Opinion Statistics from Steam Badges

Teased this project back in may at discord. here it is.
So a while back (end of 2014) I made little crawler for badges.
It was originally ran from there until end of 2015 until server provider kicked me out for using "too much resources".
Around year ago, I restarted the project.

Website might appear in future. Currently data collected ~ every two weeks.

Here's some picks.

Grandprix

Years of Service

This gives us accesses to total number of accounts older than one year (that is eligible for badge).

That is 40 million new accounts made approx. 7/2017 - 7/2018.
For total of 200 million accounts older than one year.

Game Collector Badge

This gives us access to how many paid games users on average own (excluding games that don't count towards the badge).

177m users own at least one paid game.
43m users own only one paid game.

Very few users own large number of games:

less than 10 million own more than 71 games.
less than 1 million own more than 350 games.
about 100 000 own more than 1000 games.
about 9 000 users own 9 000 or more games.

Theory

SUM of every (games count * users on level) = total number of games sold

up to level 323 (so everyone owning more than 323 counts to own 323)

that's approx 2 880 000 000 games.

The little blips at 3 and 8 years long service are interesting. I wonder what the cause is? I suspect either a massive game launched the year previous or some decision by steam to clear fake accounts.

Portal 2, Terraria, Batman Arkham City, Saints Row 3, Modern Warfare 3, Dead Island, Rage, Deus Ex and Skyrim were all 2011 games that required Steam. (at least I think so?) 2011 was massive.

Also everyone who bought Portal 2 on PS3 got a free PC copy. Plus you could also link your PS3 account to Steam. Which was a pretty big deal.

Me and all of my real life friends have 8 year badges right now, Ill personally be moved to 9 later this month but everyone else made their accounts in 2011.
