Discussion What are you currently playing? (Week 48 of 2025)

I'm still playing a lot of Where Winds Meet, but there are some frustrations piling up. Mainly the localization being utter dogsh*t in large parts of the game. Which is really ruining the experience a lot tbh, because I can see the actual stories and lore should be really strong. But a lot is just lost. And its extremely inconsistent. Parts are solid. Some even good. And then some complete garbage.
I really vibe with the game but this is a real downer. And in the year 2025 I'm less accepting of this, because 1) this game is not by a small indie company and 2) there is competition that treats this significantly better.
I suppose the smart play would be to disregard the FOMO engagement thingies and take a break for a couple weeks and see if they improve it.

Also started Control and I'm digging it a lot. Great vibes. Interesting story so far.

I'm playing The Hundred Line -Last Defence Academy-

Like a typical Kodaka fare, the characters are outlandish and fun. The setting has been done to death already, but I feel it's a secondary concern because the character interactions are good and the overall plot is interesting. I can see why people loved it so much when it came out. The localisation is very good, too.

Also Darumi is best girl.

For some reason I installed Total War Warhammer 1 this week. Been having fun getting my bearings in and easy campaign.

I'm still making my way through Sky 1st though. Seeing the Jenis section is so nostalgic. It makes me wonder what a remake like this of the Crossbell games would be like. Lovely game.

Still playing Where Winds Meet and went back to Honkai Star Rail. Chinese century is here.

Also slowly working my way through the Hades 2 story by doing a run every once in awhile.

Started and finished the first SRWY DLC. Marked improvement over over it's predecessor ones, a proper mini campaign which played to the strenghts of the 3 featured series with interesting stages, interactions and story. Kinda like the base game
And like the base games it also inherits it's negatives especially for someone who played older SRW: lots of asset reuse (especially with voicelines and on the enemy side), weird omissions, strange threads intentionally left hanging. But I would still play it every day of the week over 30's, and newcomers won't really notice these issues

I'm still playing Rogue Trader because this game is enormous and I also started Powerwash Simulator 2 and Squeakcross: Home Squeak Home for these times I want to play something relaxing

Finished the first climax of Harvestella. I will take care the farm and complete some side stories first before continuing the main story.

I also re-started Super Robot Wars V. Wanting to stick with it this time. Just finished episode 2.

It will be a few years before me getting to Y, but it's sad to read that it has a lot of asset reuse.

I will finish V first, then probably going to X and T. I also have the physical copy of OGs and OG spinoff game on PS2. Played a large portion of OG1 but dropped the game a few years ago (don't even remember why). Definitely will return to it in the future.

Unfortunately this is an issue of having budget limitations and yearly cadence. Even V reuses lots of assets from Z3. It's the curse of this series: those HD sprites and animations take lots of effort to make and the team wants to use them as long as possible
I think my main issue with Y's asset reuse (which, let's be serious, on the player side there is still a lot but at least most units look very good) is with the voice acting: yeah retired and dead VAs are an issue, but lots of playable characters have VAs that are perfectly capable of working and yet were not called to record a single new line. Those things make you realize the game simply had its budget slashed, and still I'm conflicted because considering how many titles Bamco straight up cancelled last year it's a miracle that Y came out, and it's so good despite the obvious cuts

I see. So they managed to make a good game with limited resources. I think, to fans, the key is always to keep the series alive, so that it can be able to thrive in international market. In addition, Gundam is doing great globally so Bamco should understand that the appeal of mecha genre is in a rise. This should also help convince them to keep making more SRW games.

Meanwhile, here are some rants from a relatively old-schooled anime watcher: I am honestly feeling indifferent to many new mecha animes. Gundam Build Diver Re:Rise was the last great mecha show I watched. The anime industry is in need of better writers and mecha designers. But hey, it seems that younger audience enjoyed shows like Witch from Mercury (mechs are good, but story...) or GQuuuX (eh...), so maybe I am the old fart who can't keep up.
