Need for Speed™ Heat – Street Racing Video Game – Official EA Site

Hustle by day and risk it all at night in Need for Speed™ Heat, a white-knuckle street racer, where the lines of the law fade as the sun starts to set. By day, Palm City hosts the Speedhunter Showdown, a sanctioned competition where you earn Bank to customize and upgrade your high-performance cars. At night, ramp up the intensity in illicit street races that build your reputation, getting you access to bigger races and better parts. But stay ready – cops are waiting and not all of them play fair

Looks sort of cool but I have zero interest. All I can think off is how many microtransactions there are going to be and how many mobile F2P mechanics they'll adopt this time around.
Please EA, just make games and not schemes designed to burn my time and money.
Andromeda, BF2, Payback and Anthem really burned me hard I guess, both from a game design aspect and getting sick of my time and money being milked.

they said no lootboxes, but well they call them surprise mechaniocs now , so its probably gonna be surprise

"There are no Lootboxes in NFS Heat and there won’t be.”
....
"We plan to have post launch paid-DLC in the form of car packs. Later this year we’ll introduce a time-save pack, which will show all collectables on the map. That’s it”
..
What we can confirm is that customisation options are earned through the completion of in-game events. For example, you spot a street race on your map and notice it has a new performance part up for grabs. Win the race, win the part. Speed cards from NFS Payback are go

I don't even want to start saying what I think about a game offering DLC that is labelled as "buy this to not have your time wasted".
But Microsoft and Ubi are doing this nonsense since forever. So shout out to them as well.

For the rest, hard to believe there will be no XP boosts, skins or other nonsense but if they say so...
I'll keep an eye on the game. Interest went up to zero.one

The last Need for Speed game I played was Carbon. Carbon was amazing. The visual design was stellar, and the game had this compelling sense of style which extended to the slightly tongue in cheek SUPER CEREAL story of people driving cars really fast because... reasons.

To that end, I feel like this game is going for some kind of RISE UP vibe akin to a more recent Ubisoft game in the vein of Watch Dogs 2, which IMHO doesn't really gel with the fundamentally irresponsible and dangerous nature of driving cars really fast through city streets. Trying to paint street racer as the good guys battling THE SYSTEM... is subject matter that I guess some people find really feelgood, but I can't say I buy it tonally.

I actually like that kind of vibe. I even think it's important for art to take a stance and to be used as a mirror for society and to make us think. This includes video games, because art is art imo.

But even I have to admit. It's strange to have the surpresed drive around in luxurious, modified and expansive cars.

Unluckily, it really doesn't fit well.

Saw this review/breakdown of the game. Thought it was interesting. It sounds like the game has some balancing issues it needs to iron out.
