Codemasters has announced GRID for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It will launch on September 13 in standard and “Ultimate” editions.
The Ultimate Edition will include the base game plus all content from the first three post-launch seasons.

This fourth installment of the series will invite players to take the wheel in action-packed races on four continents, in the streets of the most famous cities or on legendary circuits.

Players will choose their vehicle from GT, Touring, Stock, Muscle Cars, Super-Modified and more, and take part in different types of races: Circuit, Street Racing, Oval, Hot Laps, Point-to-Point and World Time Attack.

GRID promises to offer a perfect balance between risk and reward that will satisfy all types of players. The handling is said to be incredibly responsive and the learning curve will allow arcade players as well as sim fans to take as much pleasure as possible. As players progress through the game, they’ll earn extra liveries for vehicles, player cards, teammates, successes and flying medals. AI drivers will also push the players to their limits.

The game will also feature a Realistically simulated damage system that will affect performance, and will feature a “nemesis” system via which AI drivers will try and take their revenge on players.

As one of the top drivers of F1, Endurance and Stock Racing, Fernando Alonso, who will also appear in the game, has joined the development team as a Race Consultant. Players will be able to participate in a series of competitive events against some of Fernando Alonso e-sports team members, FA Racing , in different racing formats. During the grand finale, they will face the former world champion in his famous Renault R26.

Chris Smith, GRID Game Director at Codemasters, said:
“GRID is a series that our community loves, and we’re very excited to bring it to the next-generation consoles. The game offers a lot of variety and depth, with many modern or legendary cars to drive in different locations and in different racing formats. Renowned for its grip, the game will appeal to all types of players, whether they are just there to have fun or they are fans of more serious simulations.
We are also delighted to be working alongside Fernando Alonso, who is arguably one of the greatest pilots in history. His experience and knowledge have allowed us to improve the performance and behavior of cars. We are extremely proud to see him participate in the development as a Race Consultant, but also to have it integrated into the game. We are eager to see our players discover the final version of the game when it will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in September.”
Fernando Alonso added:
“Since I have driven in F1, Endurance and Stock Racing, GRID is the ideal game for me, and I am very happy that the studio has added me and my team, in this opus . GRIDoffers a lot of variety, and I can not wait to see the players come to me.”

guess they're really into the volvo school of numbering their sequels ...
at least they are consistent
  1. TOCA Race Driver 1-3 -> Race Driver: Grid -> Grid 2 -> Grid: Autosport -> GRID
  2. Colin McRae Rally -> CMR 2.0 -> CMR 3 -> CMR 04 -> CMR 2005 -> CMR Dirt -> CMR Dirt 2 -> Dirt 3 -> Dirt Showdown -> CMR HD -> Dirt Rally -> Dirt 4 -> Dirt Rally 2.0

A surprise, but a welcome one. I'm more of a Dirt guy, but I enjoyed Grid series as well.

Don't like the name though...

Is this a sequel, or a remaster of the first game? Should I grab the Ultimate edition for $20?

Looks... ok, a bit heavy and slow if you ask me?
I guess there is nothing exceptional to expect from a GRID game.
