From an August Q&A with Squeenix new president that was made public today, he wants to identify existing IPs that could potentially be upgraded to AAA status:
Q: What do you hope to accomplish now that you have assumed the role of president?
A: I want to improve our profitability. I see ample room for improvement in our operating profit margin and would like to start
by working primarily on our HD games.
In addition, rather than solely attempting to create brand‐new IPs, we intend take a nuanced approach to investment whereby
we also identify existing IPs with the potential to be upgraded to AAA status, taking ROI into account as well. In so doing, we
hope to establish greater depth to the layers of our portfolio.

So, my current fort had a werebeast attack

Immediately, seeing its close proximity to the entrance castle, I had the gate sealed to ensure the safety of the townsfolk, activated the Burrow, and locked the hatches for good measure. Unfortunately, I was not aware that a Legendary Planter was outside at the time, who had now volunteered himself for the Dwarven Space Program.

The Urist I mission unfortunately ended in failure as our Cosmonaut failed to achieve Exit Velocity and instead landed in the river. It is unfortunate that this happened and we wish we could've saved him, but as Effective Altruists our resources were better spent trading with the Merchants down below in the foyer - One death is a tragedy, but the Certified Pre-Owned Iron and Copper arms and armor we were selling below the surface would save far more lives in the long term.

Meanwhile, below, two Entry Level employees with ten+ years of experience failed to clock in for their shifts, faking sickness by being drained of blood in their Podhomes. Needing to hold someone accountable for this Time Clock Theft the Captain of the Guard diligently proceeded to interrogate the first dwarf he could find with a Dress Code Violation several times until the scum confessed to stealing an artifact a century ago. Captain Lolor had found the worst kind of criminal: A socialist. Clearly one one of Urist Bibaniden's 87,000 new tax-collectors.

Naturally, as Taxation is Theft, this criminal scum was sentenced to 60 hammerstrikes for this horrific crime and mandated to attend a 260 day seminar warning against the dangers of unionization for their role in the truancy of the two workers. Once this rehabilitation has been concluded, HR has determined that this employee will be assigned to Lever Duty for the remainder of their indefinite contract.

Unfortunately, the Teamsters who were handling our Outside Logistics were not fond of the Security Lockdown of the office that had been enacted to protect the workplace from the Werebeast threat outside, and while taking an unauthorized tour of the lower mines, one of them proceeded to take their socks and shoes off and accost a member of his own armed security detail with the footwear. The attempted rioter was swiftly put down by said brave security-volunteer (We back the Steel in this fortress), and the lockdown was lifted to prevent further unrest. Unfortunately however, one of the other merchants tripped leaving the warehouse and drowned in the moat before drainage procedures could be executed, leaving their pack-camel loose which was described now as "running around crazed" in the field.

As a result of this werebeast attack, five dwarves had tragically lost their lives without any combat having been reported with the monster. After an initial disciplinary-investigation by HR into the five terminated employees, it was determined that the werebeast reported outside the fortress had fallen into the river and drowned before the castle-gate was even closed. Following this finding, it was determined that any AD&D Claims pertaining to these five dwarves were not the fault of the company, and as such the claims have been rejected, and pensions and life-insurance policies for the affected have been terminated with-cause.

Fortunately, it was determined that all this quarter's exports had safely exfiltrated from the grounds, and that the two decedent merchants and the loose pack-animal were not carrying any of our product.

Another profitable day in Cobaltmine!
Cobaltmine is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Deep Rock Galactic GmbH, All Rights Reserved

Sure, five dwarves died needless deaths, but we created a lot of value for shareholders.

What I got from the Microsoft leak is that I really should get another hobby because gaming is going to shit.
I wouldn't pay much attention to acquisitions part of that leak, in a leak from a few months ago that was dated after that leaked email (2021), neither nintendo or valve were listed in their acquisition targets anymore (possibly due to how unrealistic they were?).

