So, I recently started this. It's really challenging so far!
For you who have played it, what would you say is the best approach in the beginning?

  • Upgrading the Chevrolet CK1500 to be better offroad, and using it to go scout missions and watchtowers?
  • Leaving the GMC MH9500 in the garage? I mean, what is it good for when it barely can handle off road?
  • Is it worth to upgrade the tires between the different versions? UHD I vs UHD II I mean. The stats show no difference, but Google seems to confirm that there is a certain difference.
  • I fitted the Fleetstar F2070A with a flatbed, thinking it would be better to haul goods directly on the truck than lugging around a trailer

The log missions suck butt since crane usage is worse than prev games.

For what to do? That is up to you. I pretty much dumped the POS pickup truck asap. I tend to use the fleetstar 2070A and the internationl (no diff or awd but its beastly). I only have 50+ hours in the game. The tires have small differences, I tend to go for the mud/or tires. I would find a different scout. I used the Scout 800 (nice but top heavy so tipping often - autonomous winch says hello). then I moved to the Khan Marshall as I have the DLC.

The attachments (frame addons) you buy for a truck are perma and you can switch between them in the garage. I dunno if trucks share them, if same class maybe.

So, I've explored most of Black River, unlocked all the watchtowers, collected all the upgrades and recovered all the vehicles. Fixed all the road blocks and what have you and done a few tasks as well.

Currently looking at really starting with the contracts, but felt I needed to map out Smithville dam first, so took my trusty Chevrolet CK1500 and a fuel trailer over there, and started checking out the watch towers. Already fixed the first road block as well there.

Really loving the game so far! It's slow and a bit difficult at times, but really rewarding!

I need to vent a bit...

Regarding the Not a Drill contract. What a slog!

First time, I did the first 2 deliveries, then stuck the Construction rig trailer in a place where it was totally impossible to get it out.

Restarted the contract, decided to move the large trailer first to make it easier to restart if needed.
After several restarts where I figured out the way to move it all the way to the drill location, I parked it, ready for delivery and did the 2 other deliveries.

When I backed up to attach the large trailer, I noticed that the new drill building had been built exactly where the construction rig trailer was parked, so the trailer itself had glitches through the building and was totally unsalvageable. Even with winches and cranes.

So I had to restart the contract for hopefully the final time, this time taking the construction rig trailer again first, But parking it further away from the new building...

Update!

I nailed it! 😀
This time I managed all the deliveries for Not a Drill.
The damned construction rig trailer only took about 20 minutes to deliver when I knew exactly how to handle it and where to safely park it.

Time to clean up a few tasks in Black River and then start the next contract! 😀

So, I'm slowly wrapping up Black River, having already done quite a few tasks and contracts in the other Michigan areas as well.
And what do you know, when I'm pretty much getting ready to leave, I find the shortcut between the drill site and the sawmill which would have made some earlier missions a lot easier.... Typical.
