So, the Golden Week Sale doesn't even get a big banner, and it's just a weekend sale?

Why is Avengers highlighted? Is it because it's SE?

Also I don't think even Gears Tactics got a banner or anything like that. Is it possible that the person responsible for banners and all of that is just not there?

I see only cosplayers and anime on twitter :coffee-blob:
Some times I wish that I could limit that. A person can only take so much of that. It's not good for my mental health (for a variety of reasons) especially because of some of the stuff that some artist retweet. The cosplayer stuff I have been trying to get rid of.

Yes, you can pretty easily play pretty much the entire game in coop. I do believe it works like Dark Souls however, and only the host gets story progression so you have to do areas twice.

So, Ubi is still not taking a side and they'll go with the male/female character and the 'one size fits all' story. Can't wait for another forgettable story.

It’s Ubi, forgettable is the nice outcome :so-good-blob:
You can have cringe, middly offensive, or plain stupid. Forgettable is Ubi trying.

I just checked and I have 124 Hours in AC: Odyssey. I like Blackflag and Syndicate well enough but whatever Odyssey "is", I love it. I'm not going to pre-order Valhalla (unless some place has a wonky sale on it) but I'll pick it up at some point if it turns out to look interesting. I love Nordic settings too.

I really don't get it.

Valve promotes and makes big banners for the launch of a simple game, sometimes even for titles from companies that are signing exclusivity deals with competing platforms, companies that have frequently used the press to "attack" Valve, and it's cut.

Then, a cool event like the LudoNarraCon, which included numerous exclusive demos, deals, streams and conferences, gets a small icon, that was frequently on tab 2 or 3 of the store page (you had to press change tabs to see it).

Now, this Golden Week Sale is a small icon on the 2nd tab, while on the 1st tab I'm getting a much more visible icon for the "tinybuild Zen weekend", from a company that continues to make their games timed-exclusive to another store.
That, and a sale for tower-defence games.

It's a bit ridiculous.

I know Valve isn't interested in doing something about the developers who treat Steam users as second-rate customers, since they believe in simply giving developers and publishers tools to sell their games, and not doing much else, but this whole "neutrality" in which they go as far as to still promote these companies, and their games, at the expense of other companies, who aren't doing such a thing, reminds me of the Neutral People from Futurama:

I hate seeing shitty people, or at least people who pull shitty things, still get rewarded, while plenty of developers and publishers struggle to have visibility on the store, and never get front page treatment.

Fwiw, the placement is random, so it can also be on the first tab. But yeah, it's a bit weird. Was the Golden Week sale last year also so "small"?

Maybe it's finally time for me to get Phoenix Wright...
If you are a Humble subscriber, Phoenix Wright is probably cheaper at Humble, since it's also on sale there.

If you haven't played the games, you'll have a great time (and you're getting a lot of content: 3 games, for the current, small price). ;)

I don't necessarily agree that a story being memorable is precluded on the character's gender being defined one way or the other. But then again, it depends and it does require more work to do right I think.

My twitter feed is full of Tabletop RPG. It's certainly in my center of interests, but as a guy without social life, it can get old :cryblob:

Always piqued my interest, may very well be my first FMV game since the 2000's (?)

I'm aware that it's based off data. And I don't recall even seeing this banner. Maybe it was just up for one day only?

What I was trying to say is even though it's based off data, someone still has to set it up. Because I doubt that Valve would like for Hentai VN to sell 5 million copies in a span of 2 days and automatically get put up on the banner. So I would imagine that someone still has to approve of it at the end of the day and get a banner made. Sometimes there will be multiple banners in a day (which is sort of weird and that part I am not sure how that works) because there have been cases when a publisher sale happens from say Bethesda and then one day there is a banner for some new game that just released and then after that day the rest of the week is still that Bethesda publisher sale banner.

AssCrack - and probably every Ubi game moving forward - is just gonna be a run of the mill open world RPG with "character creation" now.

This is a fine thing, I like Resident Evil 6. I do. Its fun.
I'll do you one more: Resident Evil 6 is my favourite game in the RE series (I'm yet to play the remakes of 2 and 3 thought). :thumbsupblob:

It has a generous amount of content, with great variety (each character almost felt like a different game, some more action-based, others more in the classic style), some really fun extra modes, and above all, the game was extremely fun to play. The melee system was a lot of fun, and one of the best I've played in a game, just for the fun factor of it.

Yeah, the game was "bombastic", the story kind of silly, but the first Resident Evil was, in terms of setting, pretty much a typical "b movie" (and remember that intro? :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes: ). Resident Evil 6 is a "b movie", in playable form, with a bigger budget than usual.
Yeah, it was louder, and had more action than other entries. But, I saw it as a natural step. Like from Night of the Living Dead, to Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead. First, you have a small infected area. Now, you got to see "the big picture", how chaos and the infected are everywhere, even around the president of the USA. ;)

Above all, videogames for me are about having a good time, having fun.
And, I had a great time with Resident Evil 6.

Wasn't there an event last year with a meta game around golden tokens?

I think the reason is a lot simpler. Steam is a store managed by a western company that target mainly a western audience and, this is my perception and I could be completely wrong, japanese games aren't that big of a deal for the vast majority of pc players.
This place is the complete opposite though, 90% of the time the conversation revolves around some random anime game or port of a japanese game from 20 years ago.

