Users: I really hope Crash 4 comes to PC

Activision:
I mean Activision is the one that will lose money. If they considered Crash and Spyro trilogy as underperformed products they better be ready for Crash 4 sale results on PC.

I agree but as we have seen, PC is not their main market so they don't give a shit.

Meanwhile, I'm playing that Xenothreat event with Star Citizen and damn if I'm not amazed. Those capital ships are proper, scary weapons platforms. Seeing them prioritize targets while their PDCs go brrr against incoming torpedoes, using flares selectively against incoming missiles while maneuvering to bring their turrets and railguns to bear...

Feels like experiencing Homeworld or the Expanse as a pilot in many ways and then some :p. There's just some really awe-inspiring stuff happening now, when physics don't nope out. Seeing those ships jolt at the impact of torpedoes is a space-sim fan's joy. To think those are actually on the smaller side of capitals!

I mean, it sucks that Crash 4 won't be on Steam, but it's a Acti 1st party game, so Im somewhat okay with it.

PC version not even having a date is a lot worse than Bnet exclusivity.

Yeah Activision I will totally still care about Crash 4 by fall instead of playing anything else.

% dropped, but if you look at the beginning of the document, they made more money last year than in 19', so even with this % drop, they should have made more money on PC ? Or am I reading it wrong ?

I would need to do the math that i probably will never do. But even with that Breakpoint was their only big PC release last Q3 and this Q3 they had Legion, Valhalla and Immortals and still lost PC audience, in a year where more PC were sold than in any year in past 10 years.

The lack of playtime tracking on Battlenet sucks hard. At least EGS has playtime tracking and cheevos (despite that only being in certain games and only in-game).

We'll need actual sales numbers (and not revenue or %) to see if they lost PC audience :p

For me they made more money last year, probably got more PC audience, AND grabbed a lot of console audience.

I mean they made +57% in Q3 last year, that's big.

Just need to know where they put the Epic moneyhat in this table, if it's counted as sales revenue, then nevermind what I said :lampblob:

If they don't include the money from Epic as sales, they have to disclose it didn't they?

The main event of the 1.3 update starts tomorrow in Genshin Impact :dmcblob:
Hopefully it's big, game has been kinda barren for a while now (since 1.2 had most everything front-loaded I guess).

Also I'm pretty much already set for the year with 3 Yakuza games, February Choice and Early Access games I bought last year that are going to release soon-ish (Subnautica Below Zero, Edge of Eternity and Metal Unit (which is now out)).
I also plan (🤞 ) to grab some Atelier in the Lunar sale if prices are right.
Add in the existing library, and, well. :steam_pigblanket:

A Windows PC version is also coming to Blizzard’s Battle.net store, Activision said, sometime in 2021.
There is still hope Crash is a co-exclusivity between EGS and Battle.net.

That would mean that i) the game would be playable with Geforce Now, and ii) the game would eventually be released on Steam.

Modern Warfare 2 Remake was never released on Steam.

Unless Activision pushes some type of co-promos with WoW, Overwatch or COD..I just don't see Crash succeeding on BNet.

3D platformer genre is probably the most dead genre on PC. They need all the audience they can get which is crazy for them not to do Steam. And it doesn't matter anyways. They wait so long to release it after the marketing/hype cycle the game never had a chance on PC to begin with.

lets fight!

When was the last time a competitor "won" the platform wars with exclusives over the market leader?

The argument always comes to the forefront either because of list wars or a general dislike of Exclusives (EGS vs Steam)

The question is: Are Exclusives really the path to success?
Of course, there will be many people saying they only bought the system because of game x or z (me included), and others will vehemently defend the Exclusive narrative because of a hundred different reasons.

First of all: how are we defining success because of Exclusives? Did a market leader really win the generation because of Exclusives or because it had momentum from the previous generation?
Are there any instances where an underdog/competitor took the crown from the current market leader because of Exclusives? I can only think of one example, and that is 3 decades old: PlayStation 1.
The PlayStation 2 won as a previous market leader.
Did the Wii win because of Exclusives? or more realistically because of the hardware/motion controls?
did the 360 "nearly" won second place (and "nearly won in the US, can't remember if PS3 overtook it in the end) because of Exclusives or because of hardware (kinect)
The WiiU, coming as a market leader didn't win anything, exclusives didn't even matter.
The PS4 ... is a special case (you are just trying to fit it into your narrative!!!) No, hear me out, please. Is the Switch considered current gen (PS4/XBO) or next gen (PS5/XBS)? For all intents and purposes, the WiiU was the first release of the generation of PS4 and XBO. The PS4 would have handily won, so handily, that the argument it was because of Exclusives is moot, because the generation had such a massive decline in console sales across the big 3, that you can't pinpoint it on the strength of the Playstation brand and exclusives, but rather because of the massive fuck-ups of the competition. If the Switch counts as belonging to the PS4/XBO generation, then the generation isn't over yet, the Switch is currently predicted to outsell the PS4.
And if the Switch wins current gen or next gen, doesn't matter, it won because of Hardware and not because of Exclusives. (unless someone wants to argue that the Nintendo output of the WiiU era was 10 to 15 times in quality than the Wii or Switch era)

All in all, Exclusives can only support the status quo, there are more examples of consoles losing or winning the generation because of hardware than of Exclusives.
And the sales support that. Overall, the console market is shrinking, doesn't even matter if you include or exclude handhelds. The switch is both, and its inclusion with all handhelds, or its exclusion with all handhelds will still be a decline in overall sales.

(Image only begins with the PS360WII Generation)

I don't think anyone has any basis for making a bulletproof case one way or the other. It's also difficult in some cases to distinguish hardware and software "exclusivity", particularly with Nintendo. I don't think anyone would disagree that e.g. Wii Sports was instrumental in the Wii's amazing success right out of the gate, and that's a software exclusive which only works in conjunction with the exclusive features the hardware provided.

I keep forgetting about the Lunar sale. Promised myself after getting NIoh2 that I won't buy anything until May. Need to play backlog.

But Valheim looks so good. And Valve will probably do 5 dollar off thing again with sale.

Gonna do my best to avoid sales page and wishlist at all costs this weekend.
