Join Trey Smith, creative director on Hardspace: Shipbreaker, as he walks us through a typical blue-collar day ripping apart ships for parts in the terrifying vacuum of space. Hardspace: Shipbreaker is coming to Steam early access this summer and console in the future.

PSA: Space cutters will be held accountable for all damaged material, and in the event of death, additional cloning.

They have also teased the new ship type in the latest dev diary and said it will be the first science type ship coming to the game. I think they said it will be released in August.
They just added some new variations on the mackerel class cargo ships. Makes a bit more sense, you can access the fuel tanks without cutting internal panels.
Yep, I have been playing it after the update. They also added some new things to salvaged as well, eg. forklift, tools...

New ship, only in the beta atm, the Gecko Salvage:

Yeah, I am waiting for its official release. Skipped through the video and it seems to be a normal Gecko but with parts from heavy cargo type, so it is not as big as a variant like Stargazer. Hopefully they will announce a new ship type soon to improve the variety.

Yeah, a new ship what the game needs. :( How about some graphic/performance settings? The performance is still abysmal. :(
Many people are asking for optimization. They probably know but for now it seems that they prioritize fixing bugs and crashes,

How is this these days?
Didn't it have some performance issues at launch?
Anyone play it recently?

I have played 43 hours. The only graphic options are resolution, vsync and texture quality. I have always been playing on high texture quality setting and am able to reach 60fps at most of the time (1080 Ti), but with this latest major update. the framerate could sudden drop to mid 20s without any reasonable reason. I was dismantling the latest Javelin class ship so I am not sure if the drop is exclusive to this new ship class.

There are three classes of ship types now, with each class having different variations (eg. cargo, science, civil...). Originally player need to start a normal career mode where there is time limit between each session. Later they add a mode which removes the time limit, as well as a free mode which is independent from the career mode, allowing players to dismantle a ship without concerning any resources management and time. There is no coop/multiplayer, but there is a weekly competition mode to compete with others.

Overall, the gameplay is unique and excellent. Dismantling a ship bit-by-bit is also very satisfying. The control requires a bit of learning but very smooth to use once you have mastered it. I do recommend to wait a bit if you are expecting a full game. This is still very much an EA even though the development team has built a very strong foundation for further expansion.

Somewhere else
Have they fixed the performance issues? Have they added more graphic settings?

EDIT: Installed the game again to try the update and answers are: No and no. :(

The update hasn't rolled out yet. Try again later (though I am not holding my breath on performance change:cat-heart-blob:

Finished the first act, lashman will like the story!

Performance feels a bit better though I haven't accidentally detonated a reactor or tried to feed the entire aluminum substructure of a large ship into the furnace all at once yet.

That's good to hear. The game crashed twice when i was dismantling a javelin so still haven't done act 1 yet.🙁

Really love what they did with the Mackerel class. The variants feel so different between each other now.

Javelins are pretty new to me, definitely take a bit of work. Had two variants, one with empty cargo pods and a 2nd with a giant fuel tank in the middle. I blew up the tank accidently!

The interior design makes more sense now, no more cutting aluminum panels for access. I think the only time I've had to cut is the middle part of the javelins. No more cutting airlocks.

You can melt the supporting beams on each side (8 in total) of the middle section so no cutting is really needed.

I also cleared Act 1 today. I was expecting a longer story and introduction of gecko ships, but the current length is totally fine.

Btw, I noticed that they have updated the roadmap. They didn't mention it but I hope more ship classes are planned.

I remember a while ago BBI said there is a secret / Easter egg that players have yet discovered. Not sure if is found now.
