I mean capcom does the same thing with monster hunter, and people end up buying it on multiple places to play with friends or to not miss out on hype or the experience/whatever

I think it's horribly stupid but I get it
I'm curious though... what is there to get? Is there a secret to the strategy of missing out on revenue for so many companies like Rockstar, Epic, Ubisoft et al? Where's the benefit?

Shocked but not surprised that R* are still doing this even in 2025 after how big pc gaming and streaming culture particularly has grown

and personally I’ve never been convinced of the double dipping argument, I can’t recall ever seeing any hard numbers backing it up

The reason it’s not on PC is because it’s gonna sell a bazillion copies on the consoles. Rockstar literally don’t give a fuck about their PC versions and they never have. “You want it on PC? Fuck you, buy a console.”

It’ll come when it comes to PC. And it’ll probably be as boring as their other recent releases so whatever.

I don't know what everyone is smoking, but GTA VI looks absolutely incredible ! Not only does it looks insanely good from a tech point of view but a love story with a couple as the main protagonists, sign me the fuck up! Also the choice of setting also seems perfect to deal with all the craziness that is happening in the US(and in all of the world). I do worry that they won't dear to deal with the most obvious issues in the world.

It looks like every other modern Rockstar game: overly po-faced and faux philosophical.

I expect I’ll hate it as much as I hated all their games since RDR1.

I hear you, but Im just glad we are getting an attempt at least because no else is really trying. There are too few games that take place in a "real" world that deals with humans that doesn't involve any kind of military, magic or fantasy things.

I have never been interested in the Rockstar style of games, luckily.

It's funny, back up to and including the PS3 generation I had to get consoles for JRPGs, and I never thought there would be a day where most JRPGs are more consistently and readily available on PC than games by a western Publisher.

Same tbh. I only got the last GTA to play online with friends, and once the main online quests were done we stopped. I did enjoy RDR2 though.

Same for me, I bought a PS2 in 2010! because this was the first time I had excess money (that wasn't going into my PC gaming), because of Final Fantasy X and XII. I also fell in Love with the Persona series because of an impulse buy for the PS2 after I finished the FF games.
Then I bought a PS3 for FF13.

After that, I saw no reason to buy a Playstation anymore (apart from the FF series going to shit).

I really want to give the more modern GTAs a try, Left the series after Vice-City, and wasn't impressed with San Andreas. I think with GTA IV they started to focus a lot more on characters, so I will play that at some point and see if it holds up.

I had a PS2 in the early~mid 2000s, bought my first FF game back then, FF10, as an impulse purchase, but the games I was into the most back then were the Dragon Ball Budokai/Budokai Tenkaichi games. I remember going to a games store in a nearby city on the release day or a few days after release of one of these DB games, only to be told to return in 1 week because it wasn't available there yet, and returning 1 week later it still not being available. :/

After the PS2 era, I played mostly just MMOs and emulated GBA/DS games, stopped following games in general outside of MMOs, until the late 2000s when I learned that digital distribution was a thing on PC and fully embraced PC gaming since then.

Getting retail games for consoles that I wanted was a pain here, I still ended getting a Wii in 2010 (got a red special edition Wii), got a bunch of games I wanted for it but there was one I could not get at all because it wasn't available anywhere, Xenoblade Chronicles.
Same with 3DS and older DS Pokemon games, when I got a 3DS it was already too late for me to be able to get Pokemon Platinum and Soul Silver.

Basically the main reason I embraced PC gaming back then was that getting retail games was a pain and digital distribution was still lacking on consoles.
Once consoles started getting more into digital distribution though, they all went with paid online multiplayer, which is a no thanks for me.

On another note, funny that some of my favourite franchises started as impulse purchases, PSO on the dreamcast (even if I'm not happy with NGS, it still remains a franchise I like alot) and FF10 on the PS2.

So no Steam release ‘til PS6 and next XBOX version.
The next consoles are due in 2028. This game is out in 2025. They will definitely get the PC version out before the next console hardware cycle.

Ignoring GTA and asking in a more general way, are double dippers a statistically significant number to matter for companies ? I keep reading about it in gaming places but I've never seen any information backing that up.
The real question is whether there is a statistically significant number of PC only gamers who are genuinely interested in GTA but will then decide to not buy it because it comes to PC one year late. That number is definitely dwarfed by people who will double dip.

Anecdotal, but a friend of mine has gone the full PS3->PS4->PS5->PC route.
Yeah I got a PS3 when RDR came out and got GTA5 there too. Then I bought it again when it came to Steam. I bought a PS4 pro when RDR2 came out and bought the game again when it came to Steam. Then I bought the PS5 version of GTA5 as well. I'm planning to swap my launch PS5 for the rumored PS5 pro and will definitely get GTA6 for it before I inevitably buy it again when it comes to Steam.

