WELCOME!

Hello, folks! :dmcblob:

For me modding is one of the most appealing perks of PC gaming. In a lot of cases, I'd even buy a game simply due to its modding capabilities and community. Mods are just that important to me. While I mostly stay away from immersion breaking mods, I always try to use visual enhancing and outfit-related ones. I regularly visit RPS and DSO, and I often find interesting mods that made me want to reinstall or even buy the game. How about you, MC, Do you love to mod your games? Do you create or simply use them? Did you just find a new, interesting mod? Share them all in this thread! :highfiveblob:

I recently found one modder working on fixing graphics on the Atelier Firis, with plans to expand to other Atelier games.

Atelier Firis Graphics Fix

TLDR I fixed stuff in Firis because it ♥♥♥♥♥♥ me off.

Firis graphics fixes!
1. FXAA adjusted so it won't miss edges.
These fixed values can be applied to other games as well, although this hack is very specific about when to apply the hack and probably won't work with the other Atelier games.

2. Tonemap shader replaced with Lydie and Suelle's shader. The original shader clipped at 1.0, the new one clips around 1.84 instead. This means ugly colour shifts don't happen, but the image is dimmer overall.
As tonemapping is always subjective, using Lydie and Suelle / Lulua's tonemapping operator was chosen because it's "closest to artistic intent". If you don't want this fix, you can remove the shader (dxbc) file. The clipping adjustment fix will be disabled.

3. Ambient occlusion shader intensity raised from 0.5 to 2.5. This matches Lydie and Suelle. Occlusion detection radius ranges are now automatically pushed closer together, as values too far apart look terrible visually. The transition distance is also greatly increased. This leads to AO looking much better in motion.

Just the inclusion of HBAO alone is a huge improvement! This mod+ ReShade should go a long way in prettying up the older Atelier games. (y)

On my next day off or maybe later tonight I'd like to dump some of my favorite mods here. Modding is one of the things I consider essential to PC gaming, and I never boot up an AAA game without first checking for community mods/fixes.

Modding is also a huge reason why I personally am against streaming or taking local files away from the user.

I remember a mod for the original Tomb Raider called Nude Raider. Is it still around and works for the Steam version? Asking for a friend

There's also the input overhaul mod that goes a long way towards fixing the game's absolutely atrocious mouse and keyboard controls.
Among other things it adds cursor aiming so you simply point the cursor where you want to shoot during top-down sections and so on. It's a night and day improvement and it puts Square Enix to shame.

Not a mod per se, but I spent quite a lot of my childhood and teenagehood downloading and playing custom Jazz Jackrabbit 2 levels. This is my favorite 2D platformer of all time, and bundling the level creator with it was a genius idea. It even had a cinematic level pack with a story, which I thought was amazing back then. Some people also discovered a way to exploit the bugs and glitches in the engine to develop a whole new game mode, which is fascinating stuff (kinda like the surfing levels in Counter Strike).

Man, I looooove this game.

Nope, I never reacted to this post. I would never have done such a thing.
MC is too lenient because you can roll back the reaction after you peruse the content. I forward the motion to make all reaction to NSFW content permanent so we can expose the most perverse amongst us. :02notes:

Ah, nude mods. A traditional cornerstone of the PC modding community. (y)

My only problem with them is how often they make very little contextual sense. It really only works for me in Bethesda style RPG's, because you start nude and then dress up in clothes/armor like a normal person or like in real life. ... but to play a whole game nude, that just doesn't work for me lol.

Mods make Civilization VI good, because Firaxis sure as hell have great difficulty doing that.

They're also good to cheat so that I can speed experiment with different city layouts and strategies. Helps me kick ass in MP against friends.

Those are pretty cool mods, but not exactly lore-friendly. :02sad:

I downloaded a couple of hair mods and that longer twin-tails hair mod is also great. Now I just need a good face preset mod.

Replaces ingame models with high polygon cutscene ones, surprised it took this long so I thought it wasn't possible :p

If only someone would fix lightning returns, I liked that one the most lol

Does anyone know a good resource for mods news? I've been using DSOG but sometimes I still missed some good stuff. If you look at the current main page content, you'll probably get the idea.

Browsing through nexus and moddb would be a huge chore.

Atelier Graphics Tweak mod was recently updated (06/01/2021). Buried in the deep recesses of Steam Community Forum, as usual.

Features:

  • A new version that works with all games (Rorona-Ryza)
  • SMAA injection before the UI is drawn. Disable by removing HLSL files.
  • Internal resolution lock removed.
  • 4x (2Wx2H) supersampling, now fixed (and forced on).
  • Experimental "text rendering stutter" removal hack, which removes the stutter that happens whenever a new line of text is displayed on the screen. Buggy.

Common issues:
  • Not working with Reshade / Special K / etc.
Atelier Graphics Tweak does both competitive early (pre-Present) and lazy late (post-Present) hooking. Injectors that hook DirectX can prevent my code from working. Early hooking is necessary because the resolution of the render targets has to be changed at allocation time and can't be changed afterwards.
  • Popup when starting the game
I have some code that detects whether the user wanted to apply a resolution hack and whether the code was successful in doing so. If not, I pop up the error message. The message has been improved and now tells what failed to hook (eg. why it isn't working). This check runs around 1s after the game starts.

Known issues:
  • If your system is really slow, the resolution hack may not apply in time for the check.
  • The anti-stutter hack is really buggy and will crash in certain, reproducible scenarios.
  • The anti-stutter hack is really buggy, and sometimes text will fail to render (it will render as a white square). Usually, this manifests as a single missing character.
