Square Enix has announced Trials of Mana, a remake of Seiken Densetsu 3 for PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC. It will launch in early 2020.

Trials of Mana is a full high definition remake of the third entry in the Mana series, previously exclusively released in Japan in 1995 as Seiken Densetsu 3. Trials of Mana tells the story of six heroes as they battle against the monsters of destruction that threaten a world where Mana has been weakened. Players can customize their own party of three, selected from six unique characters, to experience different stories.

Story

When the world was shrouded in darkness, the Goddess of Mana drew forth the Sword of Mana to smite the eight Benevodons, monsters of destruction.

She sealed the horrors inside the eight Mana Stones, bringing the realm back from the brink.

Weakened from rebuilding the world, the Goddess changed herself into a tree and fell into a deep sleep for many years.

However, the forces of evil soon sought to free the Benevodons to gain control of the world.

They started a terrible war to further their plot and destabilize the kingdoms.

Peace was at an end. Mana itself began to disappear from the world and the Mana Tree started to wither…

I am so unbelievably excited for this game, remember trying to play it with a friend over the internet over a decade ago and getting desync'd constantly therefore having to play it on my lonesome.
Having multiple characters with different plotlines is a great concept, and the combat is really fun. Hopefully this remake can improve and surpass the original.

That's what I'm talking about, gameplay!
  • It looks great and true to the original artstyle
  • There are still textures streaming and LOD aren't great
  • Combat and exploration looks good and quite fast
  • The camera is a bit wonky, especially in the boss fight
There were times when the camera automatically zoomed out, and I wish you switch and play with that camera instead. Overall, it looks better than I expected.

This looks nice, but I've never played this series before. Already own Secret of Mana on Steam and SNES Classic, so I could start with that one.

Finished the game, it's an okay game but it drags, a lot. I'm half way through new game+ thinking I'll just speed through the rest of the achievements but nah I think I'm done.

The game can be fun at times but the combat and classes aren't interesting enough to be dragged into a 20hour+ game, the worst thing is that the first 10 or so hours were a slog because you start with basic classes, tons of backtracking, then when it's supposed to get interesting they locked the classes behind fucking item drops, even switching between the three characters got old very fast, by the time you unlock the 3rd classes you're almost done with the game. Then you have post game which was just one giant dungeon that goes on forever, by the time you reach the boss the thing dies in a minute.

Clocked about 25hours and honestly it felt like I've played 90. Decent game but just way too slow.
