If you find Hard difficulty all too easy, test the limits of your ability to survive the winter apocalypse in the brand new Survivor Mode.

Survivor mode features:
▶ a whole new level of challenge (meeting the people's needs or balancing the delicate economy of your city will be even harder)
▶ no active pause - you need to think fast!
▶ progress is only saved automatically and on exit, so all your decisions are final!

To start a new game in Survivor Mode, select a scenario and toggle the switch below the customization button.
Frostpunk reaches new point on its Development Roadmap with the release of new DLC “People and Automatons” - available for free from today!

New features:
▶ You can now change the names of your people and automatons
▶ You can now search for people and automatons by name
▶ New visual variants of hunter airships
▶ Diversified looks of Hunter Huts, Gathering Posts, Outposts and Workshops
▶ Keyboard can now be used to navigate the main menu
▶ Added Intel NUC Skull Canyon support
▶ Added Razer Chroma support

“The Fall of Winterhome”, a story-driven, free expansion for Frostpunk, is going to update automatically in all existing copies of the game. The narrative unveils the events preceding those in the main campaign, where players might have discovered the ruined town of Winterhome. The scenario tells what had happened in the town before catastrophe struck. "The Fall of Winterhome" offers hours of brand-new content, new visuals and most importantly a new take on Frostpunk's mechanics. Players will get the chance to roam around a new map and reveal lore about the frozen wasteland they live in-game. What is the truth behind The Fall of Winterhome? Discover now!

Frostpunk's most awaited expansion - Endless Mode - is coming soon on Steam, GOG.com, Humble Store, and more!

As planned, and promised in the development roadmap, the expansion is going to be FREE for all owners of the base game.

In the time since it was announced, Endless Mode is the expansion we have seen the most about of feedback on through the forums, on Twitter, Facebook, and directly by email. In fact, while it was originally teased in the roadmap, the idea took hold with the community since the original launch of Frostpunk in April.

Forged over months at 11 bit studios, it soon goes live and introduces two styles of endless play:
“Serenity” for the constructors who enjoy growing the city at their own pace without hard challenges, and “Endurance” for survivalists looking to earn their stripes and see how long they’re able to live in the harsh cold world of Frostpunk. In both modes, new buildings are introduced to enrich the city’s architecture, including an Archives building that enables players to store lore and information in a single area, new sites can be discovered in the frostland, and new random events that may confront you with previously unknown challenges. Welcome to Endless Mode!

It's the end of December - and in the old days, it meant that Christmas is near. To preserve the tradition - let's celebrate it with a free update! A Christmas Carol: - is available in Endless Mode - adds a new Christmas themed quest line - lets you construct a new building - challenges you with new dilemmas - it's free!

5. Upcoming Frostpunk content and 11 bit studios’ other projects.

That’s not all, though! We’re still working on more content for Frostpunk. It’s too early to tell you anything else at the moment - but expect to see Frostpunk’s first piece of DLC before the end of 2019!

Project 8, our next game, is also being worked on - but we’re even more secretive about it than about Frostpunk’s DLC. However, Robert from Eurogamer tried to get some information from Marta Fijak, Projekt 8’s Lead Designer. You can read the article yourself - “What's next for the Frostpunk studio”[www.eurogamer.net] - and decide if he succeeded.

My God, they still don’t have a date for the Mac version?

I’m so glad I didn’t buy it that day the store showed it as Mac compatible.

Frostpunk was awesome but also incredibly stressful for me to play. Hopefully the next thing is a little less intense. But I'll be there as long as it comes to Steam.

seems like it will follow the suit with TWoM aka Season pass after console release

Season Pass grants access to all upcoming Frostpunk content in this season, including immediate access to The Rifts DLC and two major expansions coming in 2019 and 2020.

Frostpunk: The Rifts

Experience new level of challenge in The Rifts, brand new Endless Mode map, where the land itself threatens your survival. Using a new gameplay mechanic, bridge the rifts to access new areas. Expand the city to save your people from inevitable doom!

Frostpunk: The Last Autumn
The Last Autumn
vastly expands Frostpunk's universe by introducing brand new scenario along with game-changing mechanics and unique architecture, while broadening the game’s lore and narrative.

Frostpunk: Project TVADGYCGJR
The scouts of New London are currently in search of the intel about the forthcoming expansion. Their safe return with the new information is expected at the launch of THE LAST AUTUMN. Stay vigilant, citizens and maintain your hope as the winter continues!

I heard rather mixed things about this game - such as Xiaomi's post above : how good is Frostpunk in the end? Does it live up to its promise or is it tedious and/or simply stressful?

The answer to the latter question is a "yes" - it lives up to its promise... and it is tedious and stressful.

Frostpunk (without the Last Autumn) is a survival city building game; the emphasis is on survival. City building is just a means to an end here. I've been (re)playing a lot of Frostpunk this week to get pumped up for the expansion, and played the expansion a lot yesterday on release day.

The expansion brings a different style of play, which is more about time and labour management than it is about survival. It's still a survival game at its core, of course, but it comes more into focus at the end of the scenario. It's a very hard and unforgiving game. You'll be forced to roll back saves or even start over from scratch if you don't like "save scumming" like me. If you don't like games where the challenge and stress is part of the core gameplay, definitely skip this one. If you do like challenging survival and/or city building games, then this is an A+ game.

It's definitely not a very good game to chill and unwind to. It's fairly stressful and tedious, especially if you're playing at harder difficulties. But that's also part of the charm.

That's a very elaborate and detailed answer to my question, thank you! I think I'll consider buying it on sale given that it's a pretty big unknown for me.

The visual polish that I can gather from the screenshots is mind-boggling though. From the trails in the snow to the refractions through the UI, wow.
