I was always on the seat that says 'I don't actually care about social media but I hope that activity pub wins in the end'.
I really hope ActivityPub wins in the end, but I have to say I really dislike the term fediverse. :surrenderblob:
:wd_warren:

The main issue of Mastodon will forever be same thing that's also its strength, the way the instancing works.
I just don't think people are ever going to gel well with how things work when you look at a single post on an instance you are not on.

Like this just isn't a great user experience. And I don't think they can work around it on their end because it would mean some kind of centralization, and well, yeah.

Yeah you can work around it with browser extensions, but for most people the out of the box experience is the deal breaker.
Also the default UI is still really terrible, even the advanced interface is kind of bad.

I'll never not be amused of the utterly bizarre concept that is the Federated feed. Random posts, some guys beefing in Chinese, Germans complaining about random shit, porn, etc.

yes, that's the idea - posts from ALL the instances, but you can still filter them by language at least (it's in settings)

I could, but what's the fun in that!

Although I have witnessed shit I really wish I didn't see, but that's part of the adventure I guess.

yeah, i suppose, lol :P although - i don't think many people use the federated feed, it's a much better idea to just follow hashtags instead (you can even follow a hashtag and have it displayed in your home feed instead of having to have it opened in another column/window/whatever)

I do have that set up for a couple of hashtags.

I also lost my old account and had to continue with this one, sad.

Yeah, but I accidentally deleted the 2FA set up for that, whoops.
yeah, doesn't look like i can do anything - apparently you deleted the account (unlike other stuff - deleting an account on mastodon REALLY means deleting the account)

I really don't remember doing that lol but oh well, thanks for checking.

that avatar should've tipped me off, i guess :P but thanks :) enabled notifications for you now as well, woo
No prob. I might have accidentally closed the account tbh because I did close a bunch of them including my Discord account, I haven't been in the greatest headspace but I'm slowly recovering.

One thing I do like about Mastodon is how friendly and approachable everyone seems to be. I understand things currently suck for a lot of people, but it seems like a lot of folks on bluesky seem to be too irony poisoned and always on edge.

What I noticed in a difference between Mastodon and bluesky, is that Mastodon seems more interested in talking about stuff, while bluesky felt more about "engagement"

Yeah, everyone wants to be the Funny Account of the day and that fucking sucks. The worst offenders are the dril imitators lmao
