The Steam-like Discord Store launches its global beta today, so everyone can try it out.

First on Discord are games with timed(3 months) exclusivity to Discord.

The Nitro section of Discord.
Discord Nitro, meanwhile, is like Netflix, or the Xbox Game Pass: a subscription service which gives you access to a catalogue of games for a monthly fee. Discord recently announced it was bumping the price of Nitro from $5 to $10 a month, to reflect the growing number of games available with it. There are only 50 games there but some good ones nonetheless.

Discord's Universal Library is a feature which launches any game on your computer - handy, given increasing amount of launchers (Epic, Battle.net, Steam, GOG, etc.) out there now.

Weeeeelll... I'm all for extra competition nevertheless. As long as there are no dumb exclusivity bargains where they lock content away akin to console third party exclusives. "You can only play this game if you have an AMD GPU" would be the worst case scenario.

they already did that as well .... both Bad North and Sinner are 90-day exclusives ... and Minion Masters will apparently have its 1.0 version exclusive to discord for 90 days as well (it's already in early access on steam and has been for a good while)

These subscription-based things are turning to be pretty popular. I want to say I don't really care for them. But the MS Game pass is proving really nice for me to play FH4. I doubt i will feel the same way after i get tired of it tho.

i'm definitely not going to buy any games on discord ... not even nitro ... especially since the "games" one is $10 ... the "additional features" one is still $5 and that's more than enough for me .... also - i own every single game they're offering in nitro (mostly because they're all old as fuck )

Yea... that is a big problem. Most of the games they want to sell I already own. At least the good ones. Anything else I am meh. I do like the idea of playing new games that I don't care to buy in a subscription.

and then there's the stupid exclusive bullshit they're pulling

and no regional pricing

and really bad download speeds for some people (like 300KB/s)

All of these new stores are pretty much useless to me, since they don't have regional prices. I'd rather stay with "the monopoly" that's actually looking out for me than try the new hotness that's just the old crap but with less features.

It has limited regional pricing for me. Charges in US dollars, no regional payment providers, etc. Steam still provides a superior service in my opinion.

Tho I'm so anti-piracy that I'm pro DRM. I wish everyone would have to buy a camera so that the devs can verify that it's truly you playing the game.
