Yeah, I've also encountered that. Somewhat similar to another issue where the FPS overlay stays visible even when its disabled. Both are always fixed for me by going into the menu and switching the overlay to something else and back once so I never mentioned it.

I tried booting Deus Ex Mankind Divided on the Deck today.

Has anyone else tried it?
I got some insane load times on start, like 1-2 minutes just to get to the menu, then another 1-2 minutes before reaching in game. Also, there was a Linux incompatibility warning on start.

It looks like you booted the linux port, try switching the compatibility to Proton.

Tested to change to Proton Experimental quickly. The initial load period was nowhere to be seen, and loading the initial save took ~1 minute. Not bad! Definitely more playable than before!

Who would have guessed it would be more efficient to emulate Windows than run a native Linux port?

I was recently playing the DXMD Linux port as well - on my Linux laptop, not the Deck, but I had the same experience with the long first load. However, after that, it was smoother but it did have weird random lags/stutter.... which isnt ideal.

and Yeaah the Proton vs. Native Linux thing is interesting, I know, and there were a couple of people of the opinion that Proton becoming prevalent because its so good would harm native Linux builds. Of course, native builds would be great, but Proton IS awesome, what can I say :) And someone here (might have been Mivey, I think?) once stated that maybe one day there'd just be one (windows) build and Proton would do the rest. I think thats very possible.

I just default to the Windows version through Proton for 99.9% of all games. Games that still use OpenGL on Linux are often missing graphical effects, have performance issues or just don't work due to some dependency breaking. For Vulkan games sometimes modding is not supported, or you need a modloader that is not available under Linux (Most notable Vox Populi for Civ 5).

I got the (Valve) dock. The experience is pretty nice. Auto selects external display resolution and scales the UI as you'd expect. Tested some native games, Dolphin, and Remote Play. It all works and looks all right for the Deck on a 4K display.

I could be wrong, but does it change the default internal resolution while docked as well? HL2 was reporting 1080p as the native res. I know you can change it though.

Steam :: Steam Deck :: Steam Deck: Component Lookup View

"A quick note on the fan component: Earlier in the year we investigated reports about fan noise, and rolled in an engineered foam solution on the Steam Deck backplate to reduce noise. This noise mitigation solution is now being applied to both models of fans used in Steam Deck (Delta and Huaying), and both fan models are still in use and being shipped out to customers today. "

explains why i never had issues with my fans despite being the old ones lol

I like how you (read: I) gradually ease into the more advanced features of the Steam Deck environment.
Activating the grip buttons was a small step. Customizing them to toggle functions that are un-toggleable in the games themselves are were I'm currently at.

Great to toggle instinct mode in Hitman 3 with a button press instead of having to hold in the button.

So I haven't posted in this thread since a day before I got it.

Have to say I'm pretty impressed with this little machine. I have only tried a few games on it but so far pretty cool.

I've also set up Emudeck (had to do it twice, because some emulators didn't show up on my first try, not sure why) and tried a couple of GBA games (I should try other emulators to see how it runs).

A nice feature for Valve to add. It's things like this why calling the Steam Deck a console is doing it a disservice. Consoles lock you in and take options away from you. The Steam Deck is a portable PC that is as open as it can be and actively tries to be as transparent about everything.

Console like experience, without any of the drawbacks.

The Steam Deck seems somewhat capable of running "next gen" only games. There are pretty nasty frame drops, but the fact it can be done at all is impressive to me. I think the Deck's performance for high end games will peter out when UE5 releases are commonplace, but that probably won't be for another year or two.

huh, Plague Tale 2 didnt even start on my Deck. Thought I'd wait for some Proton patches before I try it again (runs fine on my Linux laptop though)

~
UE5: Epics secret weapon against the Steam Deck: just make the engine demanding as hell and the Deck wont play those UE5 games. Combine it with Epic pushing UE to absolutely every gamedev until it becomes the only engine in existance, and Tim will get finally his revenge on Valve for releasing an amazing handheld :p

The GabeBoy 2 will make short work of it.

To be fair, those 2 games are terribly optimized with too high minimum specs required. They even work at 30 fps on PS5/XSX with no option for performance mode.
I finished Plague Tale last night and some of the final sections have so many rats on screen that I was impressed the Series X could run it at 30 FPS.

Gotham Knights looks like garbage though so I'll give you that one.

Steamdeck offline experience is still really subpar. I lost internet connection due to maintenance and now I get cloud sync errors for every game I played. Some games don't even launch anymore because it cant sync the save file due to file conflicts.

Yes I have tried pretty much every trick to get it to sync... Not looking forward to losing my save files.

You have to start the game, this way steam will ask you which save you want to keep on the Cloud. After that It should "fix" the Sync error

Manually getting into offline mode is pretty OK by now. when travelling on a train for a couple hours, it was pretty reliable that way.
I think what Valve has to still nail is when connection is lost unexpectedly, and automatically switch to offline mode.

Several games are stuck in launching fase and thus I dont get that screen. I have deleted proton prefixes, pressed some buttons in the UI, removed save games, reinstalled. Launched through desktop mode and still a no go. Maybe things will get resolved once I am back home at my Linux box.

Oh well Vampire Survivors was addictive as fuck so me not being able to play is a good thing ;)

Edit: Couple of hours later. Go home Steam you're drunk. Fixed all issues by some file movement and konsole fuckery. Not user friendly at all but hey. Why there was a file conflict no freaking idea.

you can tap "out of sync" message bar that is under the play button to sync saves. Did you try that?

Hmh can't even start Vampire Survivors on my laptop, it says other device needs to upload savefile first. Why Can't I just download it!
What if you right click the Vampire Survivors in the Steam Library, go to properties and untick the box saying something about keeping the saves in the cloud? If you have the latest saves localy then maybe this will atleast allow you to play the game.

The problem is since I had to factory reset my deck, which means the saves only exist in the cloud. I really don’t want to lose them!😱

Try contacting Steam Support. Maybe you found new bug or something.

Valve: This game is Steam Deck verified
Game: Videos don't play

(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

Game in question is Iwaihime and the videos in question are "just" the openings but my god is this frustrating, and this has no business being marked officially verified. Is there an official channel where I can contact them aside from clicking No when I get asked if the Verified status matches my experience after playing?

Now the funny thing is that by switching to Proton Experimental the video actually works properly.
...The first one that is.
The game plays the opening after every chapter as a bookend, and it went fine for a couple chapters but now I ran into one that doesn't work again.
Sigh. I don't even know how this is possible. Are they just... using 2 entirely separate shitty codecs in one single game?

I wish that
1) (Japanese) devs stop being idiots using stupid useless proprietery Windows features and
2) Valve sorts that shit out for good.

I love my Deck but I keep running into these shitty video issues and it's just annoying as hell

Supposed to have my Dock arriving today, but Parcelforce fucked up delivery on Tuesday and are attempting again today.

I have little hope this will be resolved and I will be onto support yet again.
