Microsoft is reducing the cut it takes from PC games sold on its store from 30 percent down to 12 percent.

The reduction comes into effect on August 1, and will mean that Microsoft takes the same cut of revenue as Epic—something which it's been using since the launch of the Epic Game Store to try and entice developers. Valve still takes the standard 30 percent cut of games sold on Steam, reduced to 25 percent when sales hit $10 million and then 20 percent after $50 million.
Sounds like this would cut into Valve's audience, right? Well, maybe not?

In other words, what makes Valve attractive is its massive audience that has established that it will pay money on games. This dev seems to claim that Epic's audience primarily consists of free game snatchers.

Time will tell if Microsoft can change things. Personally, I only sub to Game Pass.

Raphael is right. As long as the Microsoft Store is utter scrap, people won't use it. And as long as people don't use it, devs and publishers won't bother to release their games on that store.

It's the EGS discussion all over again; if a company wants to compete with Steam, it should try to provide a better consumer experience in the first place instead of throwing loads of money to developers.

In what way does the lower store cut improve my experience as a customer?
When they figure that out we can talk about me spending money in their store/ecosystem.
