I've only seen Black Panther... :confused-face:

Although I'm looking forward to The Favourite, BlacKkKlansman and A Star Is Born in Blu Ray. And I'll watch Roma someday, it's at the top of my Netflix list!

That's great that Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse is nominated for Best Animated Picture, but I have a feeling that either Incredibles 2 or Wreck-It Ralph: Breaks the Internet. will take it.

I wanna be super wrong on this, but another thing that can happen is that neither Sony or Disney win this category & it goes to Isle of Dogs. Anything can happen in this category which I am extremely interested.

Mirai is an animated film I have not heard about. I may actually check on that one when I can find it.

I haven't seen that many 2018 movies, but I am surprised by a few things that I'd consider snubs or "bad" picks. In no particular order:
  • Absolutely no Blindspotting, Widows, Sorry to Bother You, Boy Erased or Eighth Grade nominations is really quite shocking.
  • No nominations for Paddington 2 or Leave No Trace, two of the highest rated movies of the year, and the two most reviewed movies to ever retain a 100% RT score is mildly weird.
  • Won’t You Be My Neighbor? seemed like a lock for Best Doc category, even if a better doc might win.
  • Considering some of the other questionable box-office hits that made it into Best Picture, Crazy Rich Asians' absence is a little surprising.
  • No If Beale Street Could Talk for Best Picture is also mildly surprising.
  • I'm not surprised it didn't make it, but I am bummed that Annihilation got nothing, not even something for it's audio or visuals.
  • No Into the Spider-Verse for Best Picture is entirely expected, but still annoying.
  • The entire Best Picture category is surprising and IMO, bad. I guess we needed a Best Blockbuster category or something similar after all.
  • No Ethan Hawke for First Reformed is a travesty.
Once I go finish some work and wash the salt out of my mouth, I'll write about which nominees I'm happy about.

I had some time to marinate and flush some salt out of my system, so I'll try to think of some positives:

  • I haven't seen it yet, but a new Mamoru Hosoda flick (Mirai) getting a nomination for Best Animated is super awesome.
  • Into the Spider-Verse at least getting a Best Animated nomination is also super great.
  • Wish it had gotten more nods, but Sound Editing is at least something worthwhile for A Quiet Place, which I loved.
  • Capernaum is an amazing nominee for Best Foreign Language Film.
  • I love Kore-eda, so even though I haven't seen it Shoplifters is also another nice pick.
