Wonder when in the canon this is playing, as Riker is looking pretty young there.
Probably not long after the last TNG movie.

Uniform is from that period (during and post-Dominion War), and Riker left the Enterprise for his own command at that point.

What is suprising is that only Starfield has actually felt unplayable on the HDD. I was 100% expecting Cyberpunk to be that game, but Cyberpunk was fully playable.
I remember Prey 2017 being an SSD moment for me. The load times when switching areas in that game were horrible on a HDD. And when you have to go back and forth through the station a few times, well...

In these 16 minutes there's less than 1 minute spent on a vague glossed over game performance graph, these are primarily handheld PC gaming devices, no?
Looking at the specs online, it has a 44Wh battery, and there's a max load of 25Wh, so that would mean at max power draw it is at under 2 hours, a bit over 100 minutes, so I'm a bit confused there unless there is a version with 50Wh too.

I wonder what space is left in the scene for Bioware and their new GaaSon Age
This is a single player only game, and they even stated there will be no live service elements. Similar to the Dead Space remake in this regard. I'm not expecting this to be a competent action adventure game with light RPG tapping. There was a leak where it seemed like you can no longer control your party, Honestly, that seems like the best thing for current BioWare anyway. Kinda hoping this can give some kind of decent resolution to the Solas storyline, not expecting much more from this.

I rewatched GTA V and RDR2's reveal trailer and noticed they launched almost 2 years before the game came out. So we're looking at a late 2025 release then? And probably like a 2o26/2027 PC port launch. Man that's rough

I'm guessing that 15 seconds is the norm for Japanese commercials? Since that just seems way too short. In the US, around 30 seconds is the shortest commercials that you will see and some can go on for as long as 1 minute. I think that some use to be just 15 seconds years ago but overtime that changed. The only one that I can find that was 15 seconds was the 1996 M&Ms meet Santa Claus commercial.
TVCM are short, PV are long

here are the Steam PV for the release (one in EN one in JP)

some TVCM are actually longer, like this one for FGO

edit: 99.99% of their TVCM (mostly FGO) are short though.

This is very much a "me" problem. I've done so many benches on 7840U that I often assume people have already sat (or just completely skipped over) that I try to take some parts faster, especially if it's retreading old ground.

fwiw, I am working on a better way to benchmark handhelds and it's moving away from TDP in some manner, so I still have to re-do benches on pretty much every handheld to get a better idea.

You're absolutely correct. Straight numbers wise, 15w TDP at constant load is actually 100 mins (Edit: Actually I just did the math now and going from the vid it would have been 108.34 mins of battery life specifically). The 2 hours is to indicate generally as games should go into menus or other loading and TDP would drop and thus TSP would as well so there is "about 2hours" worst case scenario.

But you are technically correct. The best kind of correct. (or well correct enough :D)

I thought this wasn't so bad in context, given that you do refer to your earlier video multiple times.

Are you going to try and actually normalize over total battery drain? That's something I've always been curious to see. I guess one of the bigger challenges with that is that the per-scene variation might not be linear across devices. And you'd need to ensure that the screens are set to equivalent light output. And I guess the speakers to equivalent sound output, if we're really going to be picky about this, but I assume the power variance for that is negligible :p

Anyway, I'm interested in seeing where you go with that.

Yea, you have the right of it. I've been scripting it out on Windows and Linux and I've decided 250 nits is what I will target for brightness. Some things I need to validate still, ways to put SSDs into a low power mode so that it doesn't change anything in a weird manner and also accounting for 2s1p/3s1p/4s1p batteries.

There are things I'm working through in the background when I have time to test but I'm trying to come up with a universal-ish approach and hope to put it on github so others can test them "properly"

GTA 6 trailer leaked. 2025 release so 2026 on PC and 2027 on Steam. :smart-thinking-blob:

Looks really really good. That "Coming 2025" looks a little fake/shopped in tho but its all most likely real.

I wonder how far into Key West the map will go. It showed what looked like a bit of it. That engine would have to be pushed very heavily.

Really wish they put this on PC at release :(

The video got nuked and the account suspended so it's the real deal.

Looks like GTA. Not much gameplay. Cinematics look well crafted a la the better Cyberpunk story bits in animations and what not.

Don't give a fuck about GTAVI.

I can't believe there's still no sign of SMTV coming to Steam. This is so fucking frustrating.

I hope I manage to buy a Deck next year. I really want the damn thing. I doubt it though. Money is always tight no matter how much I try to save. Will probably need to sell a kidney. Who needs that shit anyway?

With the changes to Rockstar Social Club, they gonna try to skip Steam imo, so if it comes to Steam, will be 2027 or later.

They'll just do the same thing as they did with RDR2.

Epic and R* club exclusive for 1 month...then they put it on Steam. They aren't gonna neglect all the money/userbase of Steam for that long.

The real smart approach would be to put it as exclusive to R* social club at launch and turn their client to be the next Steam because they'll have their killer app like Valve had Half-Life 2. And they build off that for decades.

But these companies and publishers are too fucking stupid. They never think farther into the future than next earnings call.

That's why I think they gonna try, they gonna keep the game off Steam while it keeps selling on their new "Launcher/Store".

At least my PS5 can be used for something the next few years.

There is FF Rebirth next year and GTA 6 in 25.

It won't work for the same reason RDR2 and GTAV didn't. If its not day n date on PC...then by the time it comes to PC everyone who really wanted to play the game would have already played it on consoles. There would be more than 100 million PS5 and Xbox Series consoles in the market by 2025.

And they'll need the largest playerbase possible to push their online bs when its releases late on PC. There is no way they wait that long before putting it on Steam. They'd just be losing hundreds of millions of dollars.

The only way it works is if the game is day n date on PC in 2025. Maybe even a few months late at most to PC. That would actually push their client into its own massive success imo like battle.net back in the day and Epic + Fortnite.

The fact that it's a couple is actually peaking my interest.
Not enough games explore that dynamic, especially in a context like this.

Visually it looks insane, only GTAVI would have the budget for a big open world to look like this.

Rockstar Games®, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), is proud to announce that Grand Theft Auto VI is coming to PlayStation® 5 computer entertainment systems and Xbox Series X|S games and entertainment systems in 2025.

:crying-face:

The trailer already has 15 million views in 2 hours. This game is gonna do ok lol

Is Rockstar the only third-party developer that still using the 2006 model of consoles first then on PC?

With Level 5 announcing Inazuma Eleven for Steam the only other I can think about is Vanillaware, but that's mostly a case of "never on pc" than "late on pc"

lol at anyone who thought it'd be any different

they've done this shit for nearly 30 years
I'm baffled every time a company leaves millions of dollars on the table for no reason tbh. Expectation is one thing but disappointment is another.

I mean capcom does the same thing with monster hunter, and people end up buying it on multiple places to play with friends or to not miss out on hype or the experience/whatever

I think it's horribly stupid but I get it
