They Are Billions is a strategy game in a distant future about building and managing human colonies after a zombie apocalypse destroyed almost all of human kind. Now there are only a few thousand humans left alive that must struggle to survive under the threat of the infection. Billions of infected roam around the world in massive swarms seeking the last living human colonies.

Survival Mode - Available Now!

In this mode, a random world is generated with its own events, weather, geography, and infected population. You must build a successful colony that must survive for a specific period of time against the swarms of infected. It is a fast and ultra addictive game mode. We plan to release a challenge of the week where all players must play the same random map. The best scores will be published in a leaderboard.

Real Time with Pause

This is a real-time strategy game, but don’t get too nervous. You can pause the action to take the best strategic and tactical decisions.
In Pause Mode, you can place structures to build, give orders to your army, or consult all of the game’s information.
This game is all about strategy, not player performance or the player’s skill to memorize and quickly execute dozens of key commands. Pause the game and take all the time you need!

Build your Colony

Build dwellings and acquire food for the colonists. They will come to live and work for the colony.
Collect resources from the environment using various building structures. Upgrade buildings to make them more efficient.
Expand the energy distribution of the colony by placing Tesla Towers and build mills and power plants to feed the energy to your buildings.
Build walls, gates, towers, and structures to watch the surroundings. Don’t let the infected take over the colony!

Build an Army

What kind of people would want to combat the infected?
Only the maddest ones. Train and contract mercenaries to protect the colony. They demand their money and food, and you will have to listen to their awful comments, but these tormented heroes will be your best weapon to destroy the infected.
Every unit is unique and has their own skills and personality – discover them!

Thousands of Units on Screen

Yes! They are billions! The world is full of infected creatures… they roam, smell, and listen. Every one of them has their own AI. Make noise and they will come – kill some of them to access an oil deposit and hundred of them will come to investigate.
We have created our custom engine to handle hordes of thousands of the infected, up to 20,000 units in real time.
Do you think your colony is safe? Wait for the swarms of thousands of infected that are roaming the world. Sometimes your colony is in their path!

Prevent the Infection

If just one of the infected breaks into a building, all the colonies and workers inside will become infected. The infected workers will then run rabid to infect more buildings. Infections must be eradicated from the beginning, otherwise, it will grow exponentially becoming impossible to contain.

Beautiful 4K Graphics!

Prepare to enjoy these ultra high definition graphics. Our artists have created tons of art pieces: Beautiful buildings with their own animations, thousands of frames of animation to get the smoothest movements and everything with a crazy Steampunk and Victorian style!

Campaign

In the campaign mode, you have to help the surviving humans to reconquer their country. There are dozens of missions with different goals: building colonies, tactical missions, rescue missions... You can decide the path of progress and mission - research new technologies, advances and upgrades to improve your colonies and army.

At last! The highly anticipated They Are Billions Campaign will be available on June 18th. Here at Numantian, we recommend that you ask your boss for at least one month off. That’s because, and you are being warned, the campaign is addictive - really addictive. Check out the teaser trailer of The New Empire. We hope you enjoy it!

The campaign will, of course be included free with the current game, and also it will be available in the 12 languages currently supported by They Are Billions.

The Campaign will finally have 48 missions, 23 of which are about building colonies, 15 about attacking swarms of infected and 10 will be tactical missions. As it happened to us with Lords of Xulima, the duration of the final game is much longer than we had anticipated as, according to our testers, it can take between 60 to 80 hours to complete it !?!

To finish the campaign it will only be necessary to build the 23 colonies. The rest of the missions are all optional, but surely you will need to play them to advance in the technology tree, and destroy the swarms that block the routes to new territories.

It is a long campaign but also very diverse, the tactical missions will specially bring a very different touch to the game. Testers’ recurring comment is that we could have created a completely new game just with them. We hope they’ll enrich the gameplay experience and will also help bring lore to the story behind They Are Billions. Something that testers also appreciate is that in these missions you can finally enjoy the graphics and animations of the zombies up close, compared to the zoomed out way you normally play in the colony mode.

Wow, this looks fun. That red barrel gif was so satisfying. Not sure if I want to buy into the early access as it is now, but it's definitely going on my wish list. Thanks!!

I HAVE BEEN PLAYING THIS GAME SINCE DECEMBER 2017 AND IT IS A 10/10 WITH THE SURVIVAL MODE ALONE BUY THIS GAME NOW IF YOU LIKE RTS GAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In all seriousness, I follow/frequently interact with the folks who run the Wayward Strategy page

If you are big on RTS games like me, read that blog. And you're welcome.

They discuss in depth how the design of strategy games from the past and present and how one can avoid or ends up in, stagnancy.

They Are Billions may not necessarily be a full evolution of strategy by adding a survival element against the enemy, the terrain, and the bloat of your own economy, but goodness gracious do all of those elements blend in perfectly.

It's one of those games, like Black Mesa, where I'm like "just finish the game so I can give you a 10."
Triple (merged) post:

The game's learning curve isn't huge, but it is fierce.

Like, you're gonna die, because you gotta learn pacing, and how to "check your six" so to speak.

There is a pause button, so even if your APMs are poor, even a turn-based strategist can play this....they'll just play more slowly.

Forreal. Pause button is an accessibility option that, while I usually thumb my nose at accessibility, can change the landscape of RTS games.
Quad post:

I'm already rolling my eyes at other review outlets that will have their reviews out same-day, even though the campaign is allegedly RPG-length.

I am proud that we publish when we're actually finished with the game.

Haven't bought because of early access, but will get at release. That campaign far surpasses what I thought they would do, glad it looks like a lot of effort went into it.

Basically this. Heard about this on a podcast (Idle Thumbs I think) and it sounded intriguing then, but this campaign makes it even more tempting.

I've clocked 162 hours already.
Damn! I'm around half that and I never even remotely finished the hard maps.

It's one of the rare games where I don't mind playing for hours only to get completely stomped for a small error. Usually that would be a no-return for me but I kind of enjoy watching it all go to hell.

THere was a phase of two months where I always played the weeklies. I won the temperate maps most of the time, the snow map all the time (units move more slowly), and the desert map, WHEW! That's a toughie.

Then they added the super zombies. Holy moly!!!

I'll pick this up sometime this year. I've been waiting until it left Early Access.

This also means Lords of Xulima 2 can be given full attention!

The campaign is really cool and it's obvious that they put in a lot of effort, but they really need to stop being stubborn about "pixel hunting" being a legitimate difficulty element.

What do you mean? Not catching that one single zombie who sets off a chain of wrecking your colony?
There's hero missions where you need to scavenge with limited units, where your objective is to farm for loots that boost your campaign strength. Unfortunately the loots are given no visual indicator at all and blend in completely with the background - making for super frustrating experience that not even old-school adventure games can match.
