Good-Feel is made up of former Nintendo employees who wanted to break free from the Corporate culture. And yup it seems very likely they were convinced to join EGS.

I'm worried they might not release on Steam because they don't have enough knowledge.
I don't think you're giving them enough credit. They probably know about Steam, but when venturing to a new platform there is always risk. Epic Games Store exclusivity is, as always, risk mitigation.

Obviously there are some high profile games that would've done well on Steam going to EGS for exclusivity, but as time has passed those are in the minority. Even in the bad old days when Epic was flexing much harder than they are now, you could take a good look at a significant portion of the games that signed exclusivity deals and a lot of them were from developers just starting out, or indies whose last game was a flop, and extrapolate that they signed on the dotted line because Epic were offering them cashflow certainty.

I don't think this is a case of "Japan being Japan" or not understanding the PC market - this is just about cashflow certainty. They made a game that released over a year ago on Switch and didn't get enough reviews to earn it a Metascore, so I imagine the sales are bad. The PC version could've already been in the works, and the developer has no confidence it's going to sell, or they specifically made a PC version to pitch to Epic for exclusivity in order to help bankroll their next project.

How would Alyx even work without VR ? I'd love for it to be true though. I don't like VR and I would love a traditional Half-Life FPS experience.

It will probably just be a slow survival game like RE7 with maybe some QTEs or something like that.

Oh and Half-Life 3 is totally getting cancelled. No chance Valve goes through with it to the end lol.

Also disappointed to not see some of the older PS4 exclusive titles on that list like Order 1886, Infamous, Knack and some others I never picked up for the system. I guess it makes sense for Sony not to care about them but I should really buy them used cheap copies one of these days.

I wonder how people will feel about a direct Skies of Arcadia port or even a remaster. I played it on Dolphin a while ago and I was surprised at how the world felt kinda small to me, versus when I played it on Dreamcast (and later the Gamecube port) and thought it was a huge world. It's still fun to play though.

I want more games with turn based ship battles where I can save up AP and make Kodai, Cloud, Vyse fire the wave motion gun, err ... moonstone cannon against a tiny patrol boat.

Maybe the list is not the whole story as crazy as it already is. I'm not even joking when I say that I would totally ""play"" The Order 1886 if it ever came to PC. It was an absolute dread on console.
Yeah Sony are after the big bucks. Smaller, lesser known titles won't cross the border over to PC but I'm intrigued at The Last Guardian being on that list. It has not been a great success on its original platform.

Why would Sony want this one on Steam ?

Of course, assuming Queen's list will turn out true in the foreseeable.

I would love a modern remake of this. Just imagine how amazing the traversal of the world could be in a flying ship 😭

Last Guardian only exists because of the cult following who wanted the game all those years. I don't think it performed very well on vanilla PS4 either in terms of controls and framerate etc. I can see enough people at Sony wanting that game to have a revival of some kind.

I have a copy but I am not playing it until I get a PS5 but on PC would be great too heh.

Looking at some Youtube footage of the console versions performance appears to be downright dreadful at times. A solid 60fps would do the game wonders on PC.
I'm just wondering what their reasoning is to bring this particular game to PC. I don't think the demand is high.

Not complaining. Would buy on Steam the day the pages is live.

Also just like Kojima..I would think Ueda has enough sway with Sony to ask the game to release on more platforms to make more money etc. And there is no chance they tell him no.

Kojima may have really been that domino piece that starts to bring all these Sony owned games to a bigger audience. PC gaming and Steam is so big these days too it almost guarantees most of these PS4 games would turn good profit as they cost next to nothing to port.

I would not be so sure. The IP belongs to Sony, unlike Death Stranding there are no contractual clauses that could allow a PC version. But if it made Queen's list then a PC version is on the way.
Totally agree on the profit paragraph.

There is a big potential for sure. Now we wait for official announcements.

Yeah open world games are at a point where this could be really fun. It would be fun to seamlessly dock a ship, leave the bridge and walk right into the city. It could realize the scale it had to sorta fake the first time around. And airships. You can't go wrong with airships.

I...honestly don't think so. Ueda released only 3 games in 15 years, which only one (Shadow of the Colossus) sold well. His games might be interesting and pretty to look at, but I don't think they align with Sony's current trends.

Most likely the Epic money will cover the cost of the port with some left over for a profit. So it makes sense as to why they would go that route.

They are a dev that has only been on Nintendo (since 2008 they have been making games on Nintendos behalf including stuff that is "pre-built" in all 3DS, they made some of the mii plaza games for the 3DS. Point being they have not released stuff for SIE or MS. Asides from that they also did mobile/browser games. This is their first time working on a PC version of the game. Since they are based off in Japan and their connections a number of things may have happened. By which I mean that they could have even asked someone at Nintendo about stuff on PC, since the game may have not sold that well and it was either through PC or mobile that they could have released the game in order to make up sales and stuff.