My only complaint with the trailer, if you can even call it a complaint, was that everything they showed seemed realistic and plausible. Which is kind of a reflection about the state of the world and social media shenanigans. GTA is supposed to be a satirical, absurd and somewhat surreal action comedy franchise. But in 2023 we've all read enough Florida man stories and seen enough social media reels to the point where all the bits of the trailer that were supposed to be funny or ridiculous just seemed 'normal'. I hope they go over the top with the writing of the characters & story and the mission design.

Yep, but the question that matters is when on Steam. If is time exclusive to Rockstar Social launcher or EGS (if this one exist by that time)… after already console exclusive… meh.

The main thing I noticed about GTA 6 is the density. Tons of NPCs everywhere and the first time I can remember a metro area in a game actually looking like one.

My guess is they'll repeat RDR2 and do RGL and EGS exclusive for a month with a Steam release afterwards. Maybe Valve will be more proactive about getting it on their platform at release, but I have my doubts.

I love GTA games and Rockstar games so there is big chance that I will either borrow PS5 or even buy used one to play GTA VI. It sucks that R* is still treating PC as garbage but I can sell console copy and get PC version when it comes so I technically won't give them money twice.

Also I just saw that Ubisoft started forcing console players to make Ubisoft accounts to play their games xD you can't play Avatar on consoles without account and going online for mandatory day 1 patch XD

I have finished every GTA game before V but I still haven't bought V or RDR2. My basic issue is that Rockstar's mission design doesn't seem to have changed much, it's still of the overly scripted "move a few meters away from the intended path and you fail the mission" variety that has gotten really old by now and really clashes with their open-world design. Another worry specifically about GTA VI is that the success of GTA Online will result in a singleplayer campaign that will mostly be an afterthought.

And of course as long as they keep doing staggered releases on PC I refuse to pay full price for them so specifically for me GTA VI is many, many years away. Yes, I understand that this is the Homer Simpson meme of "you just lost yourself a customer" but I don't do it to hurt Rockstar and T2, I do it because it feels right to me.

RGL first, then Steam + Epic at the same time, forget about the 1 month thing for the lolz, this ain't 2019.

I know I was half asleep when I saw it but did they show any gameplay at all? From what I remember all I saw were in-engine (supposedly) cinematics.
Feels like the hype train for CP2077 where people are settings themselves to get burned.

Rockstar always show actual in-game footage for GTA. Check out the GTA4 and 5 reveal trailer. I would say some places look even better in-game.

As others have said what you see is what you get or even better. Rockstar has a way of underselling their games. Which helps them in the long run.

That is not really the same. It happened with Monster Hunter World and you could say that was the on Monster Hunter devs, it was the first time putting a Monster Hunter game on PC for world wide release. And even at release and going forward it had connectivity issues.

As for Monster Hunter Rise that's because Nintendo paid Capcom. There is even leaked documents backing this up. Nintendo paid them not to put it on other consoles for a while, PC didn't have to wait as long since Nintendo was not concerned as much about that. After the time passed and the contract was fulfilled, Capcom was allowed to release Monster Hunter Rise on the other consoles.

Monster Hunter Stories 2 launched on PC and Switch at the same time.

Hey, Le Pertti 's post reminded me. I need some enlightening about Ipads and Headphones.

Yesterday I tried pluging the new headphones I had gathering dust on my barely surviving ipad, and it... worked ?
So 'vanilla' the cable of the headphones doesn't fit completely in the ipad. Ok. They give an adapter in the box with different jacks for people who need to plug audio and voice separately. And with the adapter the audio cable gives audio !
Yeah, what a surprise !
That being said, the same cable doesn't fully enter the ipad and it doesn't take that much force to unplug it and lose audio in the middle of a film.

But my ipad has suffered its share of floor drop.

So my basic question. Is it normal for an audio cable to not fully stick in the ipad ? Or maybe it's my ipad jack that got warped with a fall ?

On steam, is it possible to see which soundtrack in ones library is Flac? other than downloading it.
In Steam Settings > Music > Toggle "Download High Quality Audio Files " and it'll download ... both MP3 and FLAC, it seems.

However, there seems to be no option to see which soundtracks will have FLAC, as per Steams Soundtrack Sale page from sometime ago, "By default, every soundtrack contains a full set of MP3 files. Soundtracks can also contain a free secondary set of audio files (for example, FLAC) that offer higher quality than compressed MP3s. These files are often larger and many customers prefer just the MP3s, so downloading these additional files is optional. You can opt in to larger downloads on the Music page in Steam Settings."

My best suggestion is to click "Download album" (it wont download them immediately) and you should gauge by file size whether FLAC (or similar) is included.

But it's funny because it's always PC, if they wanted to maximize revenue they would probably release it on PS5 and PC first since I'd argue they're the 2 biggest platforms at this time. But no, they always put it on Xbox day 1 even though Xbox is such a failing platform since the Xbox One days

Same thing for RDR1, the rumors for a PC version of that game have been going around since 2010. They re-released it on PS4 and Switch, not even modern consoles- The dislike ratio for that trailer shows the people's feeling about that, there's no way they wouldn't know about how badly people want RDR1 on PC. Maybe, aside from the double-dipping argument, they might also have some contempt against people modding their games. But that's just my take on that.
