

It definitely isn't as much of a sim racer as other games on the market, but yeah, leans more sim than arcade.

Not fond of how it plays right now to be honest. Waiting to see how it will improve in the short time to release date.

Is that the general consensus with beta testers right now? It always takes me quite a while to get used to the game with each new version.

Looks like there are in season driver changes for any driver, and off-season driver changes. So Vettel can leave ferrari, hamilton mercedes, etc.

That is a great addition, welcomed to this game.

Well ended up pre-ordering today. I played a lot of 2018 after watching qualifying today, and I’m ready for the 2019 game. Gonna do a F2 season with Lando. He is becoming one of my favorite drivers.

The game already unlocked in the US. Played for a few hours tonight and it’s really fucking good. I play with no assists, and the driving feels awesome this year. I feel like just after a few hours I’m already driving better than I ever did in 2018. It just feels smoother. I started a career mode and I like the F2 stuff, even if it is limited and scripted. I’ll eventually do a full F2 season. The Senna v Prost stuff is a rebrand of the classic challenges that you would do in the career mode of previous games. I was a bit disappointed by that, but it’s still a lot of fun to drive those classic cars. After only a few hours, I’m already so happy and I know I’ll put a ton of time into this game.

Pluses:

The game is fun, handles very well, F2 is difficult to master, and it is much better than the beta. Ended up increasing my steering deadzone on the controller to 10 to give me a better feel.

MInuses:

Only have one so far and that's the valued driver transfers. Codemasters overdid it and everyone moves everywhere! It is a little ridiculous to see the driver leading the championship leave the team halfway through the season.
Day one patch hasn't addressed the issue that they game is using last year's data for the cars, so Ferrari is slow, red bull seems to still have renault engines and williams is faster then they should be.

Hopefully future patches can get rid of these issues.