That MS wants to acquire everything and everyone is no surprise, but it's clear that most of their targets are not going to happen (not only they would have to be willing to sell, which many aren't, some of their targets have even already been acquired by others, such as bungie and zynga).

Question about Steam collections.
Is there a way to not share Steam collections on different devices with the same account?.
I want to have my Steam library arranged different on Deck and Desktop but when I do something on my Desktop like remove a collection or create a new one it replicates on Deck and vice versa.
thanks.

The best thing about the leaks is the prospect of Dishonored 3. I really did not expect Arcane to ever get the chance to make another one of these. I wonder if it was MS that greenlighted the project, or if this was already decided under Zenimax.

NieR Automata has sold almost 8million units with overwhelmingly positive feedback.

It's prime time for the next Taroverse game to get an AAA budget, and I am not even being a little sarcastic.
Kingdom Hearts on Steam, A new Yoko Taro game, or me finding a girlfriend that loves me unconditionally, what will happen first???
ALL BETS ARE STILL OPEN!!

There's been new Yoko Taro games every year since 2021, but it's been just mobile games and voice of cards.
You reminded me about Voice of Cards and Dungeon Encounters.
Slightly curious about both, but 15 bucks a pop on sale is asking for much. Typical Sqeenix and their overinflated sense of worth.

It has always been clear that Gaben will never sell. Really the question will always be "what will happen after Gaben?" Not only in acquisitions but in many others, will Valve continue with its horizontal structure? Will they think about going public?
That’s what scares me a bit.

The first one will never happen so you can strike it off the list.

I think in the Epic v Apple trial there was a microsoft slide with their estimations of valve's revenue. Wonder if it's changed that much.
I tried to pull up those old documents but AFAIK they have been removed. IIRC the Apple/Epic valuation was pre-COVID so it was likely a good chunk lower.

Noped out of copying 10 go to the Deck. Neither the SSD nor the SD gave me an estimate of less than an hour.
Not sure if I set up my sftp correctly, but fuck that noise.

Yes, and english patch is out.

I was kinda hoping for a sale though. Not yet up on other stores either.
Does NISA usually do launch discounts? I'm only holding off on buying in case they're simply slow to flip the switch on that...

Also, it seems they brought back the launch-limited free Soundtrack, so that's cool. I was still kicking myself for missing out on it when the port first launched. Now Cold Steel III and IV will be the only ones I'm missing. I kinda hate NISA's practice of having bonuses that are only available at launch...

edit: Hmm, maybe? The entire add to cart section is gone for me right now lol

I don't think they do, but I was hoping they would since it's technically been out on Steam for a while, but I realize that doesn't really cound since it was JP only, lol.

Not sure why it's gone for you, but they've added a "Launch Week" bundle, maybe it's acting up because of that.
It also looks like it's slowly appearing on other stores, i.e GMG. Personally waiting for Fanatical or Humble to come through.

Yeah, I think it just disappeared while they were setting up the bundle. I went ahead and bought it from Steam directly. It's already kinda cheap, it's not like a small discount is going to make a huge difference in this case, unlike full priced games.

Mortal Kombat 1 agonizes on Deck :-/ it's not Switch levels but you need to sacrife a lot to run it decent and even this way performance it's not the optimum for a fighting game -there are appreciable bottleneck and slowdowns-, and just with few minutes of gameplay (let's say 20 mins) Deck reach high temperature and unacceptable fan sound. Something weird too is the annoying time -It's little but it's not immediate like it's on other platforms- it takes to load when there's an animation like character selection, fatalities, or so...

Holy armoured difficulty spike, Batman!

Playing AC6, a bit every now and then; 26h in, taking my time. The game is mostly easy as π, but with a few pointy, pointy difficulty spikes thrown in, especially if you want all hidden items and combat logs (and I do)

The Helicopter, Balteus (done before patch; I have now idea how he is now), and Sea Spider were tough for me. Balteus nearly filtered me; mostly because at that point I had no idea what I was doing, honestly, and was not enjoying the game yet. Also because the game crashed during the fight, once. (I'm on Linux; that's the only crash I've had with the game ever).

