Finally finished Chiral Redundancy part 2. Let's get it out of the way because otherwise discussing anything will be impossible: this event has a really, massively, enormously bad case of WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS. Jesus maybe it's because I'm not a native english speaker but I had to literally close the game every 2 nodes because of all the words my brain got bombarded with. Usually when the story really grips me (or makes me legitimally laugh) I can "drink" an entire event in a few gulps, but this time I couldn't. I don't want to hear Lentine's voice again for at least 3 months, I don't want to hear Leybniz fangirling about Persicaria ever again, or Robella talking about how Soppo is so close to evolve beyond, or hear Kalina repeat a plot point 4 times in a row like those memes about how Netflix series have to cater to distracted watchers. I'll take Team 3rd-Jobbers go "I'm a genius... OH NO" every day of the week at this point. Why the fuck do you have an event with 14 stages (+ 6 optional) and have 5 of them be "survive the Blood Tentacle for 3 turns", in a row! Even the final 5 stages are all boss battles against a single target in the same map with the same exact obstacles!. Like the fact this might be the first time I'm actually talking about gameplay (and, specifically, even on Heroic, gameplay that for me ended the moment I pressed auto and let my uber team explode everything) should tell you how insanely repetitive this event felt
And it's not like this event doesn't have interesting parts. At first, in the first 1/4, maybe even 1/3, the pacing wasn't so bad. Yeah you had some story nodes lasting a bit too much but at least the story moved during the battle nodes and I though the mistery with Nemesis' connection to Helena/Melanie was interesting. But that part got dropped instantly and then the "Blood Tentacles" saga started and I wished I never posted about how useless Lentine's character felt while talking about part 1. All right, I'm sorry, I was wrong. She got a major focus, happy now? Phew, can we please move on? I swear the moment she arrived in the red zone it's like the entire story started running on "Frieza Minutes". The dialogue implied things were dangerous and everything was supposed to move faster or someone would get gored by the tentacles every second yet every single character stopped to give a 10 minute lecture about what was happening. Yes Kalina, let's talk about how you don't fully trust the conglomerate inside a facility with hundreds of blood tentacles ready to eat you. Great job Cocoon talking with Lentine one moment and then immediately teleport to where Bluesphere and Leybniz were. Wow, the Blood Tentacle weakness is extreme freeze and high radiation? I sure am glad you guys repeated it again, it's not like I was paying attention the other 3 times!
And the funny thing is, these endless ramblings are nothing new for this series, but usually they are said by characters you actually expect to blather endlessly. Like Caldwell's insane rambling when she meet the commander face to face was at least justified by her being completely crazy and by the sheer absurdity of it literally starting with "yeah, you aren't that bad as far as my creations go, but unfortunately you can't have sex so though shit", or how it ends with "actually I always wanted to make dragons real". The final battle was really neat, but why spread it over 5 battle nodes? Was it really necessary to have one node dedicated to each 3rd-gen doll vs rival fight? Was it really necessary to have 2 "reduce Charizard's HP to half" nodes in a row followed by another boss fight except now you have to properly kill the boss? At least it was worth it to hear Mechty trying to use DrOOOn QuOOt spells against it. Fucking slayed me
The story has now shifted towards a yet unexplained new conglomerate plot, and somehow Darture got vored by Ateraxis (I think?), and things are getting so hot the commander has decided it's time to call the Coalition and Her for help. Juicy
