Last week I went to McDonalds for the first time in a while and I bought a big Mac with a large fries, price was around 7€ and some.

I ate it and it was just bland as hell.
Neither the patty nor the bun had any sort of flavor. The only thing that had any sort of taste was the big Mac sauce and the pickles.

On the other hand I bought this delicious motherfucker yesterday for dinner

A bed of pickles at the bottom, two patties of 150g each, 3 different sorts of cheese and caramelized onions on top, and it was only 2 € more expensive!

It felt like I died and went to heaven.

In conclusion, i really don't get why anyone would ever want to go to McDonalds.

I guess consistency and knowing exactly what you are going to get are a big part of it? We are creatures of habit so most of us take comfort in living predictable lives. Food choices are just one of those things where most people seem to be risk averse and would rather take what they know they'll enjoy.

Also, marketing!

Looking at the alternatives around here: you either go at Burger King (relatively new, it opened up 2 years ago), but it costs a bit more, or at the various pubs or places specialized in meat / hamburgers, but these cost 2-3 times more than McDonald's... so I can definitely see why they've survived all these years and actually opened up some new places around town.

I personally haven't been in one in at least 10 years, I either go to the pubs or cook them at home with sous vide + grill or pan :grinning-face:

I'm currently embarking on my burger tour on my town and yeah, no way I go back to McDonalds (though I must've been there like 5 times total in my life) after tasting "gourmet" burgers.

McDonalds is way cheaper though, at least here.

Sometimes it's fun! I really like the fried potatoes and it's cheap+quick.

In Japan McDonald's really goes out of it's way to advertise and appeal with unique and seasonal items. Sakura fries, Choco pumpkin fries. yum yum! Plus they like to make burgers from other regions! I remember a German one had some sorta chicken and bologna sausage mix with rye buns and pickled cabbage. There was a Texas Burger too, that was really yummy with fried onions, cheese, mustard relish, bacon, and BBQ sauce.

And when Windows 7 launched, I remember they partnered with Microsoft to advertise a 7-layer Burger! lol 7-patties! o_O

Of course these tend to be fatty foods, so you gotta run around and work it off pretty quick afterwards lol.

I don't like the McD's in America at all by comparison. Everything tastes worse somehow. Ingredients feel totally different. :cautious:

Price is a fair point internationally i guess, but here in germany it's really not much cheaper than any proper burgerplace.

Where do you live that they are two to three times as expensive?

I'm offended by this!

It's cheap, here the burgers are under 5€ while the gourmet places range from 10-20€, which is insane if you ax me.
I find Mc delicious, while the gourmet places are great too I'd rather take 4 hamburger vs. 1.

Northern Italy. A good burger can easily cost 10€+. Just last Friday I went to a new place that opened up a few months ago and I spent 10,50€. It wasn't the most expensive burger they had.

Even for a vegan burger these places (hamburgeria) usually ask 9€+.

Sausage, not sauce! LOL.

And hey man, I'll be the first to admit, Japan takes all kinds of things from other cultures without understanding or even trying to lol. Just look at all our adaptations of Western holidays.

Halloween is a cosplay party. Christmas is for lovers. Valentines got split in two, Valentines-day (Girls give chocolate/baked goods) and White-day a month later (Boys return presents to the girls, such as jewelry, white choco, baked goods, white lingerie [if you're intimate]). Etc...

did they do the same promo for Xbox 360 launch? :p
>implying Japanese even know what an Xbox is?

(I don't remember any McD's collab for it lol.)

So you are essentially a burger slut. :steam_pigblanket:

Northern Italy is on the more expensive side in general, isn't it?

It's fast, comparatively cheap (at least around here), and while it's not amazing it's also not bad.

... I really like putting their curry sauce in the burgers.

For cheap fast food everything is shitty here, so mcdonald's is not a bad choice for me in comparison, I eat their chicken wings and a burger here every once in a while.

I'd say it's halfway between extremely consistent flavour and the fact that the flavour is sort of like scientifically developed to be mildly addictive.

What I find really annoying is that I'm more inclined in eating at McD than like any other fast food around (walking distance from: BK, KFC, Five Guys, Taco Bell, and other local chains), even if I like some of them more (Five Guys is legit). I blame the addicting factor tho.

Though, apparently in UK they don't do many special edition burgers compared to Italy, so I'm starting to get tired of getting the same old Double Cheeseburger for the umpteenth time.

In Japan McDonald's
Fucking hell, like 10 years ago I had a McTeriyaki (or whatever it's called) in a Japanese McDonald's and it was one of the worst thing I've ever eaten, like same level of atrocity as the one time a friend snuck some natto in my fucking soba.
