I have questions. Male, female, gender option? Dani is generally a female name, but it can be a male name. I would like to see a Far Cry game with a female protag that actually explores the female perspective instead of giving them a male-lite story through a gender choice.

If they're a native Yaran, it would be kinda weird to have Far Cry 5/New Dawn levels of character customization. Yes, people can be any ethnicity and technically native, but I feel like this is a story about not-Cuba and its not-Cuban inhabitants. Making a battle scarred ginger dude would be kinda weird.

The game has 2-player co-op. It's possible that they'll do the thing where players are all "Dani", but the other player appears as a generic resistance fighter.

We wanted to elevate that narrative as much as we can and we introduced a whole lot of new techniques that haven’t been done on the brand before. I think the first one is, you know, we’re going to have third person cinematics, where the player gets to see their character, their customised character, in the third person and sort of interacting with all the other characters. We have also employed what we call the B cam, which means that we shoot the scenes in full performance capture and then, the actors go away and then we brought on a camera technician from film and television that essentially shoots the scene with steady cams, dollies, even cranes to give that sort of filmic feel to the cutscenes.

I find it kinda interesting how Ubisoft employees fairly consistently forget that the original Far Cry and its glorious, glorious cutscenes exist.


The visuals seem to be a further step up from Far Cry 5. I particular like the more vibrant palette, although New Dawn was already going in that direction. I find the blending of rural and urban environments quite interesting. Urban environments are very difficult to pull off in terms of performance budgets, RAM budgets, and so on. It's interesting how aspects of New Dawn, such as the ramshackle weapons, are making a return. There's even a New Dawn-style disc launcher.
