I don't like the look of the gigantic boobs lady but the rest seems nice and they didn't seem to focus on the fan service too much besides her. The other boob lady wasn't presented as provocatively. I hope I can play it without buying a PS4. I watched the anime series and a movie recently (but not the various Ovas and other available stuff yet) and it was pretty damn awesome! I intend to play the Wii release at some point because of it. Though none of the (relatively) recent cast seems to beat the original from the early games and anime series change was inevitable if not welcome. I guess it would be bad if they just recycled the same stuff but we missed most of it in the West. Imperial Flower Combat Troupe 4 Ever! At least these are direct successors in Tokyo, not some other nation's division like in 5's New York.

They're also calling it a "dramatic 3D action adventure" so I wonder what that means for the battle phases. Hopefuly it's engaging and tactical as the theme intends, not just button mashy pushovers. They do stress it's a deep & rewarding system taking full advantage of unique squad member capabilities. Since the Kobu are essentially mechs I wonder if we'll see any simy aspects. Probably not but that would be cool, a Japanese MechWarrior vs demonic beasts. Well, at least I hope they somehow feel mechanical and powerful, not like a mech skin for an otherwise normal action character.

Looks alright, not fan of most of the characters but the kunoichi girl looks cute, must say bigger fan of the old chara designs.
Nevertheless, this could be really good.

Do you need to play the previous Sakura Wars games to understand this? Because only one title got localized from what I understand.

It's the first in ages (2005 in Japan, came 5 years later here and not by SEGA) and the 2nd they release in the West, they wouldn't require previous games :p

It sounds like a soft reboot, not pretending that the previous games' events didn't happen but simply re-introducing the world as they're bound to explain the state it is currently in, a decade after whatever cataclysmic event, and present a new cast as you interact with them, even if they reference older events and characters here and there. The first games also reference older characters and events you never saw, things happened in their world before players went in.

Sounds great!

I like that art tbh. Except the way the sword sheath looks bent, haha. Cos it's a scan and that's the middle of the two pages xD

And the side boob.

I think the game art mostly looks nice except that one lady. And I think she's the one supposed to play the male roles in the plays going by that information on Gematsu. Like, where will those fit. Or are they like that to give us scenes where they try to squeeze them in outfits that don't let them show...

Oh and also having two characters with similar atire even if different colors and other subtle differences.

And that girl didn't have to look up to original Sakura enough to dress like her, heh. But I can get past it, they want to continue the line and Sakura is in the name! Then again So Long my Love barely shows Sakura at all so I guess they didn't HAVE to do this anyway. Oh well. They probably hope for many direct sequels.

One also has to wonder how far they may take the date sim elements given we're in a timeline where even Fire Emblem let you fondle characters etc. Hopefully they don't add something like that in the scenes where you can "inspect" characters for commentary or choose to talk to them and stuff. Or make it easily ignorable. Personally I would have appreciated the games more if it was more like friendship based social links rather than hitting on all the ladies and giving you opportunities to stare at them and such. More like the anime then, which I guess was neutral to not go against the canon of the players? I don't know. Well, So Long my Love is my only point of reference and I try to keep it friendly with everyone, haha. Maybe less so with Gemini, the kids seem to match well xD

  • 27:51 to 28:28 – LIPS Gameplay
  • 45:58 to 47:22 – New Characters Introduction
  • 55:50 to 58:16 – Adventure Part Introduction
  • 1:00:11 to 1:03:30 – LIPS Gameplay
  • 1:04:18 to 1:05:09 – Event Gameplay
  • 1:06:17 to 1:19:25 – Adventure Part Gameplay (Great Imperial Theater)
  • 1:21:04 to 1:24:06 – Adventure Part Gameplay (Great Imperial Theater)
  • 1:25:30 to 1:26:38 – Adventure Part Gameplay (Large Bath House Locker Room)
  • 1:27:58 to 1:30:22 – Adventure Part Gameplay (Hangar)

This looks great, I only have minor complaints, some characters look samey and others almost like One Piece caricatures (boob lady, komachi ooba).

Looks like action isn't just battle phases but also exploration of the areas the enemies show up in while using the mechs.

I guess they're gonna be like "dungeons" rather than being taken to an encounter and then back out to the adventure.

It's a weird decision. You'd think they'd at most adopt the fake-action style of Valkyria Chronicles or something.

Oh well. It's a shame but I'm not giving up on the game itself yet. It could still be solid, just not an SRPG.

Weird decision for sure. You'd think they'd at most adopt the fake-action stuff of Valkyria Chronicles to match.
With how much this industry likes 'inspiration', it's too bad no one really used VC system.