The game did get a physical release in Japan on Dec 10 2020 and yes that's a year after it's initial release but that didn't even sell 5k copies.

Something else is that Epic has a Japanese office, it's main responsibility is very likely just Unreal related but at the same time someone has to be maintaining this. https://twitter.com/EpicGamesJP?s=09

And yes they could do that back in the US, or even contract that out or something but maybe the JPN office is responsible for it. So it would potentially be a lot easier for a Japanese Dev to get a hold of Epic (especially seeing how it can be hard for western indie devs just to get a hold of Valve), Epic may want more Japanese games or something and as for other smaller Japanese devs, Epic likely would not have given them the time of day sort of thing.

They have enough people for 3 projects? Didn't Alyx alone require "every" Valve game dev?
I don't think so, they had 80 people working on that game and they likely still needed 20+ people still maintaining Valves other games (TF2 had at least 2 people working on it any given day)

How would Alyx even work without VR ? I'd love for it to be true though. I don't like VR and I would love a traditional Half-Life FPS experience.

Maybe Valve will do a different SKU that they plan to sell for a lot cheaper. For those that want to play it for the story. I wonder if they would release that on console. That's right Half Life Alyx on N/S.

It would have been cool if Valve did some of this stuff for Alyx but given how much play test they did and how they changed a lot in order to be able to please more people it makes sense as to why. Enemies were going to be a lot faster and stuff I think but that just overwhelmed people.

There are a lot of games that I don't think Sony cares about anymore. If you look at the PS5 PS+ collection, those are the games that Sony cares about, Killzone is not there, neither is Knack, I don't think Gravity Daze is even there.

didn’t Bungie say outright that there’s no Destiny 3 in development?
Yeah back in June they said splitting the community with Destiny 2 was a mistake and they had no plans for a 3. Which is why they announced Beyond Light, The Witch Queen and Lightfall at the same time. Because they wanted to be transparent about it. They are working on a new IP called Matter though.

I wonder if there are any people at Sony who see the success of MCC on steam and think to themselves...what if we packaged all the old Killzone and/or Resistance games. And released them on PC so people can play them on M/KB with unlocked frames.

Because fucking hell would I love that. :negative-blob:

I'm with you on this. Replaying Killzone 2 at a decent framerate with M/K would be amazing.
Does not seem to be on the cards though.

Bloodborne and God of War will do nicely enough.

Alyx would need a pretty big rework to be a good flatscreen game, it is really designed as a VR game at its core.

I got a gut feeling that porting PS3 games to a modern console/PC architecture is a lot more work than Sony would be willing to do for most of their PS3 games.

Been playing some CIVVI again recently, but i noticed i'm kinda burned out on the CIV formular.
Really looking forward to Humankind now, gonna be interesting to see if they can a) match up to the OG and b) how different it's ideas will be.

Idk, just trying to stay relevant because i haven't posted a lot in here recently, i don't want people to forget me

Such a shame. Those games may have not been as big and influential like Doom, Half-Life, Halo etc. But they were still a blast and more importantly those games were a huge part in making Guerrilla/Insomniac who they are today.

Sadly Sony doesn't give a shit and make no effort to preserve games. They will die and disappear on those old platforms :ripblob::notlikethisblob:

I didn't like Boneworks. The idea of the "simulated" full body physics is cool to watch, but awful to play. The platforming segments were full of moments where some "simulated" body part decided to get stuck in another object because why not, and ruined a jump, or a climb. And the launch without a mid-level save feature was an awful idea, considering that some of the levels are pretty damn long.

One of those who want more of Sony on PC. I imagine he is the one who greenlit Horizon on Steam.
Hot take incoming: Maybe he understands that the importance of exclusives when it comes to PC vs console is vastly overestimated. When choosing between consoles, sure, exclusives are important, but PCs and consoles have too many differences for some exclusive games to be the determining factor. Not to mention that the core gamer audience, the part of your customer base that goes apeshit for the tiniest bit of exclusive content, is the most likely to own multiple platforms anyway.

Ok, done reading all, answering all I can.

Easy, it doesn't work, Alyx is a game built from the ground for the VR, a non-VR version is a completely different game, from the level design to the interactions or the animations between players and NPCs, everything would be completely different and let's be clear here, I know Queen knows her thing but I won't trust some things that I know from experience that are not coming any time soon.

And hear me here, everyone, don't use this line as a weapon against anyone or I will be fucking angry with anyone who uses it.

didn’t Bungie say outright that there’s no Destiny 3 in development?
Correct, Beyond Light was the beginning of the previously known Destiny 3 before changing the model and expand Destiny 2 for some more years.

I don't understand this Jim gif, but he's happy and that's gold in 2021 :cat-heart-blob:

Honestly that's my take as well. Whoever fed Queen that info must have been under the influence of some substance.

I trust many other elements of her list could very well turn out true. The Half-Life bits strike as very far-fetched.
