Humanity is under siege as the full force of Mental’s hordes spread across the world, ravaging what remains of a broken and beaten civilization. The last remaining resistance to the invasion is the Earth Defense Force led by Sam “Serious” Stone and his heavily-armed squad of misfit commandos.

Croteam returns with a high-powered prequel to the Serious Sam series that scales up chaos to unprecedented levels. The classic Serious Sam formula is revamped by putting an unstoppable arsenal up against an unimaginable number of enemies that requires players to circle-strafe and backpedal-blast their way out of impossible situations.

Popemobile

HORDES OF INVADERS –

The iconic cast of alien invaders returns with some new reinforcements! Fight your way through unbelievable numbers of Mental’s minions, including the iconic Headless Kamikaze, Beheaded Rocketeer, Kleer, Scrapjack, Werebull, and Khnum! Square off against brand new enemies and towering monsters like the frantic Processed, repulsive Belcher, the hard-hitting Zealot, and more.

EXPLOSIVE ARSENAL –

Armed with a slew of devastating weapons, pick your tool for any situation. Lay waste to Mental’s Horde using the powerful double-barreled shotgun, the punishing minigun, the powerful chainsaw launcher, a brand new auto shotgun, and the iconic cannon. Upgrade your toys, and enjoy the violent beauty of the lock-on rocket launcher, and the mighty laser beam of death.

we have also added some new features,

weapon upgrades (change how weapons fire and other things

you will be able to find in the world by completing some optional missions, you will be able to find some cool weapon upgrades, which will change the way you play. ,

we now have duel-wielding

you can do it with any two weapons. You can imagine yourself with a rocket launcher and a mini-gun, or even better two mini-guns, so you can shoot everything.

you can also get a mini nuke and a gadget that creates a black hole

some of you maybe worried or concerned about a skill upgrade system and special gadgets like nukes and black hole, what i can say is the game wasnt balanced around those, they are basically add ons that will give you the extra curve

COOPERATIVE MAYHEM –

Smash through the action-packed campaign with friends in 4-player online co-op mode! Tackle exciting primary missions and thrilling side quests in modified difficulties for an extra challenge.

LEGION SYSTEM –
Serious Sam 4 unleashes some of the biggest moments in the series’ history with the new Legion System and battlefields teeming with thousands of enemies!
the legion system is basically used for moments to really show monsters/aliens invading earth and putting you into a scenario that rides with the overwhelming factor see below for a short video on it

Thanks for the thread!

Currently finishing up my second playthrough of SS3 in preparation for SS4. (first was one was back in 2011).

  • Harpies are underutilized in SS3.
  • The Kleer SFXs have been nerfed. Not sure why they did this, especially considering how many of them you fight in the last few missions. You barely hear them coming in SS3.
  • Not a fan of the "infested" chopper, but the devastator makes it easy to quickly get rid of them.
  • Really boring levels. You're essentially fighting in the same bland environments that are introduced in the first 3 missions for the eternity of the game.

alright so far, the game start getting serious from chapter 5 and onward. 4 first chapters are a ... huh kinda discombobulated mess if I'm being honest lol, weird kinda pacing even as far as introduction chapters goes and graphically kinda inequal. However chapter 4 introduces something funny gameplay wise, and chapter 5 is just good old Serious Sam madness with those after being even madder than all we ever had in the franchise

Be patient, it will pay off

JFC so I remember telling myself earlier this year "yeah Doom Eternal honestly has some of the most intense stuff in any fps" and was legit impressed by the enemy density in the later levels

and SS 4 just completely obliterated that impression XD

its very reminescent of Dead Space 2 in a sense, where like up to a certain key point of the story the game holds back.

and so in this, at halfway through when the whole "point" of the game is set up in the story, it becomes utterly insane. There's no other word possible lol

Also for all that talk around how it doesn't really look good, if you customize the graphics and crank everything up it looks stupid good considering the sheer madness of the scale

Yeah, so, the last part of the game (4 last levels) is utterly brilliant. I feel like this game is actually two different projects that got stitched together around cinematics because there's definitely something you can feel on that end (and how planet badass was supposed to be a thing to begin with). In fact if you just listen interviews from croteam its what makes the most sense, especially the one where they say that Talos Principle happened by accident, they were toying with how to make puzzles fun in Sam 4 and it became a full game.