But "Intercepting the Redguns"... I must have spent at least 3 hours on it --- time spent reading rants about the mission on forums not included --- before beating it, and I tried soooo many different weapons and even different leg types in the process. (End result: maximum tankiness, minimum skill, dual bad cooks, dual songbirds.)

You never know what to expect when you go on a mission. Fingers-in-the-nose easy or straight-up unfair. Rarely in between (normal bosses). I'm not sure whether I hate it or love it. Mostly the former until I win; then the latter. It's been a while since beating a boss/mission prompted me to stop and go tell somebody about it, so AC6 must be doing something right :)

Also, killing G1 Michigan did 2700 AP of plasma damage to my heart .

I'm surprised this isn't making more waves... We finally have concrete PC Gamepass numbers! Not just for fiscal year 2022, but also the previous year because of that YoY percentage!
....Why the hell were they expecting ten million more active users in one year???

Felt like they've stopped doing discounts since Trails Zero, all coupons/discounts seem exclude NISA titles these days.

At some point Valve will get bought out, it is inevitable. Valve is a very small company among behemoths, one of them will swallow it eventually. Gabe's heirs will sell as soon as a gigantic offer comes in unless Gabe himself can make other arrangements that prohibit such a sale. In any case, like Reed Richards said:

The best we can hope for is that such a sale happens long after we are all half-senile old farts.
I for one will embrace the inevitable Sega purchase of Steam, to be implemented in the exclusively somnolent VR system Dreamcast 2 (a sleep-based gaming system like the fictional one in Hynospace Outlaw). I accept this.

It's one of my favourite missions. I did it in two tries. The first try was because I ran out of ammo (how typical), so it's a slugfest to take care of the random MT stragglers. Taking care of G1 Michigan as simple enough, however, there are two drones that is flying outside the area of engagement that my plasma missiles can't reach, so I was forced to restart the mission. :flare_lmao:

I managed to clear the mission with dual laser rifles and dual plasma missile launchers, this time with ammo to spare. :flare_bath:

Assuming the numbers about Valve making 6 billion in yearly revenue is true, then no, Valve isn't small. They are in monetary terms bigger than most publishers, except the absolutely largest ones, and there aren't that many of those out there. Purchasing it would likely require something in the same ballpark as the deal with Activision, which was absolutely bonkers itself. 40 billion quid. That's not something any company can spend, except the largest ones on Earth. Apple, Microsoft, and I guess a couple of oil giants, theoretically.

I don't see Valve getting bought out as inevitable at all. We have no idea about the ownership structure. I doubt GabeN owns all of it, he will likely pass his shares to some people in the company, even 25% would be enough to give the employees a say in any possible buy out deal.

The more likely scenario I can envision is that Valve without GabeN might slowly shift its priorities away from creating and doing interesting things, and trying to extract more and more money and slowly ruing the thing. Do not see that as likely either, but I do think the most likely danger to Valve in the future is Valve itself.

Lies of P looks really nice, clean, consistent and performs near flawlessly (so far) on a PC that usually struggles with new games. I thought I had enough of Souls after Elden Ring but it seems fun enough so far, maybe it was the generic open world bloat that wore thin instead of the gameplay style.

Looks like WB removed MK1 from all of Latin America to increase the price? WB gotta be the worst publisher on PC lol

I'm sure that'll stop pirates.
and the initial price wasn't even good, like, AT ALL, it was waaaaaaaaay above volvo's recommendations

I always sort of imagined Valve would go towards being entirely employee owned before they ever decided to sell themselves to a mega corporation.

I know gabe is gabe but I sort of have to wonder if he's more of a figurehead more than anything else at this point as opposed to something more hands on for things day to day.

Who knows? It's not like i'm going to have any chance at affecting anything with all this bs so I don't really care. I have too much to worry about that doesn't involve my primary HOBBY
