Living Ship Update - No Man's Sky

Inspired by the adventure and imagination that we love from classic science-fiction, No Man's Sky presents you with a galaxy to explore, filled with unique planets and lifeforms, and constant danger and action.

In No Man's Sky, every star is the light of a distant sun, each orbited by planets filled with life, and you can go to any of them you choose. Fly smoothly from deep space to planetary surfaces, with no loading screens, and no limits. In this infinite procedurally generated universe, you'll discover places and creatures that no other players have seen before - and perhaps never will again.

Embark on an epic voyage
At the centre of the galaxy lies a irresistible pulse which draws you on a journey towards it to learn the true nature of the cosmos. But, facing hostile creatures and fierce pirates, you'll know that death comes at a cost, and survival will be down to the choices you make over how you upgrade your ship, your weapon and suit.

Find your own destiny
Your voyage through No Man's Sky is up to you. Will you be a fighter, preying on the weak and taking their riches, or taking out pirates for their bounties? Power is yours if you upgrade your ship for speed and weaponry.

Or a trader? Find rich resources on forgotten worlds and exploit them for the highest prices. Invest in more cargo space and you'll reap huge rewards.

Or perhaps an explorer? Go beyond the known frontier and discover places and things that no one has ever seen before. Upgrade your engines to jump ever farther, and strengthen your suit for survival in toxic environments that would kill the unwary.

Share your journey
The galaxy is a living, breathing place. Trade convoys travel between stars, factions vie for territory, pirates hunt the unwary, and the police are ever watching. Every other player lives in the same galaxy, and you can choose to share your discoveries with them on a map that spans known space. Perhaps you will see the results of their actions as well as your own...

Now including...
Play with all 8 major updates since launch: Foundation, Pathfinder, Atlas Rises, NEXT, The Abyss, Visions, the 2.0 BEYOND update and Synthesis.

An epic voyage to the centre of a shared universe awaits, allowing you to explore, trade, fight and survive alone or with friends.

The Foundation Update brings base building and more to No Man's Sky. It is the foundation of things to come

Update 1.3, Atlas Rises, brings a brand new and overhauled central storyline, portals, a new procedural mission system, trade improvements, system economies, joint exploration and more.
#AtlasRises introduces terrain editing - let's see some of your creations!
#AtlasRises introduces system specific wealth, economy and conflict levels, and an overhauled galactic map.

It's been installed on my machine since pre-launch, lol. I'll leave it alone for months and then play it solidly for a few weeks.
I'd say it's a case-study in how to turn your game around from villainous meme to respected elder.

I play it solo/offline usually listening to Astronomy/Space Science podcasts. That soundtrack tho, 64daysofstatic did a stellar job there.

the NMS comunity is fascinating
The Galactic Hub began as a humble project to catalogue everything—every planet, moon, plant, and animal—in a small sector of space. Created by a player known as 7101334 (or 710 for short) in 2016, it soon grew to define how No Man's Sky would be played. The Galactic Hub became a civilization inside of the galaxy of No Man's Sky, with players creating communal farms to share wealth, creating their own holidays and symbols. As the Hub grew in popularity, more civilizations followed in its wake, eventually leading to the creation of the United Federation Of Travelers, a kind of Space UN meant to resolve differences between civilizations
...
What May has proposed is a mapped chain of systems that serves as a pathway from the center of the galaxy to the Galactic Hub... May's Warpway uses systems with black holes in them allows players to easily follow this linked chain without having to use an outside reference.
...
What's most fascinating about the Hub and its related organizations as an observer is watching them re-invent civilizations inside of No Man's Sky. They have wars, police forces, debates over urbanization, they spy on each other, and even have car shows. What the Warpway is bringing to The Galactic Hub are the politics of the railroad, with May as a railroad baron bringing change to a community that doesn't necessarily want it.

From 7101334's perspective, by encouraging players to explore, settle and build along the Warpway, the Warpway becomes a civilization in its own right. May's promotion of it in the Galactic Hub is an attempt to poach players away from the Hub to ensure his civilization's survival. Beyond that, 7101334 is just doubtful that the Warpway is a viable concept for a civilization inside No Man's Sky.
..
"I've always developed the Hub with the specific vision of a quasi-scientific documentation community first and foremost, with out-of-simulation social aspects," 7101334 said. "But the Hub has been the galaxy's de-facto social hotspot for many update cycles, and while it was an honor and a ton of fun, it was never what we were about. We're space-scientists, farmers, and architects, and if growing specifically in that direction dampens 'gross growth,' I'm perfectly happy with tha

This is me running to get a better view of the Normandy after completing Expeditions 2 at 02:00am on the last day.
No Man's sky has changed massively since i started playing at launch yet it didn't take me that long to get back into the swing of things after my ~18 month break. It's also nice that those of us who were there from the start can use the "Iteration 1.0" title on our accounts.

I'll definitely be putting aside more podcasts so i can have an excuse to schedule in some regular NMS Time especially with the new Prisms Update on the horizon. I do miss the early days but as i don't bother with base building i just warp my fleet around exploring the universe like a real space nomad. I couldn't even tell you where my obligatory base is built it's that far behind me now.
