Been out all night so I just got around to doing some testing on my own. Decided to give lossless scaling a try at 720p scaled 2x and see if I could spot the difference vs running it borderless at 1440p.
Here's some of my findings (you'll probably need a 1440p monitor or higher and open the image full screen in your browser to notice)

Apologies for not being able to get exact 1-1 screen comparisons, but even by the screenshots, at least on my monitor, you can already tell the text is substantially better (not perfect, but definitely more legible) and while the CG screenshots are virtually the same, the 3D backgrounds themselves look a bit better with the aliasing after the scaling.
If you'd like me to take some more screenshots let me know, though I've been busy with work and family birthday so I might not get around to it till this weekend.