Not when the game has an historical setting when the role of men and women were much more defined in position, prejudice and social expectations. Both viking men and women were fighters, but they had a different role in society so the path to become a great Viking commander and how other characters adapt and react to it have to be somewhat different, if the story has any weight. Writing a strong, multifaceted historical character requires you to choose a side and insert the character you chose into the society you're trying to portray and make it believable. You could also do the same with a soulless character that it's no more than a tool to tell the personal tales of the people you meet but that won't be the case, both because the series has always focused on its main character and because they're already putting the spotlight on your character in the description on Ubi's website.

Since I've been in an INTI CREATES mood, I would like to mention that most of their games are currently on sale.

If you like 2D classic games, either level based, or metroidvanias, there's not many teams around better than these guys.
And, they recently started investing seriously on Steam, with 5 titles released in 10 months, good ports, and a steady flow of updates and patches.

So, here are some quick comments about some of their titles:

I'm currently playing Blaster Master Zero (I'm yet to finish it because Dragon Marked For Death, another of their games, has been stealing my time :giggle:), and it's highly recommended for those who enjoy games done in an 8-bit style. I'm having a great time.
It's a metroidvania, but unlike some games in the genre the difficulty is very accessible.

The second game is supposed to be even better:

Then, we have the fun, and totally not-classic Castlevania (level based) in all but the name:

If you like later Mega Man games (Zero, ZX), you should have a lot of fun with Azure Striker Gunvolt.
Since I played it at launch, the game was updated with a 60fps mode, HD assets, and more.
Do note: the last boss will probably make you lose some hair (I know I did :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:)

And, there's a spin-off that's even better, their first title released on Steam day and date with other platforms:

If you prefer your Mega Man-likes in 8-bit, the Mighty Gunvolt spin-off series may be for you.

The first game is short, and relatively basic, but for the asking price it's well worth a look:

And the sequel is better in every sense, and a great buy for fans of the classic Mega Man series:

Last, but not least, if you are lashman, you love your anime, and have VR hardware, this is the game for you:

Looks like a 3rd party Xbox Serious X event scheduled for May 7th.

Elden Ring gameplay trailer has to show. If not then its probably a 2022 game at this point :(

Maybe that new Batman game or Rocksteady game will finally be revealed too.

Also really crazy how Microsoft got 10+ million subs with Gamepass. Even if half of those are 1$ trial plebs its still a ton of revenue every year for them.

Their entire 1st party approach next gen will just be acquiring dev teams and pumping out monthly Gamepass content until they reach Netflix levels. And then just throw money around at big devs to have their games debut day 0 on GP.

I see Sony and Nintendo following suit. The industry is gonna look really different 5-10 years from now.

To complement my post above about the INTI CREATES games currently on sale, their latest game, Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX (well, Dragon Marked For Death came out recently on Steam, but it's older than this game, when you consider the release date on all platforms) had a cosmetic bonus DLC for Switch pre-orders, and for purchases on Steam for the first 3 weeks.
But, they forgot to remove the DLC from the store (it's not listed on the game's page, but it's still on Steam, if you search for it).

If you are the collector type, and want to get your hands on a small cosmetic DLC that is no longer available on the Switch, and may be removed from Steam at any time, do consider buying the game.

This is the DLC:

And once again, the game:

Unless they are specifically trying to tell a story about prejudice and privelige, I think it's actually a bad thing to try and enforce that bit of history on modern escapism where representation is already barely existent. Absolutely 0 of the AC games have had anything resembling accurate societal portrayals of gender or race, and mostly not even position (except for where they go out of their way to show some rich / powerful douche demeaning everyone else).

It's literally an alternate earth where a precursor race of techno-super-beings are fucking with time and people from beyond the grave and you are experiencing "historical events" including running around picking up trees via DNA. I can appreciate the good writing (and poo-poo or ignore the bad) without complaining that they're not correctly representing some of the more abhorrent aspects of human history (and present) in my game designed for fun and time killing.

Edit: There are games out there that try and convey the effects and realities of bigotry, historically and present, across many spectrums, and even when it's the games whole focus it only scratches the surface of the issues. Movies, books, etc. all are the same way. While it's important to continue educating people about why bigotry is fucked, it's also really, really important to increase representation in all media, because lack of representation is a major issue itself.

I'm sad GranBlue Fantasy Versus isn't on sale.

Last, but not least, if you are lashman, you love your anime, and have VR hardware, this is the game for you:

Gal Gun 2 is way way better in VR (for an extra fee), having a full campaign / story and lots more interactivity. But it's not on sale. If you want sketchy VR games I'd say hold out for GG2.

Assassins Creed isn't for me anymore, nor are the majority of Ubisofts other games. But I really hope they'll lose LOTS of revenue for pulling their games from Steam and supporting Epic instead. And I believe they do: Ubisofts games sold millions on Steam. No way they get the same revenue on uPlay and EGS.

If you do give it a go, try out how the melee works in the game. It's where most of the fun is.
Or, check some videos.

It's not always well explained, I found a lot of things almost by accident, but you basically shoot enemies once or twice, a "prompt" will then appear when you approach them, and you will pull some devastating melee movies, and finishers.
Like, the characters pull insane moves, almost out of a wrestling match. :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:
It's a great way to save ammo, and a lot of fun, very fluid.

Here's the first video I found (it's not a particularly good one, it's just to show you how it works):
