Figure I'd mention it here as well since this gets more traction and they're some of my favorite games:

Pretty awesome deal for some amazing games, the entire original thief series is on sale for 90% off on GOG

They're basically .69 cents each (Nice)
If you don't own them I highly recommend grabbing them, the discount lasts for the next 8ish days

I like to think philosophically over these things I guess. I think you are completely right. The system is both the reason why these products exist, but also why they're going for high prices at the moment.

I don't understand when people blame scalpers for their problems with getting latest releases when what they're doing is just applying the rules of capitalism. Demand is high, price is high.

In the end, money speaks. Whoever has money buys the latest products no problem paying scalping prices.

In the end, I'm just criticizing people for being naive about the system. Supply and demand is the literal foundation of capitalism.
Yeah it's interesting. I mean the scalpers are just profiting on a scarce item and they're dicks about it. But it's just the price system.

Also, people who purchase from scalpers have too much money or too little self-control. If the latter, it is a bit sad.
At this point chances are that at least the Nvidia cards will stay at these prices (or go even higher 😬) for the next year or so. Who wants to wait that long if they are in need of a new card?

Laptops aren't safe either now.
It's so strange how we created a currency that requires people to perform bullshit computations to make money.
It's not like that computational power is put to any good use, as far as I know, Cryptocurrency couldn't be more environmentally unfriendly if they tried. Just imagine how much extra electricity has been wasted already over the lifetime of Bitcon and all these other currencies. And for no real purpose, just to make it artificially "hard" to produce.

What are the links to our anime and to our movie/TV thread since there is some stuff that I would like to talk about.

And is there a way to sticky so that I can find those more easily?

I'm watching Season 1 and well episode 8 sure is something else. Its cool and also weird how they have different people directing each episode.

There are various methods of securing a cryptocurrency network. Bitcoin I believe is the most energy demanding one but is also considered to be the most secure. But there are cryptos that use significantly less energy.

Hey madjoki

Is there a button to clear hidden packages on your website? Steam Community

I can see the button, next to each game, to hide them. But I cannot see a button to undo the action if the game does not appear.

Think Im gonna finish up Crash 4 today, which leaves me with 3 other games on PS4 left.

FFVIIR - will wait for PC version
Shadow of the Colossus - never got this game to click for me unlike The Last Guardian
Crash Team Racing - don't have Plus so can't play online and campaign is a bit boring so I'll see

After this Im done with my PS4.

Isn't the computational power those miners provide making sure bitcoin is secure and such? I thought that was the point of a block chain?
Not really. The security of it comes from the blockchain, which is a distributed ledger where a lot of (not strictly all) participants need to agree on the most recent transactions that occurred. That's completely separate from the "proof of work" element of mining bitcoins, which involves solving literally pointless, but artificially hard problems.
You could replace that element with people directly exchanging normal currencies to get the coins, and all the other parts of how bitcoin operates would remain intact. Hell, it wouldn't even really change the "privacy" element, since the only way you transform these coins into real money is through some form of exchange anyway, which is then easy for governments to track. Once you know to whom the coins belong, you can then use the blockchain to recreate all transactions they were involved with.
It's all just smokes and mirrors, with no real privacy to it.

This chart is kinda piontless since it ignores the dimension of time. The work required to mine only goes up over time, that's true for Bitcoin, and it's true for Ethereum. It's wasting more and more energy every year.

I know Ethereum has had plans to replace the "proof of work" thing with something else at some point, but to my knowledge those plans have never matured past the planning stage.

This is what really gets to me honestly. The ecological impact is crazy, but it's also a result of carbon emissions not being taxed enough or even at all. If they were, I suspect the bill would be quite discouraging for them.

Them and a lot of other industries, which would require shifting to renewables and nuclear (at least short-term). Perish the thought.

If whatever the economic benefit is didn't significantly outweigh the environmental impact then governments might be keener to clamp down on crypto. I expect there's plenty of fuckery with governments either looking at it to generate money or already involved in it.

It never goes on sale right?
I bought both the starter edition and Shadowbringers on sale separately a year ago. Keep in my mind if you create the account on Steam, you'll have to buy the next expansion there.
What I suggest with FFXIV now is to go with free trial, it consists in about 200 hours of gameplpay with no day/month limit (you can reach lvl 60 which will take at least 100 hours I think). Paying the monthly fee from day1 is kinda pointless right now

True, but to play devil's advocate what are people really into the product meant to do except buy from those motherfuckers ?

I totally understand your point, too much money and not enough patience, it's a fact.
But then, maybe I'm going overboard on empathy because I wouldn't say no to some products myself, imagine a console only gamer. Gaming is his passion, he wants to play on PS5 asap. Evidently one could advise him to expand his hobbies, but the facts remain.
He didn't get a PS5 on launch day. The release hype must have been hell but it's what it is. Now people are talking about several more months before things calm down.
He doesn't have much of a choice :shrugblob:

I know there's a lot of anime degenerates in here, you know who you are, so I'm recommending this game which is basically an unofficial NGE game.

It was part of July's Humble Choice (the one with Planetfall and Void Bastards) so check if you have it. It's an action platformer with light rogue mechanics (randomized map sequences) with a meta progression layer tied to weapon and item mastery that allows you to start runs with items you previously found and another progression layer tied to your character stats and skills. It's a nice little game that you should play.

You seem to be judging all cryptos based on what Bitcoin is doing. As you see EOS is 70.000 times more energy efficient than Bitcoin so you can’t just put them all in the same category even if energy usage goes up over time. Bitcoin is not anonymous and I agree that’s a significant problem. But Monero, as far as I’m aware, really is completely untrackable, even though that does come with its own set of problems.

I played it a little last year and it was pretty fun so I decided to wait until full release. ...Which I apparently completely missed, huh. Thanks for mentioning it, time to get back to it :steam_pigblanket:

So glad to finally be playing Yakuza 3, never got around to that one on PS3.
Sure, it's a significant step down coming from kiwami 2 but it's still great. And the Okinawa setting makes it a really unique game in the series.
Will be playing through the franchise all the way to the end in parallel with whatever other games I decide to play along the way. Looking forward to replay Y4&5 and finally see the end of Kiryu's saga in Y6.

Speaking of sega ports, we can probably give up on Full Body, right?
