Didn't know that THQ Nordic holds the right of Kingdom of Amalur.

I wonder if this will be free for current owners or paid upgrade

I'm betting it will be. They did the same for Red Faction: Guerilla - Re-Mars-tered and the Darksiders remasters.

I didn't hate Amalur, it wasn't amazing but there's a decent game there. I can't remember exact points but i remember thinking it was much better than i expected espcially given the turmoil going on.

I might spin it up on my Origin account when i finish Andromeda again.

It was alright really.

But all I can remember was the combat, like every quest involved killing something.
But it's been a while so maybe I'm mis-remembering.

Nope, you're right. I had a big comment ready to post and then chopped out all of it. There was definitely a feel that there was supposed to be a little more depth or complexity to things, that they had to cut steps out of quests and simplify some of them just to get it out the door.

The world was big enough, the designs were ok if a bit generic at times, music was fine, folklore and world were interesting if a bit familiar, combat felt ok but got much less repetitive when i realised i wasn't using my rage/powers at all and started popping them off more often.

Much better than i expected and i finished it twice. Once on 360 and again on Origin when they had a sale on years ago.

Be pretty surprised if they gave it away as a free upgrade due to the completely different ownership now. Assuming Timmy doesn't hoover it up for his remake store. The original is still sold and published by EA and probably the state of Rhode Island.

This is the game that that POS Curt Schilling created a game development company for and it went belly-under? Not sure if I want to support.
If it makes you feel any better, he doesn't get any money from this one, or the original for that matter.

Will you rebalance the game or "only" focus on delivering a remaster as close to the original game as possible?

We are still working on this but we are aware of some imbalances and want to fix those.

What exactly does "refined gameplay" mean?

Mostly balancing tweaks to make the game ‘feel’ better.

Will old save games work?

There might be a use at your own risk converter tool but we cannot promise anything yet.

Will the graphics simply be upscaled or otherwise improved?

We have retouched all textures and improved the rendering engine.

Will there be ultrawide support or an FoV slider?

Both, yes.

Nothing about an upgrade path then. Does sound like a significant rework, so that's neat. I quite liked the original, so I can see myself getting into this one again.
