Feel the beat as wannabe rockstar Chai and his ragtag team of allies rebel against an evil tech megacorp with raucous rhythm combat! From Tango Gameworks, the studio that brought you The Evil Within and Ghostwire: Tokyo (no, really) comes Hi-Fi RUSH, an all-new action game where the characters, world and combat stylishly sync to the music!

Im super hyped for this, will finally play this weekend. Even though I don’t like DMC style games this has such nice visual style and just seems fun so I might still like it.

I think the rhythm part enhances the game too so it's like an amusing mix up of a music/dancing game and a character action/fighting game, when it clicks it's really awesome.

Absolutely adored the first level of this. Great rhythm-based DMC action, fantastic art direction and a great soundtrack.

We’re looking at a top 5 2023 game here, I think.

The animations in cutscenes are actually really good too for a "budget" title.

I'm 2 levels in and each level seems pretty lengthy so far, I heard it keeps up later so I'm looking forward to it.

My results for level 1 and 2 so far. My just timing is getting worse as the game progress with more abilities and combos unlocked, the enemy encounters get a bit more complex, but maybe I need to slow down a bit lol, it's hard to sync up to the beats while avoiding damage.

Just finished track 1. Took my sweet time to explore and found plenty of hidden areas. Most are blocked off so I guess they are designed for NG+. I can see myself replaying this game in the future, too. It is incredible.

Although it's a bit too early to say this, especially since I had to quit halfway through level 1 because it was late at night, but I already feel this game will easily be a GOTY contender for me. And the artstyle is just phenomenal. I've still got the attack beats stuck in my head!

Unlocked Parrying . Man this game feels so satisfying when you really get into the rhythm.

Just finished track 2. The boss fight was fantastic, though I died several times. I feel decent about attacking to the beat, but I'm struggling to dodge to it. I ate Rekka's huge grab attack like 3 times. It looked rad though.

I'm wondering if hard mode grading expects NG+ gear. Apart from the bosses, I haven't been having too much trouble with hard, but some of the choruses in track 1 seemed unreasonable to get good grades on with such a limited toolkit. Now that I've got the grapple, a special attack, and a larger combo list, the S-ranks feel much more reasonable to attain.

I finished on Hard, at some point I couldn't get pass C on score after fights no mather what I did, I had to use
the two chips that helps with score and combos
, after that S was obtainable again.

I'm playing on hard too, I think it's mostly the just timing that messes up my score. I haven't paid attention to it too much though, I'm on track 4 and difficulty is quickly ramping up so I'm just trying to not die than anything. My just timing literally went from 80% in track 1 to 70% in track 2 to "alright i'm just gonna dodge to survive" in track 3 lol

Track 3 results

As I posted in the Steam thread, be aware that this game syncs graphics settings via Steam Cloud.

If you view the game on Steam Cloud, you can see a lot of .ini files are syncing. Hopefully they can switch one of those off and have all your non-graphics settings continue to sync without screwing up your graphics every time you switch devices.

Played all afternoon today! Track 5 to 8 results:

Those fire enemies really mess up my combos. I've been trying to play a lot safer so to not die and the score really plummeted lol

Made it through Track 6. This game makes you feel godlike whenever you're on-beat. It's incredible!

Parries are absolutely dope.

The Samurai that start showing up in Track 5 are brutal. It took me way too long to get the rhythm for their crazy flurry attack. And while their final attack has an easy rhythm, I always get thrown off and miss the opening hit. I think the audio of the poetry cutscene throws me off. I died so many times to those guys before it started to click.

Track 6 is my favorite level yet. Although it's short, I absolutely adored the final chorus. Between the side objectives and the mandatory partner switching, it feels so frantic, but so satisfying.

What's funny is the parry flurries don't bother me until the final timed hit. I choke every time.

Yeah I sometimes still miss the first hit of those rhythm attacks, I think some of them don't start at the same beat, but I think if you press buttons before it starts the rest still counts so that's what I've been doing. Like parry, doesn't hurt to start early instead of pressing them when I think they will start an attack, and just stick to the beat and press it again, better than getting hit, my just timing has gone to shit though because I've been spamming stuff, lol.

Its been a day since I beat the game and I still can't get it out of my head.

Those last few levels!

That end credits song! It gave me the same vibe as the ending of Persona 4 Golden, just major feels and a warm feeling remembering the fun times you spent with these characters. The perfect reward after the brutal last level.

Currently working on the postgame, which is also surprisingly engaging :coffee-blob:

I beat track 10 and the song in track 11 is great

on track 12 and I got stuck and couldn't figure out what to do until like after 10 deaths lol. I'll finish it off later.

I just finished it, and wow. The game does a fantastic job of continually escalating. Tracks 10-12 are wild.

The songs from the Track 10 cafeteria fight and all of Track 11 really hype things up, and it makes me wish they had a bigger budget for more licensed music. I'm crossing my fingers for a sequel that can manage that.

The final boss was so much harder than I expected. Took me 17 continues to get past him (though when I did, it felt like a one-sided stomp. This game's mechanics are really feast-or-famine).

I'm looking forward to digging into the postgame content now. Seems like there's quite a bit to go back to. Crazy that they're only charging $30 for this.

Also, a question: Does anyone know if there's a way to speed things up on the final boss's second phase? Whether I attacked or hung back, he didn't seem like he was in any hurry to use the moves that leave him vulnerable.

Just finished it, the last boss was weird and hard, I died like 34 times (took me like 10 on his first phase because I didn't know what I was supposed to do), and I don't think I really figured out his second phase either because I was just busy parrying and not die, and just kinda eventually beat him lol. Got a D or whichever the lowest rank was. In comparison I beat the lady on my first try, and only died once at the werewolf. So it was a pretty huge difficulty spike.

Gonna play some more on very hard for now and open up those rooms.

Not sure if you've figured it out by now (I just finished the game, so a bit late to post), but I've found that using magnetic link on him during the second phase causes him to attack more often. That's one way to speed things up.

Also, a level 3 D-Parry Invincibility chip and Korsica's level 2 stun chip are really effective against him, particularly in the first and last phase.
I sorta wish that the directional parry worked more like the one in Bayo/Wonderful 101 where you simply flick the trigger against the attack, but oh well.
