Over 100k players hot damn. Downloading it now.

The release of the playtest function is already doing work I see.
The play test also makes mention of a prize since it's a battle royale. I think it's an Amazon gift card.

Also for Nier tips. Unless they have changed it (I never played the DLC) just kill a lot of sheep since there is an achievement for it and it's very easy to get early in the game. I can't remember if it's 100 sheep or 200 sheep.

My question is about the garden achievement, how will that work. On the PS3 and Xbox 360 it was easier to get the achievement by messing with your internal system clock, other wise it would take days and even weeks to get the achievement the "correct way".

From my time playing the only missable things are the eagle egg and this one quest that you talk to someone on your way to a lighthouse. They are a noticable character it just never accursed to you to talk to them again sort of thing, they will be over looking the vista.

Unless things have changed a lot the most OP weapon in the game is a maxed up phoenix lance, that will just 1 shot pretty much everything in your path.

I havent tried it yet and cant for the week end, but does it support both mouse camera and gamepad controls ?
Sadly no, but the mouse-like joystick option works pretty well since there are a lot of camera control settings.

I watched footage of original dad Nier up to the point I'm up in the remake. Other than dad vs bro it looks 1:1 so far but like the original had some "clunkier" as some call it Monster Hunter-esque controls and combat (and even gathering of random items on the ground, now you just pick them up with no animation). I'm not sure it's a good thing they changed all that, if animation priorities and what not made it click vs the much more fluid and fast Automata style of the remake. It even looks like it so far has the exact same encounter design but surely the new system makes it easier than it's meant to be (though I didn't watch the wintery early intro parts and I did see some potential for difficulty with such crowds in the remake)? So far I've basically spammed triangle for the puny crowds when in a playthrough of the original I see much more deliberate actions taken with all their pauses and lack of targeting? I dunno. Anyway, Nier sure deserved better as the original from what I'm seeing here. The remake is a pretty good lick of paint (I mean, it's not next gen like the Demon's Souls remake is to expect the same impressive result, it's good) but every other aspect, down to each camera angle or breakable box, was in the original if it doesn't diverge more from here.
This is actually pretty cool, in the original blood is rather emphasized at times but do to limitations it did look weird, especially when killing shades. I am guess that with this version it will look more like blood.
They don't bleed in the remake, I see that they do in the original as you say. I thought that was deliberate so only normal living stuff have blood but now, hmm...

if you don't buy NieR Replicant, you are not my friend, you never were my friend and you will die in the following winter, lonely, abandonded, shards of a broken dream in front of you and tears of regret running down your sorrowful face
Fine, fine. I've bought it. :flare_nekomimi:

Gotta say though, it feels weird playing Nier at 60fps. I half expected things will go pear-shaped and crash to desktop very soon, but SpecialK's frame limiter is very good and it's been pretty much smooth sailing so far. Better than my first hour of Near a tomato, at least.

Picked up the LudoNarraCon pack. The exclusive game was a cute 1 hour interactive experience. Lovely visuals, but not that deep. The bundled soundtracks are a nice sample of all the games but they're at different volumes lmao. The wallpapers are ok, depending on how much you like the art style of each game. This was a cool idea, I would totally go for a new pack next year.

Nier running pretty great over here, really weird to see the OG game running above 10 FPS. Some minor slowdowns when things get really hectic but overall I won the port lottery I guess

I was browsing the Ludonarracon page. Do they think I shit a bunch of extra hours in the day every morning ? Or do they assume I don't waste hours doing nothing but browsing ? :so-good-blob:
I should change that bad habit so much :sweaty-blob:

Replicant is somehow odd (at least on my PC) that it does not utilize all GPU (about 70%) and it cannot keep 60FPS at 4K. It stays 55-58FPS most of the time. When trying 1440P monitor it's stable 60FPS (with 40% utilization).

Downloading Humankind beta now. Also played a round of Chivalry 2 beta on EGS yesterday, got a key, it's good fun, but the rounds lasts way too long. Not sure if I will bother ask for a review key.

I only ask for review keys if the game is EGS exclusive and Im interested in it. Otherwise I wait for Steam release or I pirate until Steam release.

I'll be super curious to see a deep dive compare/contrast between this and Civ once it's been out in the wild for a bit.

I've got a really weird relationship with Amplitude where I see the quality on paper but I never manage to get hooked in. Maybe it's just a timing thing as I remember blowing off 4X (baby-games) around the time I was going deep on Paradox grand-strat.

Kind of ironic in that I'm trying to break into wargames these days via (wait for it) baby-games like UoC.

I have:
  1. downloaded the demo of It Takes Two (43 GB),
  2. played the demo,
  3. bought the main game,
  4. started the download of the main game (43 GB), with the plan to copy the demo content into the game content.
Well, it turns out Steam decided to delete the demo content at once, and then download the main game from scratch. :lul:

Thank you for uninstalling the demo without asking my permission, Valve. :wtf:

Apparently the term is not "Baby-Game" but "Beer and Pretzels" game. That's what i've learnt while drowning in information overload over on the Matrix Forums. A Beer and Pretzels game seems to be a game where you don't need an encylopeadic knowledge of the forces involved and the socio-economic history of the provinces they came from in order to play it and a turn can be completed in less than an evening. lol.