Like there's that aspect in the first 30% or so of the game, then its the open world part of planet badass or what it would have been (im personally glad it got scratched lol, its the weakest bit of the game by far), and then the last 4 levels where they probably reminded themselves that Sam just needs to be utterly insane in terms of combat intensity

The very very very last level is something unseen anywhere btw, it is beyond glorious and puts every single fps level released in any of them these last 5 - 8 years to sleep without even forcing

Im just wondering why on earth didnt they build up something more coherent akin to that last level with less chapters, like Doom Eternal is a 5 / 6 hours long game at most and its perfectly fine but it keeps throwing a coherent vision to the player while never really holding back on the intensity

Thats what Sam 4 should have been imho, just more of the 4 last levels, but as a 8 - 9 levels romp. Gonna totally replay it in coop

huge patch

What's new?
  • By popular demand, and totally not because we messed up, the game will now save your inventory in your profile upon finishing a level in co-op. This means you can now continue your playthrough without losing all your stuff. Keep in mind that using cheats will prevent the inventory from saving.
  • The "show weapon wheel" and "select last weapon" functions can now be bound to the same button, with the weapon wheel being shown upon holding the button.
  • The vast emptiness of the France level has been filled up. Find the filling, and kill it. Let us know how you did.
  • You can now press the weapon wheel button shortly to switch to your last weapon. Holding it will still show the weapon wheel.
  • You can now customize your game difficulty by adjusting the enemy multiplier.

Stability and performance:
  • Fixed an issue where the game would sometimes crash during longer Netricsa browsing sessions.
  • Fixed a rare issue where some supported GPUs would be marked as unsupported by mistake.
  • Various smaller performance and stability tweaks and fixes across GPU APIs.

Gameplay fixes and changes:
  • Fixed an issue where specific Netricsa messages would not show up when intended.
  • Pyro now has fire coming out of his flamethrower. He sent his original one for replacing. It was obviously broken.
  • Piercing weapons will now actually pierce enemies when you shoot them from close range, and not fly out randomly.
  • We have bought a new Grenade launcher for Sam. This new model can shoot continuously if you keep the LMB pressed.
  • Enemies will no longer start to moonwalk after you shoot them from close range. They will die as all things should.
  • Do you remember how big enemies outside of the black hole don't explode when killed? Well, they do now.
  • You can now use your finishing moves on Harpies as well.

Visual fixes and changes:
  • The default color settings have been tweaked to liven things up. If you wish to adjust them further, please use the Color Options menu.
  • Sam's sprinting animation will no longer be activated randomly with the Born to Run skill unlocked.
  • The Volcano on Gates of Hell finally erupted. It has particles and all.
  • The ol' Tractor now has a moving wheel. It's crazy, I know.
  • Various tweaks of the third person melee attacks.
  • The laser now has a slightly improved secondary fire animation.
  • Fixed issues with some Processed, Gnaar, and Beheaded melee finishing animations.
  • Pyro will no longer do the Vogue T-Pose in the air when damaged. We don't like dancers.

Other changes:
  • Asian languages now have proper word wrapping.
  • Various localization fixes for all languages. This is still work in progress, so you are more than welcome to report remaining issues with subtitles and/or menu strings.

Haha, yeah, watched him & Dave Oshry play the game co-op about a week ago. Honestly, it's a big set up over SS3. I never once felt bored during my playthrough and they actually put some thought in the enemy placement this time. None of that "we're gonna give you so many Kleers just to piss you off" moments. Even though you have repeating models in the finale, the sheer number of NPCs on screen is just amazing.

And dual wielding mini-guns. Shit accuracy, but so much fun.
