Developer: Aurogon Info & Tech Shanghai
Publisher: WangYuan
Platform : Steam

Gujian 3 is a mass 3D single-person RPG developed by Aurogon Info & Tech (Shanghai), a subsidiary of Wangyuan Shengtang. As the latest hit of the Gujian series, it boasts more free and smooth combat experience with its full real-time combat system. This generation expands the world of Gujian based on previous works. The vivid and beautiful graphic style brings the scenery, people and stories from an ancient time to life and truly makes the game world alive!
The story background of Gujian 3 is a fantasy world built upon the elements of ancient China, therefore, players will experience rich cultural context all over the game, adding daring and limitless imagination to this oriental fantasia.

Classic Single-player Game, Brand New All-real-time Combat

[Free of Travel]
Start fighting directly after entering combat without switching into combat scene. Enemies will take cover using the terrain and environment objects and try to ambush the player.

[Special Combo Attack]
Free combo between light and heavy attacks will generate Energy and Morale points while dealing damage, releasing powerful Special Attack/Morale Attack when reaching certain Energy/Morale value.

[Use Strategy to Win]
During combat, characters can switch to defense stance or dodge attacks at any time. However, these would cost Stamina points, so players will need to choose their strategies wisely according to the situation to keep their fights under control.

Constellation System and Powerful Pact Creatures

[Constellation System]

A simplified Constellation System that shows each character’s Constellation builds. Players can check and adjust Constellation with just a few clicks.

[Pact Creatures]
Make pacts with various creatures by fulfilling their conditions, then summon Pact Creatures to assist you in combat or at Lotuscape. Each race has different skills that could greatly increase combat efficiency when used properly.

Enjoy Your Life in a Fully-updated Lotuscape System

[Research & Crafting]

New feature of the Lotuscape System allows players to invite artisans to Lotuscape for researching and crafting. Control Percy to help artisans solve unexpected troubles they encounter during their research. When the research is complete, artisans will be able to make them in batch.

[Pact Creatures]
Besides combat participation, pact creatures can also assist players in Lotuscape duties including farming, mining and exploring. When they’ve gained enough experience points, the creatures will level up and be of much greater assistance.

[Decorate Own Space]
More options when decorating Lotuscape. Find or craft houses, fences, floors, plants, rockery hills, tables, chairs and other items and decorate the Lotuscape courtyard of your own style.

Enjoy Leisure: Lost Tales & Questboard

[Lost Tales]
A special in-game card game, Lost Tales. Easy to catch up with the help of tutorials, even for players new to the series.

[Questboard] As a classic element of the series, Questboard can still be found standing by the streets, providing plenty of quests for the players while telling the stories about the Gujian world and characters.

OK, honestly surprised at the price. I saw it was a Eastern Developer/Publisher combo and was expecting a £40 price point. £16 at the moment, £24 normal price. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

are there no penalties to resetting skills? it looks like I could just remove points and reapply them however I want, want to make sure it's not taking my money/exp or something :p

Just sort of wandered in here, having never heard of the series.
Action rpg with base building and it looks as pretty as the screens above? Always online drm is a definite drawback thought

I'm actually intrigued, but I'm also worried about DRM online only. Last time a game used that, when it failed rendered the game unplayable lol

Anyway, are there mods already for this game?

I like the combat, it's fun and intuitive, but it kinda drags on a little. I wish I could end the battle sequence faster, like making me and the enemies attack twice as hard. I heard harder modes does exactly that, but it also increase the enemies' health pool. :negative-blob:

How easy is easy difficulty? I have watched gameplay videos and enemies were very bullet spongy on normal. Will easy difficulty change that?

Any idea how cards collecting works? Like do you only get rare cards from NPCs you've never beaten before? It's hard to keep track on who I've played against already lol

Yeah, you only get a new card when you beat someone for the first time.
And yeah, it's kind of missing a list of NPCs you have and haven't fought :/
(or there is one and I haven't found it)

So yeah, I bought it.

And it is great, definitely up there for AA games. Combat is definitely the strongest point along the story, but it is a tad repetitive as it is a loooong game and it doesn't have that many enemy types. Plus dungeons are quite long.

But it does suffers a bit from the usual "open" world RPG tropes; the side quests are rarely interesting (or even rewarding - getting new recruits is cool, a bit of money is lame), there's a good chunk of backtracking (even if here it means long ass teleport loading times rather than running back), gear is rare and mostly stat sticks upgrades (although there's plenty of visible accessories and some costumes to craft), plus that draw distance mate... oof.

It does not stop the game from being a great experience, exploring gorgeous new zones and building your base between two incredibly satisfying fights is the sweet spot for a good adventure. The bosses are very, very good. Even basic enemies are enough of a threat that you have to play decently well (or spam healing, but then you have to grind them or grow plants again).

Surprising amount of variety too, like Queen said. Some levels are fucking nuts, the Blacksmith's world is straight out of fucking Dark Souls. With extra platforming. That was unexpected.

Yeah this game is so much better with the base opening up, it's almost like a mix of atelier and ni no kuni 2 (sorry can't think of better examples because those were the ones I've played most recently), well except this game is much better than NNK2 imo :p

I've noticed the town NPC dialogues change quite often, but it's incredibly hard to keep track of, and I still can't tell whether the characters in the notes I find around the towns are related to them or not.

huh I still haven't unlocked those mini games yet (I'm like mid/late act 3)

also I'm not sure if I missed one of the sidequests that opened early on, where you have to look for Cen Ying's uncle or whatever, I still don't know how to track those really old quests, they're not on my map/log lol

Well, I'm interested, but without any sort of playable demo and so little info available I'm not particularly willing to go in completely blind.
Especially with all this talk about an always online DRM.
You can't save the game without being online essentially

You can check sidequests that are still working under Quest Log in the Lore option. Also minigames in the Lotuscape are open as soon as you complete Big Family 3, you can find the minigames next to your "house" in the hot springs.

I really want to give this a try at some point.

Are there still any significant updates expected for it? I don't have time to play any RPG twice and if there are I'd rather wait.

The game is one year old, so I doubt it is receiving, then again the Captain Toad minigame was part of the English patch. Haven't seen anything on Weibo that would imply any larger updates for it either.

I think their previous game dropped online DRM when they stopped supporting it?
Maybe it will be the same for this.

Hopefully, that online DRM is more annoying than I anticipated, the asia server is horrible and you can't change it mid game without starting a new game.

Yeah, the HK server is atrocious with disconnections and poor uptime. Not uncommon for servers in China unfortunately...

The US one has no issues however, outside of being an annoying DRM.

I've played for 1.5 hours or so, barely scratching the surface I assume.

The game really is surprisingly beautiful, thoug hI wish there was a higher distance setting (higher than the current "High" setting I mean). I hate pop-in.
In terms of gameplay I was surprised by the difficulty. I'm playing on normal and it's not too hard, but I actually needed to eat some usable items in some story battles. I feel like this basically never happens at "normal" difficulty in most games like this. Maybe I just suck at this one :p

(Also, thanks to this thread I knew that I should use the NA sever, so I haven't had any issues with that yet. luckily)

Did you encounter any performance issue like stuttering?

Not so far, no. It runs at a somewhat stable 75-85 FPS for me in the areas I've seen (which is in my monitor VRR range, so everything runs pretty well).

(Edit: as usual when I post about performance I should note that my current PC is a bit overkill, so just because I don't see perf issues doesn't mean there aren't any)
