New week, new thread! What are you playing?

I am flabbergasted because of Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout. During the last 5 years I have seen countless fan arts and discussions of this game's protagonist Ryza due to her "gifted" appearance, but being a cynical gamer I was indifferent towards her, or this game's, popularity. Then, here I am, bought the game on Jan 1st but already put 20 hours into it over the last few days. Atelier Ryza is a fun, chill and laid-back JRPG in the age where even Tales of game tries too hard to be "serious".

The game is beautiful to look at with a colorful artstyle and vivid cast of characters. I spent a lot of time in the photo mode, trying to capture some beautiful moments during the adventure.

In respect of story and writing, the writing is honestly mediocre at best, boring at worst during my limited time with the game, but it feels grounded, wholesome and totally in tone with the relaxing vibe of the game. The story is obviously no Xenoblade or Nier, yet there are still intriguing moments when the characters discussed about the lost kingdom and island traditions. I did research and was surprised to find out that this game was written by Yashichiro Takahashi, a lightnovel writer behind the series Shakugan no Shana. I regard the old-school era of lightnovel much higher than present times (before all the isekai garbage flooding the market) so I am looking forward to seeing how he developed the story of Ryza across the three games.

Regarding the gameplay, ATB is not my favorite combat system but I am enjoying the speed and real-time decision making. Boss battle (only fought one so far) and elite enemy battles are surprisingly challenging. I have already got the party wiped for a few times during the journey. On the other hand, due to a lack of time limit, the crafting feels too lenient at times, I am looking for a fun and relaxing time in this game so I don't mind it too much, but I am interested in checking out older Atelier entries where time limit was in place.

Overall I really like Atelier Ryza. It is not a groundbreaking JRPG masterpiece, but I enjoy every single second in the game. As a side note, it singlehandedly convinced me to not upgrade my PC for now because, damn, it looks gorgeous on screen and there are still so many Atelier games out there. A new one is also coming in March and I highly doubt that my PC cannot run it smoothly. I can't wait to dive in further into the series in 2025!

I played through Outer Wilds - really great experience, though it can get a bit annoying if you're at a point where you just don't know what you're supposed to be doing next. The first time you experience a new planet is an absolutely magical experience though.

Also finished the first case of Great Ace Attorney. That was a very fun start.

Also finished the newest Genshin main story. I have very complicated feeling about it, lol. The spectacle is crazy and it has some fantastic moments, but overall does leave me a bit wanting. It really doesn't help that the ongoing issues with the EN VAs cause of the strike also make many scenes lose impact to the point where I feel like it's getting really hard to differentiate between what issues I have because of the actual story and the production issues surrounding it. Sucks enough that I'm finally contemplating switching dubs until this is resolved for good (and because Lantern Rite in a couple weeks is gonna be a graveyard of missing EN voices too...).
New character quests are still fantastic though and I still need to check out the new permanent Rhythm Game mode.

Also started Judgment. It feels more Yakuza than I expected, but perhaps that shouldn't have been surprising.

I discovered so many grammar mistake or weird sentences in the OP. Sorry Ryza I should have proof-read.

Also, after watching the trailers of the upcoming Atelier game, Atelier Yumia. I think it is trying to be serious in tone. Shouldn't have included the jab against Tales of Arise in the OP. :censored:
I'm playing Eastshade as I needed a relaxing game
I saw your shots on steam. Very nice!

Finished Lorelei and the Laser Eyes. Really liked it.
I have some qualms about some of the UI/UX choices but nothing too great.
Discovered 100% of the truth, but I need to check some story analysis or whatever and see if I missed anything.

Going to start Practical Beach Lizards next.

I have my doubts that Yumia is more serious than Ryza tbh.
But who knows.
Next time Ryza 2 is on sale I need to grab it. It also seems like KT has finally started to put their games in a bit more generous sales.

Got to the end of Valkyria Chronicles 4. Man that game was good. Why didn't they continue that series like that?

Playing some Horizon Forbidden West, but mostly feels like I'm killing time until FF7 Rebirth drops later this month.

Forbidden West is fun so far but really feels overstuffed with activities. I'm trying to not get too distracted from the main plot cause side quest bloat a la Ubisoft seems very likely.

Ryza games surely go on sale a lot. Maybe they will be discounted again during Lunar New Year around the end of Jan.
I was surprised to discover that it was made by a two person team.
That's amazing.

I have not really played that much the last couple of months besides Vampire Survivors, benchmarking, and getting some progress in Baldur's Gate 3 during the Christmas holiday.

I just got into Teardown, though.

What a great game! I had bought it a couple of years ago without playing it at all, but found my way back to it when someone claimed that it was an immersive sim. And it kind of is an immersive sim. It is partly a voxel and physics based "destruction work simulator" about destroying things with a sledgehammer and other tools, but you do all of that work to complete complex heists in open ended environments where you can destroy, build and interact with machines as you please to facilitate your schemes! The levels are filled with hidden additional valuables as well, which you can sell to upgrade your tools.

I am pretty sure that I just used one of the most creative ways to solve an objective that I have ever used in an immersive sim, but I would not want to spoil the game more than that.

Some people criticize the game for having too strict time limits, but it is not as stressful as you may think. You often have unlimited time to scope out the large level and plan everything you want to do in detail, and the time limit then starts when you have to active one of the alarm systems in the level that could not be disabled in other ways. At that point, you commonly have 60 seconds to get everything you need and escape until security arrives, which is usually very possible with some planning.

I would highly recommend the game if you like immersive sim games!
