I love slow, methodical, tactical, single player/co-op games of the early Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon and SWAT series mold &Ready or Not is looking damn promising after this new trailer which shows off many of the already implemented and planned features that make this so different to your average FPS:

Sadly, only the alpha is set for this year and the beta for next year so I guess we'll keep waiting. I hope the alpha's gonna be decent on its own, more fulfilling than the alphas of stuff like Onward VR that I do play but wish there was something more complete around instead. Still, with all the shit shown here I'm more convinced than ever that they can do this legacy justice, though I won't be pre-ordering or anything, we'll see when the alpha actually launches and if people I can trust their opinion find enough value in it to buy it for more reasons than supporting them. That is, ideally lacking in content more than in quality.

Edit: just saw the price for alpha access. NOPE! Not happening in my case, that's a crazy amount. But at least it's made clear that it's just for super support and not with meaningful cool stuff others who eventually buy the base game will miss out on. So that's good, I'd hate pre-order DLC shenanigans beyond some cosmetic gun skins. I guess I'll have to wait for 2020's beta to buy in if reports by then are that it's as worthwhile as it is promising!

Yeah I just saw that. They also say it gives 25% discount for the first expansion but come on. It should include it (and another!) for free tbh. The normal edition with beta access is like 36 euros (vs 110), 25% off a similarly priced expansion with unknown content (never mind base game content) is hardly worth mentioning.

At least the base edition is priced nicely and by the time the beta comes along there will be enough impressions around. Anyway, suspect monetizing aside it looks really promising after that lengthy trailer. It's not like there are alternatives that will be releasing sooner than that so, waiting to see is the only choice...

yeah ... what the hell are they even doing ... damn

For another SWAT/Rainbow Six-like game, with a much cheaper price, there's Ground Branch, which is in early access in Steam. Haven't tried it tho.

EDIT: Ready or Not looks fantastic, but goddamn that price point.

I actually pre-ordered this a week ago from their site after months of not knowing if it was a Steam key or not. While I agree it is expensive, I've waited too long for a new game like this (Pre-ordered Takedown: Red Sabre also, what a fucking shit show!).

I've been keeping an eye on it. SWAT 4 is a phenomenal co-op game, and I hope this can live up to it. Rules of engagement are very important to me, and is a large part of what really elevates SWAT for me. It looks like it's there in Ready or Not.

Looks like this is going to be one of those in-development for the next however many years games like Escape from Tarkov.

I'm fine with that, and they do seem to have realistic timelines for things. Now if it becomes a Interstellar Marines and it literally doesn't release for nearly DNF levels of time, then I'd be worried.

Oh I didn't mean that as a negative by any means, just seems like it's a more viable way to release these days. Especially when your game serves a small niche.

One of the developers of Swat 4 Elite Force has left the Ready or Not team. His tweet chain is a bit concerning. Pay issues, management issues, management refusing to listen to any feedback, treating contractors badly, etc.

Well, now I'm glad I never really got my hopes up that high / got super hyped due to how slow they released information in the past. I'm excited for a SWAT4 successor, but I've seen sooo little of the game, I don't even know in which state it is, right now. Curious how it will continue :)

Maybe this will get a boost if RON goes under. They posted a nice update yesterday.

That looks like it scratches the R6/GR itch that ubisoft long left behind but doesn't look like it will have the same non-lethal tactics and smaller scale that SWAT4 aimed for. looks at dev name Wait, that game still isn't out? Oh man. Well it's better late than Ubi

Man what’s with abuse of game devs recently, or are game devs finally opening up about it?

There seems to be a lot of exasperating circumstances on this one, and seemingly he agreed to working as a contractor. I have a friend who was also screwed out of thousands of dollars by agreeing to work as a contractor (illegally - that is the schedule and stuff violated what constituted legit contractor work and the employer should have had to given him benefits).
