Man I've been replaying it on a 4k - HDR set and honeslty the difference between it and SDR is fucking MINDBLOWING.

It really changes everything, do yourself a favor guys and play it in HDR only, its going to be so ridiculous on pc. Looks so goddamn dull in sdr

That's assuming HDR support is in. In the past we have seen console games skipping HDR on PC, like the recently released (and very competent port by the way) Detroit Become Human.

Likewise I'm not expecting the checkerboard solution to make the cut, either and that's a shame because PC is THE platform where scalability makes the most sense and CBR is very useful for those on 4k displays who want an IQ relatively close to the real deal.

Any tips for a good HDR display that wouldn't bankrupt me?

I'm so so sorry for the delay ! where do you live at ? usually Rtings.com and HDTVTest this channel are more than enough to do some cross referencing

Was playing Horizon on a Samsung Q85R. But like seriously, its beyond ridiculous with HDR on. Same with some other titles such as Detroit, GTS etc like its night and day

No problem! I'm in Austria. Going out and buying stuff isnt really an option with everything close due to the Coronavirus pandemic, but I will look into this once things go back to normal; and thank you for your tips!

I wonder what API will be used on PC. I seem to recall Decima having a Vulkan backend for production, could be really great for Vulkan to have AAA games running on it.

Guess so. Though it has not been confirmed it would seem Guerrilla are doing the PC version, it does not look like it's been outsourced.

Vulkan makes sense in this day and age for high end games.

Late reply but, OpenGl is outdated. Quantic Dream's Heavy Rain & Beyond for instance had an Opengl layer for production/testing and the final release in both cases ran on DX11.

While DX11 would be better It would still be sad to see Horizon being held back by such an old API. AAA games tend to benefit much more from Vulkan since devs have enough ressources to optimize for a broad range of GPU architecture.

I'm hoping for Vulkan. DX11 won't prevent the PC version from playing and looking better than on PS4 at least.

Is this still on schedule?
well, the Steam page hasnt seen any changes since the announcement, and the community hub hasnt seen any Guerrilla people interact for a while. They said they will announce further details later, and the release date is still the vague "Summer 2020". I dunno if the Coronavirus pandemic will postpone it all, we'll have to wait and see.

I think you might be misunderstanding the github repo.

It looks like it's a vulkan implementation of the clouds based on the 2017 tech paper, made by two students. Nothing to do with Guerrilla directly as such.

Not the melee though.
Melee is perfectly skippable! That's whats so great.

I go bow and traps ONLY and melee only for a finish.

My friend played in a COMPLETELY different way. He would tie down enemies and then use the slingshot and stab at them. I was shocked when I saw him play a while back.

To be completely successfully with a completely different styles of play speaks to the strength of the combat systems of this game.

It may be skippable, but I don't want to. I want it to be good. Especially for stealth.

Did you play HRZ? I mean, I'm not sure what you want from this game. Melee combat to be DMC4?

Stealth was only ok, not terrible and I used it often to get the first jump. It wasn't Metal Gear solid though.

Yeah I played HZD. Looking forward to playing at 60 FPS though.

I was expecting a little more from the spear, as if the developers were not expecting for players to use melee much. Like, a stealth kill doesn't instantly kill, so it's better to shoot from a distance so that you're not on top of enemies in a bad position when they get pissed off.

Ah nice.

The spear seemed like the 'weapon of last resort' or 'to be used with ropes only' at times. Once you really REALLY level up and get a nice spear, it can dispatch lower level enemies and do more damage to fallen enemies and the like. Although you can do so, I'm not certain that the developers encouraged the 'sneak and stab' at any point. Even when you are in tight corners, setting a trap, getting the high ground and using armor fracturing arrows is way more effective.

The emphasis was traps, ropes, bow, slingshot and the like. Most pointless is the weapon that you pick up from a few enemies, the kind of 'Gatling gun' deal that just isn't worth ever using. Now THAT should've been tossed.

Note that I did NOT improve all of my melee stats like I could have, so anyone's MMV with this.

What I played from HZD via PS Now I mostly played with melee combat, simply because precision aiming and the lag that came from the streaming didnt go together well. I am very much looking forward to using the bow properly with mouse aim!

It's too expensive but it looks like it's a great port with a lot of work behind it. I just can't justify that price for a second dip, at least not in my current situation.

I'm sure there is a lot of engineering that went into this and I can appreciate better physicalized foliage, but coming out with "we have graphical options!" as a marketing point in 2020 is a little much :).

The price too. Will wait for sale with a healthy discount because all this kind of pricing achieves is putting that game in the backlog. I may have splurged up to 40 bucks, but this is just greedy.

It's fifty € over here, but glad that at least some of you can have it for an appropriate price.

For the options and the trailer: That's what a good PC version is about.
Options, unlocked framerates (120 is at least a significant improvement), adjustability to different hardware, a benchmark is included, graphical settings above the original release, wide screen support. All trademarks of a well-done PC port can't blame them for taking pride in it and marketing it tbh.
There is even an Original pre set (aka medium) to make comparisons easier.

lol, it's even worse over here. We got a 3% tax reduce (from 19 to 16%) till the end of the year (started this month).
If you buy the game, the receipt clearly states 16% taxes. Come on Gabe & Sony.
At least I could use my 5€ coupon.

I might be missing something but isn't the tax correct then?

Yes and no.
Yes, the tax has been correctly applied.
No, because the game is still 50€ for people buying it. It should have been 3% cheaper. All "rich" regions have similar prices. If for example a game is $50. it will be 50€ in Germany. 50€ for HZD means that they are sticking to the originally planned price with 19% tax and are just pocketing the extra 3%, because of the reduced tax that is active for 3 days.

I'm curious how the compatibility and performance will be on 7 through the DX12 compatibility layer. If it runs at all, of course.

Shame they didn't go for Vulkan :).

The UK price plot thickens: the game has gone back up to £39.99 on EGS now. A friend of mine wanted to use his £10 coupon thinking he could get it for £23.

He's bought it on Steam now. EGS isn't worth a £3 saving.
