Live the life of a gangster across three distinct eras of organized crime in America

Mafia: Definitive Edition will launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, and Stadia on August 28. Mafia: Definitive Edition will only be available standalone as a digital release for $39.99, but is included in the physical edition of Mafia: Trilogy due out on the same date for $59.99. Users who purchase the digital version of Mafia: Trilogy, which is available now, will receive Mafia: Definitive Edition upon release. More information on Mafia: Definitive Edition will be announced at the PC Gaming Show on June 6.

It’s 1930. After an inadvertent brush with the mafia, cabdriver Tommy Angelo is reluctantly thrust into the world of organized crime. Initially, he is uneasy about falling in with the Salieri family, but soon the rewards become too big to ignore. As he rises through the ranks, the paydays keep getting bigger, but the jobs get even dirtier. Tommy may ultimately earn the respect of the Salieris, but becoming a Made Man will leave him more conflicted than ever with the new life he has chosen.

What is the actual price meant to be for mafia 1 remake? because I see it is 10$ where I live, so I bought it in case it is an error. Maybe it is discounted because I own 2 and 3?

Considering there is no PhysX in Mafia 2 definitive, maybe it is best to play classic with the Old Time Reality mod?

apparently there is ... but it's just turned on by default (which also means the game runs like crap on AMD cards) ... and also toned down compared to the original game

Hmmm, I wonder if that is why the consoles are having performance issues.

“For example, Sarah, the love interest in the original, she doesn’t get very much screen time, but she’s the heart of why Tommy Angelo is doing what he’s doing,” says Blackman. “At the beginning of the game you learn that he’s trying to arrange a way out of the life and he’s doing it all for his family, so we wanted to make sure that as a player you knew what it was that he was trying to protect. We wanted to make sure that Sarah got more screen time; she’s in the game more, has an understandable kind of role in the lowercase family and uppercase Family.”

Story isn’t the only thing getting expanded, either, as the team examined the missions from the first game and expanded those where they thought it would benefit. While not every mission is bigger and expanded, it seems they aimed to add new content where they felt it was appropriate.

“We took a hard look at each mission and looked at whether or not we could add additional set pieces,” Blackman continued. “If there was additional content we could put into those missions to flesh them out a little bit, or add a couple more memorable moments to each without sacrificing the core narrative beats or the intent of the mission of the story overall.”

For Mafia: Definitive Edition, this was a particular focus for the team: adding new meaningful missions without too much repetition. "Almost all of our emphasis was on the missions for Mafia: Definitive Edition, which again is in the spirit of the original name," Blackman explains.

Mafia: Definitive Edition wants to straddle the line between the original and Mafia 3 by offering a host of options. In addition to basic difficulty options, Mafia: Definitive Edition includes settings for police presence and how they treat infractions. If you want to play Definitive Edition like the original, you can, but it also opens the door for players that just want to experience the story of Tommy Angelo.

"The original was a challenging game and that was part of its appeal," says Blackman. "So trying to walk that line with our normal difficulty mode and make sure that it feels still like a compelling experience for those that remember the original, but doesn't alienate new fans and players. We're trying to solve that by providing you with control over a number of different options."
Alongside the difficulty options mentioned before, Mafia: Definitive Edition will feature two options for its driving mechanics. There the full-fat simulation driving mode, just like the original, and the accessible driving mode for those who aren't as hardcore.

It is weird, Blackman said the remake has been in full production for only about year and a half, but the composer was talking on his twitter about "over the years" of composing the score.
I wonder when the actual full production really started since this seems like such huge remake that would sure take several years. Even if they had most of the story and high level design, redoing all the assets from scratch and adding and improving stuff is not small task.

pretty sure they started immediately after they were done with Mafia III
