I found DII fun, I finished it a while ago for maybe the second time (so I'm not of those addicts that still play it every day to this day and min max all the stats and gear). I couldn't stick with PoE or any of the other recent popular ones. But I want to see that sort of game do more stuff in line with Lost Ark (not the grind/p2w). I've probably only finished Diablo 1 on PlayStation, some other console game of that kind of era if they qualify, the first Torchlight and whatever else I forget atm.
Lost ark has a couple of good ideas which mostly got borrowed from blade and soul when it comes down to the combat. I've played it a lot, it's a downright average game pve wise (and on top of that the 2.0 patch made it as the grindiest mmo out there along with black desert online) BUT it's AN INCREDIBLE pvp game, theres absolutely nothing like it.

Also PoE pushed the whole genre extremely far in terms of mechanics in fights / boss fights. It has very interesting boss encounters and they keep it making it better which is nothing short of mind-blowing. Grim dawn is imho the only worthy contender, the customized side of it is absolutely nuts and every single system is purposeful + it has pretty nervous gameplay.

Torchlight is the perfect middle point, especially 2. These are all better games imho

Pre-ordering the game gives you access to open beta. But anyone know what does open beta entail?

Will it be content complete? Will your progress carry over to the launch version?

Shared Stash: Tab & Storage Updates
After careful deliberation, the Shared Stash will now have three tabs, rather than just one. Many players felt one tab wasn’t enough. When it comes to a player’s personal storage chest, we understand it’s serious business. This change will enable players to better organize their loot across three tabs (100 slots each) of storage space and store many more items.

The initial hype did seem to die down a bit. Even on enthusiast forums like d2jsp, there's not as much activity as there should be.

players who pre-purchased DIABLO® II: RESURRECTED™ or Diablo® Prime Evil Collection will be able to play the Early Access Beta at 10:00 a.m. (PDT). On those supported platforms, players will be able to preload the game starting August 11.
It's 3pm (Aug. 11) here, and I can't preload yet. But then again it's only about 6am PDT...

Starting Wednesday August 18, Windows® PC players will be able to pre-load the Open Beta via their Battle.net client.

Yeah I'd say the preload will start at the same time as beta access does (10am PDT), same thing with STEAM

RIP LAN Play and Coop for mods without own servers
A: TCP/IP support will not be available in the upcoming Beta or the final game. After careful
deliberation, we will no longer be supporting this option as we identified potential security risks and are committed to safeguarding the player experience.

Well this worked for like 20 minutes, but CTD every 5 or 10 minutes, now it just gets stuck on creating game, guess the servers are overloaded.

I had a pretty smooth run doing Den of Evil.... then the lower half of the map went black, and I can't create a new game.

There's a message in the launcher saying they're having server issues. Better now than at launch :)

Bugs apart, the game looks mostly gorgeous.

Not fond of the font and some UI elements, though; not "gritty" enough. D3 vibes.

edit the next day: and my progress has not been saved !

It's a bit buggy right now. Wait for the full release.

I played a little more, and was desynchronised in the underground passage. Funny to see enemies completely immobile...

Im considering getting it as I never played D2, but all the shit going over at Acti makes me hesitant, so I'll see what Im gonna do.

Usually I don't care much about what's going on with the devs of a game, but Acti case feels different, dunno why.

I have never played Diablo 2, interested in checking this out, as there is something about the look of it and the reverence it gets that pulls me in . Only issue is I always seems to burn out before finishing these types of games. (I have never completed so many that I own eg: grim dawn, titan quest, diablo 3 etc...).

Depends what you mean by "complete". If you mean "playing solo only and killing Diablo" (the original final boss; Baal with the extension), and know what you're doing, I don't think it takes that long to get to that point.

If you mean, "killing Baal in Hell", then.... that can be quite an undertaking, as you need to repeat the game thrice with the same char (Normal, Nightmare, Hell), and a very good build to be viable in Hell.