UoC and UoC 2 are great. It's been a long while since i've played them though as i kind of fell off the big strategy game trip i was on when i seemed like i was spending more time in manuals and forums than the game itself. I do have an itch to go back though and i'll probably do it via UoC too.

Only buy games on the Windows Store, so you can keep your demos. And your games. And copies of your games when uninstalled. And extra stuff that you don't know.
If you can't remove anything, you can't lose progress :evilblob:

I don't remember if the original Nier was like this, but am I the only one noticing some sort of motion blur / ghosting effect in Replicant?

Yeah, I've heard Beer & Pretzels bandied about in those circles. It's a perfect term to describe approachable, entry-level titles.

For some reason I randomly became completely enamored with the recent release of War in the East 2.

From a distance, mind you. That shit costs 80 bucks and isn't even on Steam yet. :p

But still, I'm looking at this 'monster' wargame (as they call it) with wistful eyes, thinking one day I'll be big-brain enough to take it on. Much like at one time I looked at PDX titles and just shook my head in perplexity & wonder.

So much like Civ helped onboard me to the likes of Crusader Kings & Europa Universalis, I'm looking at Unity of Command II to help nudge me closer to the will & tenacity to take on WitE2 sometime down the line.

UoC2 is one classy package either way though, even if my aptitude level caps then & there. My curiosity often outruns my skills in the strat genre, lol. So if I ultimately get relegated to the beer & pretzel-zone by way of UoC, I can certainly think of worse fates.

(Also, LOL at you mentioning a single turn taking an entire evening. I was looking a turn limits on UoC maps and thinking, "A 5-turn limit for this primary objective seems kinda short." Then I spent 1.5 hours mulling over my first move and was like, "Well then."

Aaron D. Keep an eye out on "IsThereAnyDeal", i picked up War In the East & West & DLC in various sales over the last couple of years for peanuts as they were on 70% sale at times, so £18 each for the main games and something like £6 for the DLCs. When i saw something on a sale i picked it up. Even though it's like buying a Steam Engine when you just about know enough to ride a bicycle.

I'm such an dummy, It seems that I have actually had my Steam key for Nier R since way back in March 21 when I validated my Snow White CE. And I could have actually been playing since day one if I had activated that. SE really needs to work on their back end of stuff.

-------

Also the CE cost like $180USD and is now being resold for around $400USD. dang

Decided to give Naraka a try. And wow, pretty impressed with the graphics menu! Took a look at the pcgaming wiki and there isn't any info available there yet.

It also has DLSS. This is definitely the first Unity game to be supporting it officially. The game also apparently has support for Checkerboard Rendering.

Graphics Menu:

Display Modes: Fullscreen, Borderless, Window
Rendering Scale: Only negatives values are supported.
FPS Cap: 30, 60, 120, 240, Unlimited.
HDR support
Anti-aliasing Types: Currently nothing to choose from.
Checkerboard Rendering: Not available in the beta.
DLSS: Quality, Balanced, Performance, Ultra Performance
Nvidia Reflex
Nvidia Highlights
Modelling Accuracy:
Low, Med, High - (LOD settings, perhaps?)
Tesellation: Low, Med, High
Effects Quality: Low, Med, High, Very High
Texture Quality: Low, Med, High
Shadow Quality: Low, Med, High, Very High
Volumetric Lighting: Low, Med, High, Very High
Volumetric Clouds: Low, Med, High

Any council members with opinions on Vermintide 2? Friend suggested my wife and I look into it (as we ran through L4D1 and 2 together last year), and we may need a break from our usual weekly game session game.

I'm loving Nier Replicant.
Well, except for the fragile delivery quests

0 issues with the PC port after using an external 60 FPS limit.

I personally wouldn't play it as a "service" game for a long time, but it's absolutely worth and great fun playing each of the missions once in co-op.

Started Titanfall 2 thanks to a month of EA Play and played around an hour.
The movement feels very nice and fluid. Combat is flashy but doesn't distract like modern Battlefield games either.
Guess it's due to the "old" tech powering it, but it running like a dream is a big boon, too.

Won 3 matches in a row in Naraka... although, I have feeling there are a lot of bots around? :minos_thonking:

I've never played a battle royale game before. Not into them. But the fact meele is a primary focus in Naraka stood out to me. Pretty fun so far!

The first playlist is against bots, the real playlist is only available after level 5, Game is really fun, but I don't know if the talent system gonna turn people off, their matchmaking better be fantastic.

edit: I was wrong, the playlist is the same, looks to me that as you level up, there is less bots.

I'm glad for all of you having fun with Nier, at least this one seems less bad than Automata.

Also, the amount of bullshit needing to be removed out of Win10 boggles my mind. Even the damn Settings menu had a header with an ad for MS that I ripped out. Thank you again Kvik and EdwardTivrusky, especially for that "shut up Windows 10" utility. It saved my bacon. I'm nearly done, I think.

Now if only Glass could work on the latest version :(.

It still seriously makes me sick how much advertising and shoved-in marketing for MS products there is in there. I could never use a vanilla version of 10.

Tinkering with Nier again just now. I wonder what's up with this GPU usage. At 5120x2880 with no AA, my 1080Ti topped at 90%. I turned on AA and it's still at 90%. And my CPU is barely used, hovering around 15-17%.

Frametimes is consistent enough, even though my framerate is only a little above 30fps at that resolution.