If you mean "getting all chars to lvl 99, getting all items, all runewords,....", then let's hope this pesky "mortality" problem gets figured out sometimes soon, because (still assuming solo only) you may need several lifetimes.

-----

HLTB puts main story completion at 35h. That sounds very high to me, for a player who wants to get through the story fast. There are only 4 acts in the Classic version (5 with LoD), and Act 4 is very short.

Then again, it has been well over a decade since I played on Normal, starting from scratch, so perhaps I misremember.

My philosophy with ARPGs is that you don't need to beat them. Set your own goals and play them at your own pace, because they games are designed to be almost infinitely replayable, more than other genres.

If you like the combat, gearing up, theorycrafting builds, etc. you have many goals ahead of you and you can always decide when the game is "done" in your own terms.

It's my favorite genre btw.

Definitely the first one, which is why I feel like I need to complete one of them one day.

Yeah, I can definitely see that. Grim Dawn for instance is the game I got the furthest in with the genre. I get distracted after making my way through and end up leaving it. When I get back to it a number of months later, I end up restarting with a different build, and it still feels fresh. So I can see the addictive side that can creep in with the build variety.

I can't believe there are no reviews for this. I need to read some Switch reviews to see how well it runs.

Been playing this for over an hour since it launched on PC.
No crashes at all, think the crashes in the Beta were due to my GPU overheating which I've fixed by redoing the thermal paste.
Running a Smiter Pally at the minute.
Managed to make a game online, but after exiting it, the servers seem overloaded, so I'm playing offline with the same build.

For solo players who don't mind a (small) boost, I made a small charm, using UDieToo, that provides a ton of +gold and +magic find, as well as the find item skill.

It's not broken by any means, given the sharply diminishing returns on those attributes. You get basically the same effects as a dedicated MF build, in a small charm. I still don't expect to find a Stone of Jordan. Ever :-(

It does not help with runes at all, as they are unaffected by MF.

The display of the "close to dawn" properties is broken in the inventory (very large numbers), but has a normal and measurable effect in the advanced stats screen, so it should be OK. There is a version of the charm without those.

Playtested for a bit with old D2 a few weeks ago. Has not broken D2R in a couple minutes test. That's all.

------

Does anyone know whether ladder-only runewords are available in solo play in D2R? There was talk about that at some point but I haven't followed...

Stayed up until 2:30 in the morning beating act 1. Rushing through while also getting all the waypoints.

Came home to start Act 2 and couldn't find my character. At first I thought my sorc had disappeared. On the contrary, she was an offline character because my wifi is weak upstairs in my bed.

At least think that's what happened.

Sigh. I think I'll start a hardcore necromancer instead of resuming that sorc.

HELP! How do i have fun in D2 again?
Back in the days i played D2 Offline a lot, as a barbarian, a sorceress, a amazone, a paladin, etc. I have never used a build guide or anything like that. No think only play.

Now i have bought D2R and expected to have fun again, only to find out i have no fun. :( Nothing feels right. I have the nagging feeling that i do not play perfectly. :( Reading some build guides made this feeling worse. I guess i think too much about the right choices for skills and attributes. :(

So can you play it while offline?
Yes.

I'm one of the ppl who does not want to though. At some point I want to be able to play with others for Baal run and hell rushes.

Play what feels good. Don't worry about "builds" until you keep getting smacked down by the same area or boss in Nightmare mode. Maybe tough it out until hell.

Then you can consider a respec into one of the tried-and-true builds.

Today I learned (or was reminded) that potion duration stacks. In particular, thawing potion.

It made a tremendous difference in my merc's survivability against Duriel.

And so it was that for the very first time, I killed Duriel with my min-VIT sorc without either dying or causing a nation-wide shortage of town portals.

----

Unrelated: I had tremendous trouble making Gidbinn drop in Act 3. Probably not D2R-related because I recall that happening from time to time before.
